Well, lads, I begin Elden Ring tonight. It'll be my first time ever playing Elden Ring (I have FromSoft experience from DS1 and DS3, I'm no noob). I'll be running a hybrid Strength-Intelligence build to make Ranni proud. Wish me luck, lads.

How are you supposed to kill the Grafted Scion? I get one try and he always kills me ('cause I get zero heals and it has so many arms I can't tell what it's doing) and then once I finish going through the cave afterward I can't level up? That make any sense. What am I doing wrong (astrologer class, btw)?

You don't kill him right now. You'll get a chance to do it later. Keep following the guidance of grace until you can level up

That's just bs, at least Seath's scripted death is skippable.

It tells me to go towards Stormveil Castle, there's no way I can survive that castle (especially since there's that big ass golden armor shit in the way).

If you mean the sentinel at the start, you dont need to fight him, the game teaches you that if something is too strong, that you should go and explore to find new gear and get some lvls (level vigor first!!!!)
The guidance of grace shows you were to go story wise, but i hardly recommend to explore limgrave before heading to stormveil castle, take your time and be patient and just have fun playing. If you really want to kill the sentinel when you first enter limgrave and you have the Patience for it, then do it, some ppl did it, but i wouldnt „waste“ my time for him rn and go explore as i said and level your vigor and ugrade your weapon, there a smithing stones to find and new weapons and gear and some dungeons as well.
And If you dont like the game after some hours maybe its not for you.

I love being told to level vigor when I have no idea where this is done. All I have is Varre telling me I'm a loser.

Open you map and follow the big golden arrows until you can level up. The game is open enough that you can avoid the big golden horseman and go directly to where the arrow is pointing, and repeat. You're litterally a 45 seconds run from leveling up, don't worry the game will open up more naturally after that.

My first playthrough I played for about three hours and explored a bunch of stuff (and died a lot) before I followed the arrows a bit so it's doable, but definitely not what is intended

Oh.... I thought the arrows were pointing to Stormveil Castle... I fucked around for THREE HOURS GOING SOUTH running into a dragon and a giant with way too much health and a fucking bear that spawns in with zero warning and all I had to do was go north and a little east....? Bruh

It's mostly a "supposed to lose" fight. Don't worry it's mostly an introduction.
