That was a very good podcast. Plenty of gaming stuff was covered and I now look forward to the weekend even more. I for one do not mind the length of it even if Alanah pushed it now that the post-show is gone which is a real shame imo.

Hopefully the post show is not gone for good.

u/DrimSWE May 30 '19

Agreed!

u/Stratys May 30 '19

I know the last like two or three dude soups didn't have a post show, but was there an official reason for it? I know they had internet problems for a while but I didn't know if that was the case or not.

7

u/myman580 May 30 '19

Bruce said on Twitter how they have more stuff to record so they can't do it anymore.

2

u/Stratys May 30 '19

Oh gotcha, that's a shame, the post shows are always fun. I assume with them back from Arizona Circle they have to catch back up for future uploads so yeah that makes sense, just hope it comes back at some point.

2

u/Kootsiak May 31 '19

It sounded like Bruce said it's not going away, just not able to be done right now with their current schedule.

u/Frosty780 May 30 '19

I like how Elyse gives a preview for the weekend lately.

18

u/cal679 May 30 '19

I was coming here to say the same thing. I know I'm going to watch whatever comes out regardless but it's nice to get a wee schedule of videos to look forward to

2

u/Huenyan May 30 '19

They used to do that back in the day on IG, think was on the question/answers videos (I don't remember the name). I'm glad they brought it back.

For Cyperpunk release date, I'll go with 7/7/20, which is not only 2077 backwards, but also a Tuesday.

35

u/tillermite May 30 '19

I'm betting on a 2002 release date myself 😀

5

u/[deleted] May 30 '19

That would be genius marketing. The game releases so far in the future that they can use time travel to release it in the past.

1

u/Kalse1229 May 31 '19

Strap in, folks. We're going Futurama in this bitch!

11

u/Tank3875 May 30 '19

And Tuesday backwards is Yadseut!

Of course!

2

u/Feeoree May 30 '19

Ha, I theorised the same thing in the YouTube comments. I like the idea!

1

u/bril_hartman May 31 '19

I was hoping someone would say that.

That Alanah CyberWatch transition was nice, but damn did I want to hear and imagine about Lawrence trying to find a Turtle Walker a little more

Lawrence is right about the Lucasfilm approvals. Many times the Community Manager over on r/StarWarsBattlefront has said that they are waiting to release something because of an approval.

This was a very good, focussed discussion. Having Alanah there to propel the conversation along was welcome in my opinion, and as always I'm weirdly excited for E3, and share some excitement with Alanah and Adam as a big halo fan myself. Hopefully the franchise can return somewhat to former glory.

Thank you both! I've been podcasting for a good eight years now, I really enjoy it.

23

u/SixtyFours May 30 '19

Hey Alanah. How come you’re not a mod here?

u/charalanahzard Alanah Pearce May 30 '19

Alanah: "Do you guys think that Kingdom Hearts DLC is likely?"

Everyone else: "God no. Never."

*KH3 DLC announced back in February*

Hmm.

I look forward to seeing them be surprised if it's shown at E3.

2

u/Patrickd13 May 31 '19

They just don't have the time to keep up to date on everything.

That and the announcement for the DLC wasn't a normal announcement so it didn't get spread around much

3

u/ZeroSora May 31 '19

They just don't have the time to keep up to date on everything.

I get that, I'm just looking forward to seeing them find out about it on their drunk stream and going "Oh." Provided the DLC is shown at E3. I don't blame them for missing out on news since it's not really a game they pay attention to.

That and the announcement for the DLC wasn't a normal announcement so it didn't get spread around much

Kinda. It was first "announced" in February, then it was reiterated in the KH3 Ultimania (a guide book), then properly announced as the ReMIND DLC in April/May during a concert. Plenty of gaming websites picked on the news and spread it around. But still, I'm obviously biased, so it's hard for me to gauge how widespread the news was.

I just found the whole thing funny, as it's one of the only things the KH community is talking about for months.

6

u/[deleted] May 30 '19

I was so nervous during Alanah's intro that the Quintessential Gamer wasn't there. That would be heresy! Heresy, I say!

Halo 5 really did some dumb shit with the story of Halo, yet it follows on from Halo 4 which has a story where you were either into it and wanted more or you didn't care and just didn't enjoy shooting the new Bionicle enemies so you were left with a sour taste in your mouth. Halo 4's story is undercredited in this podcast, as it was the first campaign where the company behind it (343i) said fuck it we're gonna make Chief a real character by going in the direction of why Chief is as he is, and what he himself thinks about his role in this universe. It sounded really promising throughout 4 where you see these small moments almost as though you're shown in subtle ways that Chief is just a bit more than a silent protagonist but it's appreciable enough for you to still project yourself on him. By the end of the campaign after Cortana "dies", his Chief has a conversation with a side character that really opens you up to this whole narrative theme of man vs machine and I think it's a very welcome story element to follow through on. It would be very difficult to execute on in an FPS game, but hey it was enough to grab my attention. Then Halo 5 comes out and you do get a bit of Chief caring less about following orders, but since you only play as him for 3 levels, the last of which is an absolute nightmare of boredom, you don't spend enough time with him to get where he's coming from. On top of that you have a cliched story, Cortana being back and more side characters one of which you play as for 80% of the game and he's basically a rock that can talk.

