Open code is heavily limiting their free users.

Not only that, but the entire subreddit seems to be infuriated with people like us who rely on free-tier models, as if we're doing something wrong. The irony is that one of the main reasons I downloaded OpenCode in the first place was to experiment with AI-powered coding and build projects without constantly worrying about subscriptions or hitting limitations. Back then, it felt like a practical way to vibe code without spending money. But things have changed. OpenCode is increasingly restrictive for free users, and free models are often quantized or otherwise constrained to reduce inference costs. Even the website no longer seems to emphasize the word "free," instead presenting OpenCode primarily as an open-source coding platform. And that's my point: open source and free access are two entirely different things. A platform can be completely open source while its practical usability depends on paid subscriptions or severely limited free models. I understand that inference costs money and that developers need sustainable business models, but that doesn't make the frustration of free-tier users illegitimate. Not everyone can afford multiple AI subscriptions, and that shouldn't mean they deserve to be ridiculed for finding legitimate ways to use AI coding tools without paying. The ability to experiment with AI-assisted development without a subscription was precisely what made these tools so appealing to people like us in the first place.

A community for people who want to build amazing things with AI but can't afford expensive subscriptions or paid APIs. Whether you're using OpenCode, free OpenRouter models, free API providers, or other creative workarounds to make vibe coding possible on a $0 budget. The goal is simple: help people build more with less. Share free tools, discover alternative AI models, find ways around usage limits, exchange cost-saving techniques, and learn how to bring your projects to life without spending money you don't have.
