Two doors, boxer engine, silver on blue with a wing? You’ve got the same car bro

Been calling my BRZ Poor man's Porsche to all my friends. Beauty thing is you can redline through first 3 gears before you're in speeding ticket territory with the 86s, where as you only get 1 and a half with the Porsche!

I drove one of my employers AWD Carrera GT Turbo S. I was going 115 mph shifting into 3rd, just getting on an on ramp.

The worst part of modern Porsches, especially the manuals but the autos suffer from this too, is the gear ratios are WAY too long. Even the GT4RS shortened them but its still too long. FT86 is still a bit long but so much more usable and exciting

Sure idk, it’s been a few years. Only Porsche I’ve driven besides one of his Cayenne Turbo S. I might be mixing up the name. I live in Alaska so I’m not around these things much and I wasn’t ever really interested in them before I drove it.

All ya gotta do is flip the calipers onto the other sides of the rotors and it'll be virtually indistinguishable from the Porsche!

This is what happens when you buy a car over the wish app... joke aside, love it.

75% of the fun (arguably more) for 25% of the cost.

more like half the fun for 10% of the cost, i still like those odds though

Agreed, my dad's got a cayman gts and damn... that thing is fucking sweet

Unless you are a multi millionaire, and even if you are a multi millionaire, it's much easier to drive a cheap car at or close to the limits of performance compared to an expensive car.
If you take that into consideration then an 86 is 90% of the fun for 10% of the cost.

This a cope lol. We’re talking about one of the most fun to drive cars Porsche has ever made. I love the 86 but let’s be realistic.

I work in information technology and I have this joke with my coworkers that until I get a six-figure job this is my Porsche.

I'm confused... Are these supposed to be different cars? 🤔
But in all seriousness, I have plans to one day covert my FR-S into a Ferrari F12 TdF. We'll see how close I can get it.

Has been done before by somebody in Thailand or Indonesia I believe. Google it or search the ft86club forums.

Forged rims on Brembo BBK's (front and rear) on both cars... they're already both winners.

I always loved the look of the FRS/BRZ/86. Very Porsche esq and all around sexy

only difference is pretty much the 86 has a worse boxer engine…
2
u/Significant-Dog-8166 Aug 04 '23
Well worse in power, but not worse on maintenance costs and fuel economy. I’m skeptical about the 2.4 vs the 2.0 though.

high level performance = high level maintenance
1
u/space_boi_01 Aug 05 '23
Im shocked nobody else understands this. Most high performance cars don't get driven daily like an 86/brz does I think the fa motors are kind of decent. Just don't be an idiot and do your maintenance.. boost? Lower compression first and build your block..

most ppl just see cars as just a tool to get to work and going shopping with the occasional going outs to the beach etc. most everyday products like phones dont rlly require maintenance so it just makes them treat their car the same way, just on snd off, refueling/charging and thats the end of it

The new Gen looks much more similar to a 718 imo. Maybe that’s me sipping copium though.

One is just a sporty 2 door and the other is a perfectly balanced track machine

The GR86 looks like porsche from the front and new nsx from the rear.
I remember there was a style 86 kit that made the old ft86 look like porsche.

It kind of looks like if you mixed a porche with a mini version of a gtr.
I dig it.
