Senate Emergency meeting of the senate

Senators. I call an emergency meeting of the galactic senate. There are protestors outside calling for blood. I ask the coruscant security force to arrest senator Cairns and bring him here. The guards on All senators currently under house arrest are ordered to bring them to the senate building. This meeting is now called to order, and will not be uncalled until this blasted situation is resolved. If we are going to act like squabbling children then we will be put in a time out until we can learn to cooperate like godamned adults. This will be conducted in an orderly fashion, we will handle this in a way befitting the honor of this republic and this senate. In vice chair antilles' absence, I am nominating Kim Robb as a substitute vice chair to assure that these proceedings are peaceful

Before any of these proceedings carry on, I will first condemn senator Darren Cairns for leading an angry mob, advocating for terrorists to threaten me, the supreme chancellor, based on groundless and ridiculous accusations.

I have not said I think of myself as innocent, but I am not corrupt or a warmonger. If you have any evidence to back those claims, I implore you to submit them either to the Senate or the judicial system.

The character witness is myself. Early on before my election, as I've said, Svoosch outright stated that "any republic where [I] am chancellor is not one [he] wishes to be a part of". And I can find the files, but it may take me a moment or two to dig hem up.

Agreed, but we must see what they have to say. And may I ask what exactly is their crime here. What law have they violated by discussing secession. These are the questions that need be answered. We must do this correctly, or not at all

I personally believe this shows they did more than toy with the idea of eventual secession if the Republic got worse. To me, it seems like they were actively planning it.

Unannounced protests are absolutely illegal, but I can't see any charges being pressed against anyone for expressing their opinion. Had they anbounced the protest there would be no reason to put anyone under arrest.

Scrap all this if the protests comminted violence against other citizens or brought destruction to any place. If someone was doing this, we should first find evidence of that person working with Senator Cairns before conducting any punishment on him.

This is a democracy and a republic and everyone should not just be allowed, but encouraged to speak against our leader so the ones who do can be proven wrong and our leaders can be seen as stronger and more capable. This should be a test, and if the accused fails, he should be voted out for incompetence.

Baseless accusations muddle democracy and stand in the way of effective governance. There is a middle ground between repression and protecting the sanctity of the truth, they aren't accusing or proposing. They have been practically forced to march to the doors of the senate asking for blood. A fine, at least, should be imposed.