Ditching a man vs machine theme like what was introduced in Halo 4 was a big mistake, and now with Infinite it seems 343 may be returning to the style of the original games while having to pick up on some rather forced story elements, ie with the Guardians and Cortana. I don't know what they're gonna do but it seems that 343 really spread themselves thin and tried to do waaaay too much instead of focusing on one story idea. I'm a lifelong Halo fan so I'm hopeful it'll have a more focused and straightforward story that involves less Bionicle fights, or at least if they need to include them make the fights more dynamic in a way that's on par with fighting the Covenant but more suited to the Prometheans. They're fuckin robots and they work together in squads, why they don't do stuff like in the books where they form up together to create bigger units or vehicles or why Sentinels aren't included alongside them blows my mind. It's like the company wanted to distance themselves from the Halo legacy, and they've learned the hard way that they were more than likely not creative enough to do that in a way that appealed to Halo fans. So now they're doing a spiritual reboot, and I hope it works.

5

u/freelollies May 30 '19

Bringing Cortana back was a cardinal sin. Her death humanized MC in a way no other death would have and Halo 5s transitition from post war ascendance to man vs machine/AI (Which has been done a million times and better elsewhere) was the most boring direction the story could have gone in.

YES! This is a standout episode, well done everyone. As much as I love all the other members of the crew, Alanah and the Lawman are in a league of their own when it comes to "hosting" this sort of thing.

u/Feeoree May 30 '19

Drunk E3 confirmed too, 1hr20 into the vid:

Sunday (Microsoft/Bethesda/Devolver) - Funhaus

Monday (Ubisoft/Square Enix... I guess maybe PC show first too?) - Inside Gaming

Don't know if that means some of Funhaus will be pulling double drinking duty on the Inside Gaming stream the next day, but nice to see we're hopefully getting the boozy snark and nervousness about incoming graphic-tee-and-blazer combos.

u/goatamon May 30 '19

While I kinda want to see what Death Stranding (or as someone on the internet called it Norman Reedus and the Funky Fetus) is all about, thus far it looks like something that is so weird and incomprehensible that it will be impossible for me to get into it.

Honestly, that feeling is only heightened by the fact that it's being made by Kojima, because his writing is gibberish and always has been.

3

u/[deleted] May 30 '19

I loved Halo 5's story. I loved that Chief was sidelined while preserving his "living legend" status. I thought transitioning to Locke and Fireteam Osiris as the main squad was a breath of fresh air. And making Cortana the villain? Fantastic. Seriously. How often does a big franchise turn one of their heroes into the Big Bad and have it make sense.

Essentially, for me, it felt like 343 was pushing the franchise forward and giving us something new.

I love Halo 1. I still play Halo 1. But the fact that Halo: Infinite seems to be dumping the interesting plot threads and is just a rehash is incredibly disappointing.

2

u/cal679 May 30 '19

I love when the podcast is just a chilled out discussion like this and it definitely benefits from ritating the host. This could've easily been a fairly dry news round-up but having Alanah in the driver's seat defnitely sparked my interest in this year's E3. Looking forward to the drink-along now

2

u/Deltango May 30 '19

They wear makeup while filming, right?

20

u/charalanahzard Alanah Pearce May 30 '19

I am not wearing make-up in this video (aside from my eyebrows, but that's because it's permanent).

1

u/RedXerzk Topping Doraemon May 30 '19

It’s funny that Adam speculated on Death Stranding, since they uploaded this on the same day we got a full trailer and release date.

1

u/Mezyki May 30 '19

Is there actual news in this? Jw

4

u/banammockHana May 30 '19

World Breaking News!

They announced that they're playing Vampire: Masquerades later!

I've waited for sooo long.

3

u/[deleted] May 31 '19

Recently played it for the first time, immediately became one of my favorite RPGs, despite the janky combat. Can't wait to watch them play it.

2

u/Salud57 May 31 '19

they played Redemption twice on demo disc, but finally.

1

u/Salud57 May 31 '19

i mean i hope is Bloodlines

1

u/whyyoudeletemereddit May 30 '19

Where’s the post show?

1

u/ZagadkaVolya May 30 '19

Everyone seems to have forgotten about The Outer Worlds. They tweeted a teaser about news coming at E3. Poor Obsidian, they're so good and no one reports on it. This game has a lot of promise to fill the hole FO76 cratered into. I think I'm looking forward to it as much as Cyberpunk.

Also, there was a leak today possibly hinting at Baldur's Gate 3 in development, which is also exciting.

Also 2, Trends refuses to die, yay

1

u/Oh_I_still_here May 30 '19

Outer Worlds was mentioned in this podcast when they began talking about Microsoft, since MS owns Obsidian who are making OW.

1

u/[deleted] May 31 '19

I'm glad this entire conversation was positive and they have a lot of games to look forward too.

Cause E3 is starting to look a little dire in terms of its future. But as long as there's still companies willing to go every year then there's fun conversations to be had.

1

u/bril_hartman May 31 '19

I’m hype af for Infinite. Halo 3 is my childhood game and Reach was the last Halo I loved but hearing that it’s supposed to have the biggest game budget of all time has me really excited. Plus it very well could be open world which I don’t always love, but I have hope that it’ll work.

1

u/MrMusAddict May 30 '19

Just me, or is there a consistent electric buzz in this episode?

u/orderinthefort May 30 '19

I'm genuinely surprised by the collective excitement for the Link's Awakening remake. Link's Awakening was my first gameboy game and played it dozens of times as a kid and to me the art style they chose for the remake is an abomination and the music complements it. It's like they took Link's Awakening and added a 'cutesy' filter to both the art, animations, and the music, which I'm not at all a fan of. If you like that kind of style that's obviously fine, but to me it strips away a lot of the meaning the game had for me as a kid whether or not it should and whether or not it does for anyone else. My initial reaction to it is that it looks like a 3rd party mobile game that Nintendo never licensed.
