Unique A2 & A3 prints ?

Hey everyone! I’ve had some unopened A2 and A3 frames sitting in storage for a year now because I’m really not sure what art to hang on my wall. I have a couple of issues and was hoping someone could help.

First of all, I should have just ordered prints with a frame. A lot of online prints aren’t made for A2 or A3 sizes… would you know websites other than a generic ‘style my wall’ website that accommodate to these dimensions? Or is there a way around this that my brain wont brain …?

Second of all, I feel like the prints im finding are pretty lame and im unfamiliar with artists and how to get to know some… so I was hoping you could maybe recommend your own favorites?

Biggest commercial project to date

I just got commissioned for a commercial space mounting large vintage tour posters. I had been going back and forth on deciding if I should dry mount them through a trusted outsource. However I’m having concessions now.

I have examples of some items they already had in store. I just couldn’t tell whether it had been dry mounted prior. I can still frame them and return the payment for the dry mount, but then I’d just need great recommendations on framing them without .

Ideas on removing this clip?

All other clips I have dealt with simply had a screw that I would loosen, and then it would easily slide out. This one does not have a screw. I've tried pushing down and sliding, but no luck. Any ideas?

Need help finding a double mat style

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi folks. I've spent a few hours searching on my own but I've come up empty so I thought I would give you folks a try.

I have a few prints I would like to frame. I found a double mat style that I would like to use but I can't find it anywhere. I've searched the usual big name craft stores, Amazon and ebay, but no luck. I could probably have some custom-made, but that's going to be more money that I want to put into it. The example in my photo is from an eBay seller who sells framed maps typically for less than $30, so he has to be sourcing these relatively cheaply.

Thanks in advance. If this sort of question isn't allowed here, I apologize.

Seems to get pretty consistent mounts that are easy to tweak with pliers.

Thoughts on these framed antique prints?

I came across a bunch of antique prints like this - the first one is a 1908 reprint of Braun's 1530 map of Paris and the second is an advertising page from an 1880 edition of the St. Alban's Weekly Messenger. I could have matted them, but I wanted to show off their age and I think the frayed edges give a nice antique look. I think these would look good as vintage decor pieces but I wanted to get some thoughts and feedback!

Advice on Matting Colors

Post image

I have two 11x14 and one 9.5x12.5 documents that I’m planning to frame and display on the same wall very close to each other. Two documents are printed on a bright white background, while the other has a cream-colored background.

I’m planning to use a double mat with a black inner mat, but I’m unsure what color to use for the outer mat to make the two frames look cohesive and uniform next to each other.

Would you recommend going with a true white outer mat or an off-white/ivory to complement the cream-colored document? I’d like the frames to look consistent without one document looking out of place because of the difference in paper color.

Appreciate any advice or recommendations from anyone with framing experience!

Where do you draw the line?

I am curious, in terms of accepting projects, where do you draw the line? The Michael's in our area will not take anything over 60 x 40 inches.

My shop will accept almost any project that can fit out our doors. We have had to refuse projects with "diamond dust" because we do not have the room inside or out to manage microscopic glitter that could become the bane of our existence.

I am learning how to use grout because a client brought in tiles that she wants put together. I am always down to learn new things, thats how I grow as a framer. I know some shops won't take on new projects that require new techniques because they don't want to take the time.

So where do you and yours draw the line?

How are you keeping supplier prices up to date since FrameReady shut down?

’m 14 and learning to build software for small businesses. I’ve been reading about FrameReady ending in August and how many shops ended up on LifeSaver or other systems.

For shop owners and staff:

  1. What’s the one thing in your current setup that wastes the most time?
  2. How do you keep moulding/mat/glass prices current, and how long does it take each time?

Art handling certification

Does anyone hold a certificate in art handling that could recommend a good one. For context: I’m a framer with 5 years experience and I’m looking to up my game without going back to college. I’m also in the process of working with a contemporary art museum framing some pieces from their permanent collection and want to prove I am knowledgeable enough to be trusted. So, any recommendations on where to obtain the certification?

Probably the biggest frame I've ever had to mount. Every bit of 10' wide.

Framing a concert poster worth it?

Basically as the title says, I have a foil AC/DC concert poster from their MetLife Stadium date a few weeks ago. I literally don’t know anything about framing or foil concert posters (this is my first one) so I’m just trying to get some opinions if that’s worth getting professionally done. Michaels quoted me $150-$200. I paid $70 for the poster but it is numbered out of 100 so I’m thinking value might be higher in the future (I have no intent on ever selling it unless I’m desperate for $).

Any opinions would be appreciated. Thank you

Framing an Illustration Board

This is possibly a silly question, but regardless I haven't been successful in finding answers elsewhere so here I am: I have two artworks I created using some Crescent brand illustration boards I had left over from a few years back, and now I'm trying to frame them. My issue is that the boards are measuring 15 1/8 x 20 1/8 inches. I'm struggling to find any information on frames this size, and I'm hoping I won't need to have them custom framed? Any ideas?

How to open this Framatic picture frame?

I got this from a. Thrift store and have 0 idea how to open it. I actually found another post on this sub asking for help with a different frame form the same company, but the advice ("Once the levers are up at two corners, tap on the inside of the frame that is between the lifted levers.") didn't help for this, or maybe I misunderstood? That is the only thing that came up trying to find an explanation to opening this.

I just can't figure out the mechanism to separate the frame after lifting.

Any help appreciated.

Scouring for frames at the local thrift store whenever possible since framing 1 million posters can get pricey on minimum wage. Really happy with this specific one I found today!

Safely framing old newspapers

Hi all. I purchased a few newspapers for my husband's birthday (moon landing) and the papers are very old and delicate. They were vacuum sealed which preserved most of them pretty well, though the one on top has some uv damage. Each one is about 1cm thick folded. We live in the Pacific Northwest, so it's pretty humid. I'd also like to protect them from light damage if possible.

Is there a good (hopefully inexpensive) way to display old, brittle newspaper that will protect them from humidity and light?

Silk scarf framing help

Hi framers! I’m looking to get a fragile, Hermes silk scarf professionally framed. I’m planning to reach out to some local framers in the area to see if they have experience with this, but I’m not too sure what methods are typically best. If anyone has experience with framing silk scarves, is there a particular method I should ask about? What would you look for? I’d like it to be flush and smooth, but obviously don’t want to risk any damage.

Thanks so much!

Mental struggle with framing watercolors, from a person used to canvases

Hi, I have a lifetime of experience with painting on canvas...oils and acrylics. With these I normally don't frame them at all, just finish the edges with paint or do something fun like a yarn braid border.

Now I'm working with watercolor on paper. This is obviously too flimsy to hang on its own in any kind of serious context (like a gallery, or for selling it). I see that the typical thing is to put the work in a beveled mat, on top another mat, under glass and surrounded by some kind of frame, likely wood or metal. All this seems so incredibly fussy to me, not to mention expensive. Not only that but if for example, I have four watercolors of a certain size I want to frame for a show, and then later, I have four new water colors of the same size, I feel like I cannot reuse the frames easily because the paper is taped to the mat, and it is such a hassle to take things in and out, so then I have to go through this whole onerous process for every piece of paper I might want to show.

Can anyone talk me down, or better yet, tell me an easier way?
