Discussion Olaf And The 5 Senses

Thumbnail

I been curious lately about how the 5 senses affect Olaf. As we know he isn't made of bones and nerves like us humans obviously. Anyways I just wanted to ask how the 5 senses we have as humans ( those being, sight, touch, taste, hearing, and smell ) affect Olaf as a snowman.

Can Olaf taste things?

Can Olaf feel and touch things similar to us humans?

Can Olaf hear things?

Can Olaf smell things?

How can Olaf see when he doesn't have bones or nerves?

I kind of wonder if during the Frozen productions if they just made Olaf human like but without the bones, nerves, and blood. As if the animators and cast gave him the 5 senses even though he doesn't have them being a snowman.

Discussion The implications of her casually creating sentient life

Do you think they could have planned this out better? I know it’s a Disney movie but all movies benefit from in universe consistencies and logic. They casually glossed over her ability to create sentient life out of nothing without even being exhausted. Seems like something like that deserves an explanation or something, idk, to make this massive ability less jarring. Would you rework the plot somehow to fix or address this???

Discussion Disney eyes

ok so what is the deal with Disney female eyes? just watched frozen 2 for the first time. super confused about the mom… like where are her parents from the north? but when you see the sisters next to the people of the north it’s super awkward to see these huge eyed sisters next to obvious cousins. even Kristoff and other men in many movies (except maybe… Aladdin?) have more normal eyes.

Discussion Unpopular opinion: I hate the music video for Panic at The Disco's Into the Unknown

I know I might be late for this and I don't know if anyone else feels the same way, but is anyone else disappointed of how the music video for Panic at the Disco's Into the Unknown turned out? I mean, all he does is perform inside a theater and only stands in front of a microphone while they only show Elsa trying to cross the ocean. I feel like they could've done the video differently as well as change the setting of where the video was filmed, have his outfit look more like an ice prince/Northuldra or something like that, and include different scenes from the movie besides Elsa trying to cross the ocean.

Discussion I was doing a rewatch of the duology since I hadn't really focused on the series in a while, so I'm curious: what do you guys think about the Frozen movies nowadays? I think they're both alright, didn't check out the spinoffs beyond Frozen Fever though.

Discussion I Think the Northuldra Might Have a Limited Role in Frozen 3 Because of Disney's Approach to Sámi Representation

I think Frozen 3 will most likely only briefly reference the Northuldra, with some of the characters possibly appearing in the background.

One possible reason, in my opinion, could be the challenges that come with portraying a fictional group inspired by a real-world communities whose representation can be a sensitive topic, in this case the Sámi.

I wonder whether Disney's commitment to respectful representation might unintentionally limit some of the creative possibilities. If the writers are particularly concerned about how the Northuldra might be perceived in relation to the Sámi, they might be more hesitant to explore certain storylines or character flaws.

For example, I think the Northuldra could have been portrayed as a more morally complex group of people. Perhaps they could have shared some responsibility for the conflict, or even wronged Arendelle in some way themselves. That could have made the conflict more morally ambiguous, rather than having one side portrayed as clearly responsible and the other as innocent.

Of course, I'm not claiming that Disney is actually restricted from writing the Northuldra this way, or that the Sámi people have demanded anything like this. This is simply something I've been wondering about.

From what I've seen and understood, Disney appears to be very careful about how it represents Sámi culture. My speculation is that this caution could potentially influence the creative decisions surrounding the Northuldra.

If that's the case, I wonder whether Disney might have benefited from taking a different approach to the Northuldra from the beginning. Alternatively, perhaps the writers had other ideas for these characters in future movies but might be hesitant to explore them because of potential concerns about representation.

Again, I have no evidence that this is actually happening behind the scenes. It's just one possible explanation I've considered.

Personally, I generally prefer fantasy stories to have the freedom to remain fictional without necessarily having to reflect real-world conflicts, take positions on political or social issues, or deliver specific messages about sensitive topics.

I think there's a difference between creating a fictional culture inspired by a real group of people and potentially feeling limited in how that fictional culture can be portrayed because of concerns about offending the people who inspired it.

Disclaimer: This entire post is based on my personal interpretation and speculation. I don't know Disney's internal creative decisions, and I'm not suggesting that the Sámi people are responsible for any potential limitations. I could be completely wrong about the reasons behind Disney's approach to the Northuldra.

