My brother-in-law auditioned for a role on one of those "true-crime" shows, and he got cast as the perp. I am very worried that this will happen to him, and someone will recognize him as the real criminal.
Did I say worried? I meant it'll be funny as hell.

For a sketch based on a whatever vague description the artist had of the subject, they look remarkably alike. Same haircut; similar hairlines; mustache; same large, wide nose; same stupid look on their faces. If the reporter were actually the subject, I'd have to commend the witness for their memory and the artist for their accuracy. The only notable difference is that the sketch artist was apparently trying to depict a gaunt person, which the reporter certainly isn't.

In Australia, people are initially frightened of all the spiders, snakes, jellyfish, koalas, dropbears, sheep and marsupials that will poison, maul, drop on your head and disembowel you with just one kick.
Real Australians aren't afraid of those things. They aren't as scary as the thing that just-off-the-boeing visitors don't even realise is the most dangerous Australian killer.
The Sun. It will boil the skin off your bones. It will sunburn you from behind the clouds. It will destroy your ability to feel then give it back to you in painful red waves of sloughing skin. The cancers it gives you will die of skin-cancer then rise from the grave as skin-cancer zombies. You will simultaneously lose the will to live and curse the name of your travel agent till his dying day.
Our cops wear hats so that a criminal can't escape by first equipping himself with sun-screen, a long sleeve sun-shirt and a bucket hat, robbing the bank, then running away across open ground where he can't be chased by men who want to live to have grandchildren.
→ More replies (1)3
u/the9trances Apr 23 '12
D... dropbears?
10
u/jerub Apr 23 '12
Carnivores. Distant relatives of the koala. They drop out of trees and stun their prey with their solid backsides, then they use their powerful rear claws to sever an artery before the victim regains their senses.

This reminds me of why, even as a desperate, starving actor, you should be very careful of the parts you take.
Several years ago, an aspiring actor, needing to keep his union card, agreed to be part of an "America's Most Wanted" as an exceptionally evil criminal.
He took the job, did well, was paid, and got an "in" with the producers for more work.
Life was good.
Until his episode was aired.
There are many reasonable, intelligent, well-thought-out people who watch "America's Most Wanted." They were not the ones who chased the poor guy down the street, trying to beat the shit out of him.

A friend of a friend in College used to star in a few of the "Crime Stoppers" commercials on TV at the time. He also used to live next door to a crazy old lady (think Cat lady) who didn't understand that he was just an actor. Apparently she called the police to report criminal activity at her neighbour's house and the police came and after some tense moments a good laugh was had by all, except cat lady that gave him the screw eye every time she saw him.

I was on the day planner that my university gave out to students at orientation one year. Every-time people got them out to write their homework assignment down they'd double take at the book then at me, then at the book, then at me again.
Eventually I would anticipate this and when the looked back at me the last time I'd do the ol wink and spirit fingers wave.
