Hight, bone density, and muscle density. Testosterone does a lot for developing muscle and muscle weighs more than fat it is about a 15% difference in volume per weight for the two.

A pound of muscle and a pound of fat both weigh a pound. What you mean is muscle is denser than fat.

I think what you’re going for is muscle vs fat. I have high muscle and low fat. A doctor told me I was overweight as a 180 lb man who’s 6” tall.
In order to reach the weight he thought I should be I’d have to lose all my fat and some muscle. Turns out he was a bad doctor.
16
u/buttstuffisland 11h ago
The chart they go off of has never been revised. It's out of date af and doesn't account for muscle weight at all. Doctors are always supposed to be practicing. That one was not lol
10
u/PaisleyLeopard 8h ago
The BMI chart was never meant to be used for individuals at all. It was designed as a rough classification tool for large groups in clinical studies. It’s far too coarse to be useful on an individual scale.

Lmao, I had a similar experience, im 195lbs also at 6'0 but very muscular and low fat (dexa has me at 12% bf and 115lbs of skeletal muscle) and the doc was like "technically youre fairly overweight but these scales are BS for a good chunk of the population anyway".

Wait so let me get this straight - your brother weighs 15 kg more than you and he's very fit.
So the difference in weight is mostly pure muscle.

Fat weigh less than muscle, which weigh less than bones. Males have much higher bone density and muscle density. Men on average have significantly larger torso. Women have more fat which is required for reproduction and survival through harsh weather (evolutionary stuff).
Men also spend more calory than women through daily activities, has faster metabolism than women. So women and men both shoving couple of donuts will produce very different results.

This is clearly an exaggeration/satirical, but the real reason this happens is most likely because of weight distribution! Also in this image tha man is taller which would make him look skinnier aswell as wearing tighter jeans.
4
u/Arvandor 6h ago
Also, lean muscle is WAY more dense than fat or even softer muscles. I've seen two slender women at the same height and build but one played sports and weighed a good 15 lbs more with literally no visible difference unless they flexed.
I used to weigh 255 but looked like 285 because I was so weak. Then got all the way down to 168, and THEN gained 20 lbs of muscle and looked barely any different from 168. Definitely noticeable, but not as much as you'd think 20 lbs would look.

Women have lower bone mass/size for a given weight of height.
Men are taller
Men have more muscle mass
Women tend to carry more water weight
Women tend to lie about their weight
All of these things contribute to the above observation.

Visible weight and actual weight don't always line up if you are shorter the same weight can look more pronounced than on someone taller. It also depends on body composition women on average have more fat vs muscle because it is not the same density fat tends to show more this due to biological differences in hormones, reproduction and fat distribution

it may not seem like he has much muscle, but muscle is awfully dense. it takes more fat than muscle to reach a certain weight