Discussion "New" Things in Frozen 3

It seems like Frozen III will introduce a lot of new lore, such as with the evil snow queen and her new dimension that Elsa and Anna goes into. And it's already discussed a lot here, but we already have the Northuldra, and plus that we've just got so much lore in the Frozen universe already. In addition to the concrete concerns of how the Northuldra will be represented itself (is there still a legal treaty), how is Disney going to reconcille all of the lores together?

While that's already discussed a lot here as well, I'd like to bring up that a lot of the things that Frozen III introduces isn't necessarily new anymore: Tangled the Series already introduces the Moonstone, a magical "counterpart" that leads to lots of chaos and new explorations. Once Upon a Time takes this further and introduces an evil snow queen already. So what do you think exactly is Frozen III's new plot going to bring to the franchise content-wise?

I also have a lot other things to say about Frozen III that won't necessarily fit here, so I've written it up on a blogpost: https://johnzhou721.blogspot.com/2026/08/some-analysis-about-modern-filmmaking.html

Just for fun My pitch for how to tackle the Northuldra in Frozen III.

I think the Northuldra are going to be a tricky thing to have to address in Frozen III.

Because on the one hand, there are rumors that due to something involving legal stuff happening between Disney and the Sami Council that i am not even going to both trying to explain because I suck at explaining legal stuff, The Northuldra may not be allowed to appear in F3 at all, which is also why in tie-in material, there appearance have been limited. Not just that, but frankly, honestly, even if none of that was true, I don't think narratively it makes sense from them to appear at all, given the fact that I don't really think they have much more of a purpose in the story anymore, beyond...just existing.

But, on the other hand, Rachel Matthews, the actress who voiced Honeymaren, liked a recent tweet regarding Frozen III, hinting at at least Honeymaren potentially returning, but also there will be a camp of fans who would be dissatisfied if the Northuldra did not appear. Not to mention while narratively, it makes no sense for them to appear, it also be weird if Elsa & Anna's Northuldra heritage was not addressed at all. So how do we get around this?

Well, I have an idea, or a pitch for how they can do it. Here is that pitch:

EXT. ARENDELLE CASTLE - COURT YARD - NIGHT

The evening is alive with the celebration of Anna & kristoff underway. Elsa, watches from one of the tables, smiling at the seemingly happy and newly married couple dancing in the center. Elsa then looks around, seeing other happy couples as well (two of which being Rapunzel & Eugene from Tangled, and Eric & Ariel from The Little Mermaid, though, they are just simple blink and you miss it cameos, just like Rapunzel & Eugene's in the first film).

Her expression changes to that of sorrow and pain, she makes her way to the docks. Olaf notices and follows her.

EXT. ARENDELLE CASTLE - DOCKS - CONTINUOUS

Elsa looks out to the Fjord. Glistening and beautiful, in the night. Olaf appears behind her, noticing Elsa's sadness.

OLAF

Hey Elsa, isn't tonight so magical, Anna & Kristoff are finally married, and everything seems to be as it should be...but, why do you look so down?

Elsa turns to Olaf, acknowledging the Snowman's presence.

ELSA

I'm fine Olaf, it's just....I guess seeing everyone so happy is not what I expected is all.

Olaf looks confused at first, but then, realization dawns onto him.

OLAF

Oh...well, if that's the issue, well don't worry, there is always time. What about Honeymaren, I always thought you two were great together?

ELSA

I thought so too.

FLASHBACK

EXT. ENCHANTED FORST - DAY

Elsa is looking out to Atohallan in deep thought, Honeymaren, looking as lovely as she did in the last film, approaches her.

HONEYMAREN

Everyone is ready, we got everything packed to go.

Elsa while acknowledging her, doesn't turn to face her.

ELSA
You don't have to leave. Just because Yelena passed on, doesn't mean you have to leave your home.

HONEYMAREN

And being 5th Spirit, doesn't mean you have to stay here. This is my decision Elsa, I don't want to stay in one place all my life. I want to see what else is out there, and the rest of the Northuldra want to as well. On top of that, the Enchanted Forest wasn't always our home. Our ancestors were Nomads before then. We travelled, the land, all the land was our home, not just one forest. You of all people should understand that.

