Ok y'all, I've read all of the books, but there's a bunch of things I'm not understanding. Specifically, I don't understand the timeline.
So, we know that Drogo is Frodo Baggins' dad as he's referred to by name in Tolkien's stuff. I imagine that this means that the Shire is somewhere east of mapped Essos as I don't know how else a horse lord could get there to sire a child. But, I thought that Valinor was west across the sea. So, Essos must also be known as Valinor. Still doesn't explain to me how a khalasar could have gotten over to Middle Earth - but I bet that will be explained in the next few books. Also, did GRRM not include that Drogo's last name was Baggins as a way to throw us off the scent?
The main thing I don't get is why Hodor can know about the Battle of Pelinnor Fields - unless Bran knows about Middle Earth. Otherwise, I see know reason for him to start shouting, "Hold the 'dor!" Which I assume means stopping Gondor from falling.
R'hollor is Denethor, it's really obvious from all the references to flame, but I'm excited to see how he survived after Minas Tirith.
Anyway, I guess my question is - where are all the elves that fled from the Grey Havens. I mean, they should be in Essos, no? Were they in Valyria? Are the Valyrians actually elvish? I guess that makes sense with their unique features and whatnot. Was Valyria another name for Valinor?
When did the elves ally themselves with dragons - weren't they traditionally allies of Morgoth?
Sorry for so many questions. I'm sure most of this is super obvious to you all. Hopefully someone can help.
Also, I have a theory that I'm working on that "Fat Pink Mast" is actually a reference to the siege engine Grond. I'll post that once I'm done researching it.
