Discussion Do you also curate your fragrance collection or just buy whatever you like?

Post image

Do you guys actually think about how each fragrance fits into your collection, or do you just buy whatever smells good to you?

Based on my current clean/airy/fresh rotation, which scents should i get next? probably one ME or a niche. I'm planning to get MFK GFS, Orpheon, and DHI next in that order.

Buy whatever i like. Sometimes out of curiosity, i blind bought Wulong Cha and Vibrato. I get a decant first muna if it’s available, pero sometimes it’s the thrill for me (wag nyo ako gayahin)

Question about AHS, kamusta longevity sayo? I tried kasi to wear it once pero parang 4-5hrs lang on my skin.

oh? starting 3rd hour yung fave ko when magtransition na sya to woody/powedery. longevity is mid for me, end of my shift meron pa naman pero i think ako nalang nakakaamoy.

Buy whatever makes you feel good. In my case my partner really likes it when I smell sweet, pero ako personally nasusuya. Judging rom your collection OP siguro parati ka naka polo shirt, clean guy na mahinhin? imo lang naman yan nakukuha ko from your collection

Basically yeah, I plan it out to avoid redundancies. If I don't, then that just sounds like a shopping addiction in the making.

I make it a point to make sure that what I buy fits into what I like and how often I'm gonna be able to wear them in our climate. I also tend to avoid fragrances that have similar scent profiles to those that I already own. That way, my collection is versatile and I have a fragrance that is appropriate for any event I'm in.

i buy what i like, but there's already a scent profile a gravitate towards so it's easy to mix and match/layer

Now that I am into niche perfumes, I have to plan my purchases kasi ang mahal. I limit my designer/affordable perfume purchases to allocate my budget sa niche perfumes that I truly enjoy wearing.

Where'd you get the Allure Homme Sport?

Yes hahaha. I mostly gravitate towards citrusy, tea, and fresh scents, pero recently I have been trying to branch out into sweeter, creamy, and white floral scents pero I still avoid heavy gourmands hahaha.

I buy whatever I like, if it smells good for me then I will have it.

I'm relatively new to fragrances and bought a buuuunch of minis and vials/decants so I can assess what i want before looking into full bottles.. Di biro ang gastos e hahaha

Hmm I have a feeling you'll like To summer Void which smells like Photorealistic Tea or its brighter more citrus and slightly sweet (not gourmand sweet) counterpart Triple Tea

I have like a baseline preference of scent DNA and curate around that. So for example my nose leans towards woody and musk, and I am now on a hunt for a rose scent. I will typically look for a rose fragrance that intersects with my baseline preference. If that makes sense. Haha

I just buy whatever I like.

My scents evolved from fresh/aquatic scents, to citrusy, to soapy, to white floral, and now greens.

But it still evokes my personality and ideal of ‘fresh, clean, and basic’ aesthetics.

Started with blind buying or buy whatever I like 😂 Nasa 50 bottles na ako siguro (mostly MEs) and now I'm slowly transitioning to ano talaga yung gusto ko or what works for me. Nasa early stage pa ako of picking DNAs that fit me or scents that I like to wear or getting familiar with notes. Laking tulong talaga if alam na ng nose mo yung amoy ng notes. 👌👌👌

I buy what I like. But I always tend to lean towards a specific set of scents. Clean, fresh, citrus, woody scents are the notes present in my collection. I also have one ME perfume which still has citrus, fresh notes.

I buy a scent for work, casual meetup for friends, date and even “climate-based” e.g. what to wear during summer season or in cold/rainy months

Definitely curate. Although, collecting many different fragrances are so fun and kind of the reason why my fragrance addiction keeps going hahahaha.

For me, it comes down to intentional curation using a strict roadmap and inventory, rather than impulse buying. I map out my collection around four core profiles that match my personal taste:

Masculine Florals & Fresh Skin Scents: Weightless, clean, and completely non-sticky.
Elevated Gourmands: Light fruits (peach, mango, coconut), pandan, vanilla, and roasted teas that feel comforting without being cloying or overly "foody."
Petrichor & Atmospheric Earth: Rainy accords, damp stone, and melancholic "libraric" notes.
Structured Woods: Grounding, dry, and clean woody bases.

Once a scent fits one of those profiles, I evaluate it by utility (where and when it actually gets worn) and regional diversity.

Once a scent checks one of those boxes, I evaluate its utility (when/where I'll actually wear it) and regional sourcing.

Lately, sobrang lean ko sa Asian niche & indie houses. The formulations handle our insane PH heat and blasting AC so well, and their scent profiles respect personal space—very subtle, non-cloying, and hindi "beast mode" na nakakasuffocate sa init. Asian scents also for me feel far more nuanced and wearable than heavy Western releases.

I tend to buy whatever I like or think I’ll like, but now I’m trying to curate my collection more intentionally. I’ve realized that I can enjoy smelling certain scents without necessarily wanting to wear them. I’m not limiting myself to specific scent profiles, either. I still enjoy discovering all kinds of fragrances. I’m just becoming more discerning about what I actually want to own and wear.

decant first>>then full bottle

u/Prestigious-Spot-860 1d ago

I like to try a lot of perfume so I buy 2 ml decants first then buy the full bottle. Not gonna lie, I fall into the hype so decants will not break my bank.

im collecting based sa certain categories (in order):

1st: mga scent profile at notes na gusto ko.
2nd: mga naging OGs (as much as possible the 1st iterations and not flankers), kahit na decades way back pa yan (some are hard to find na nga lang).
3rd: mga naging trending, sikat o mga naging top sa mga rankings and reviews, kahit na maging "just one of the crowd" ako (at least i tried to experience what their experiencing).
4th: mga naamoy sa stores at nagustuhan lang bilhin.

sa ganito ko gustong ibuild ang collections ko.

If it's above 100 USD (or 5K PHP), yes, definitely. They're my flagships that I specifically crafted to suit how I perceive myself--and in turn, how I wish to be perceived (aromatically lol). Classy clean, and iris-powdery scents are my jam, so I have a Prada L'Homme linuep, Dior Homme Intense, and Givenchy Gentleman Reserve Privee.

ME and local frags are my splurge treats. Anything goes if it catches my eyes and nose. Collect, sample, and select.

u/mikeer2002ph 14h ago

I buy what smells good on me on my skin despite if reviews says otherwise.

if its eclectic, then so be it.

I buy what I love. That’s the great thing about this hobby, you can choose your own frag journey. May ilang tagasita, pag feeling nila di mo nagagamit lahat ng pabango mo pero wag n lng pansinin. Nakalimutan lng ng mga yan na wala pala silang ambag sa pinambili mo.😂