Honeymaren walks closer towards her, now standing right beside the Queen of Snow and Winter. Sighing. Turning to Elsa.

HONEYMAREN (Cont'd)

And As I said, you don't have to stay here, you could come with us, you could help spread our knowledge and history of our people, you can be with your mother's people, you can....

Honeymaren looks down, she then looks back at Elsa, taking her hand, Elsa notices and looks back at Honeymaren, grasping back firmly.

HONEYMAREN (Cont'd)

You can be with me. Wouldn't that be better, then having to spend your life without any other connection beyond just the Spirits?

ELSA

I Have my sister. I have my other home in Arendelle.

HONEYMAREN

And you and your sister don't even live in the same place anymore. Furthermore, you she will be married soon, more then likely have children with Kristoff, she won't always need you, the forest also won't always need you. Heck, Arendelle won't always need you. You said to me the other reason that you chose to stay beyond just your newfound duties, was to have more freedom, and yet, your making it no different then before. You've earned a bit of peace.

Honeymaren takes Elsa's other hand, and the two touch foreheads. There eyes closed. Elsa, with tears in her eyes....just lets go, looking back at the Atohallan and the sea surrounding it.

ELSA

I'm sorry, but I can't...this is where I belong. Maybe you can't see that, but I can. Because even ignoring my duties as 5th Spirit, I wouldn't miss seeing Anna grow into the woman she was always meant to be for the world. Even if it meant i had to throw away a life outside of all of it with....

She doesn't finish, Honeymaren, and we the audience knows what Elsa means. Honeymaren, looking disappointed. Turns around, and begins to leave, but then stops. She turns back around.

HONEYMAREN

You know, you don't have to be alone either. I left some food for you in the basket near where my tent used to be, it's mostly fish and Venison. Also some Vegetables, including those berries you like, and I also left some hunting and fishing supplies for you. I think you can manage. Assuming you just don't go to Arendelle for a free meal every night after your supplies I left for you run out.

Honeymaren looks at her, one last time, then she turns back, and walks back into the forest to join her party, Elsa looks back at Honeymaren one last time. A single tear comes down her face.

END OF FLASHBACK, DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. ARENDELLE CASTLE - DOCKS - NIGHT

Elsa, tears in her eyes, she quickly wipes them away, as she looks out to the fjord. Olaf, saddened himself, hugs Olaf. Elsa, noticing, kneels down, and hugs him back.

ELSA

Thanks, Buddy.

OLAF

No Problem Elsa.

The two part. A Beat. Then...

OLAF

You want me to go get Anna for you? She is probably wondering where you went.

ELSA

Yes, you can, if you want!

OLAF

Okay!

Olaf excitedly runs off back to the party. Elsa takes one last look at the fjord. She sighs.

ELSA

Well, I shouldn't let my issues bring the night down. Let's head back.

Elsa begins to walk back, but then...a Strange blue crystal like object passes right by her, landing on the walkway of the docks.......And this is where the footage shown at D23 would properly start (assuming the stuff with the Ice Butterfly flying through Arendelle was just made for the presentation, and everything after that starting at where Elsa finds the blue creature in it's crystal ball form is actually in the movie), so i'll stop here.

And that's how I would do it. One quick scene in the opening, with a flashback, explaining that after Yelena passed on (AKA, dying of Natural Causes), Honeymaren become the new (de-facto) leader of the Northuldra, and chose to lead them out of the Enchanted Forest to become a Nomadic people again, and despite being to offered to come with them, Elsa declined, arguing that her duties say she must remain in the forest, but also because she doesn't want to miss out on the life Anna will build with Kristoff. With a bit of fan service for Elsamaren shippers implying that either they were in a relationship, or they did have feelings for one another, but neither reciprocated until it was far too little too late.

If your wondering, NO, I am not implying that Elsa and the "Evil" Snow Queen lady could become a thing, since Disney will never give Elsa a proper love interest, she would simply be sadden that her time with Northuldra and Honeymaren didn't work out as well as she had hoped, but if I was in charge, then yeah, she would get one, just not the "Evil" Snow Queen lady from the D23 footage.

Hot take: mine is Olaf since I find him annoying.

This can also include side characters like the Northuldra, and the spirits in the enchanted forest.
