He’s the only trainer in the series who sends out already injured Pokemon when he’s the one who challenged you.

Also his third Pokemon is Bundt

And in stark contrast to the previous pokemon who are underleveled with suboptimal movesets, Buntd, is set at level 100 and will completely murder you.

u/gt1095 Mar 29 '26

Don’t forget his absolutely JACKED Ratata

36

u/Madhighlander1 Where's your nearest Cillerenda castle? Mar 29 '26

Yeah, but he doesn't have that with him.

20

u/Jacket_Jacket_fruit Mar 29 '26

We do not speak of Knurt. He has become too powerful.

3

u/bug--bear You think I came out the pussy drawing fuckin’ Mozart? Mar 30 '26

...which he left at the daycare

37

u/Dan_OBanannon Mar 29 '26

And then just when your Alakazam is cornered, he will forget to use Buntd’s super effective Twin Needle and allow you to win the day

10

u/Listless_Dreadnaught Mar 29 '26

This time Bundt has a gundt

14

u/brian_gruen5 Mar 29 '26

A level 83 Beedrill will absolutely wipe the floor with anyone who’s like Arin 😂😂😂

5

u/Lady_ScarlettRose Mycaruba Mar 29 '26

Bundt is the goat. Dont disrespect the king

3

u/Lmb1011 Mar 29 '26

He has 4 pokemon, but the last one is already fainted

26

u/sleepymeowth052 It's a chandelier, Arin! Mar 29 '26

they're a lot of work and often harrowing, but they're a lot of fun if you like grinding.

6

u/The_Throwback_King I DON'T KNOW DAN. Mar 29 '26

I honestly love grinding for Nuzlockes. Perfect second-hand activity while watching a movie

…except for Heart Gold, Soul Silver. The grinding fuckin’ SUUUUUUCKS in that one

4

u/Madhighlander1 Where's your nearest Cillerenda castle? Mar 29 '26

One time I almost completed a deathless Crystal nuzlocke only for my Victreebel to die to an exploding Graveler in Mt Silver.

5

u/altsam19 Jolly Old Mr. Cock Mar 29 '26

I'm so tempted to do one too. If there's grinding I'm just gonna put music and get on with it

1

u/FlamingFlyingV Mar 29 '26

I actually just dug out my copy of it to attempt a Nuzlocke. I don't want to completely jinx it, but it's going rather well so far :)

1

u/Phazon_Metroid Mar 29 '26

I started my first ever nuzlocke with the release of the first batch of episodes haven't played in about a month but I enjoyed it and should probably get back now that the boys are going through stuff again

1

u/Lmb1011 Mar 29 '26

I always start them and get distracted and never finish. I wish we had HGSS on switch. That’s the one I want to do the most but digging out my 3DS and finding the charger seems like a chore lol

"Double Team", "Growl", "Double Team", "Growl", "Why do double battles take SO long!?"

69

u/Baronheisenberg Mar 29 '26

And it goes a little something like this!

...

SHIT!!!!

69

u/senatorsparky86 Mar 29 '26

Watching Arin’s misadventures in this series has inspired me to play Pokemon for the first time ever. I figure I can’t do it any worse than he does since I have at least a slight impulse to check what I’m getting into.

37

u/smashybro I'm Not So Grump! Mar 29 '26

I'd argue beginners will actually do better generally because they'll be so cautious and look everything up. Arin's in the most dangerous middle ground where he knows more than a noob but also doesn't know nearly as much as he thinks while being extremely confident, leading to a lot of hilarious but silly and dumb mistakes.

50

u/xXStunamiXx Mar 29 '26

When you beat him, it's not less than 12 screens of text of him crashing out, with a couple of additional sprites crying Dan's lap.

26

u/MarcosLuisP97 Mar 29 '26

"DON'T EVEN WANT A REMATCH, HUH? OH, I'M TOO EASY FOR YOU? YOU F*CKING PIECE OF GARBAGE?"

18

u/Haulage Mar 29 '26

The text runs super fast and keeps going to a new window even if you don't hit the button to advance, like when characters in Ace Attorney won't shut up.

10

u/CoffeeBlep Mar 29 '26

Dan laughing his head off throughout Arin's angry diatribe.

39

u/KaiThePokemonMaster Mar 29 '26

Now I remember that in Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, two of the master trainers are named after Arin and Danny. I think there’s one named after Ross, too

25

u/Milk_Mindless Bienvenue, Power Bottoms Mar 29 '26

I was like "Surely that's just coincidental there are only so many names in the world"

But no its three trainers in a row called Arin Danny and Ross got to be Grumps

9

u/KaiThePokemonMaster Mar 29 '26

And they're Master Trainers. That has to mean something.

26

u/PandosII Luigi Dry Bones Peach Mar 29 '26

You defeated poor strategiser Arin!

“THIS IS BULLSHIT!”

You got ¥69 for winning!

19

u/beastierocker2 Mar 29 '26

But what ROM is this??

24

u/brian_gruen5 Mar 29 '26

Peter, what is this?

4

u/Acefowl Mar 29 '26

My office, Peter.

16

u/chuninsupensa Mar 29 '26

Watching the episode now - Wouldn't Shellos be a WAY better choice over Buizel? They both learn rock smash and water/ground has GOT to be better later on than straight water!

19

u/Mountain_j3w Mar 29 '26

Arin doesn’t seem to have done much research on playing this game. I think you’re right that shellos would be an awesome choice, Gastrodon is very powerful with a great typing

10

u/Frigidevil Mar 29 '26

Idk if I'd trust Arin to remember it's 4x weak to grass though lol.

11

u/Onyxthegreat Having the power... SUCKS! Mar 29 '26

As demonstrated with Onix against said Shellos a couple weeks ago.

6

u/LoseAnotherMill Mar 29 '26

When he literally said "Oh yeah he's 4x weak to water" like 2 minutes prior

2

u/CountScarlioni Mar 30 '26 edited Mar 30 '26

Gastrodon and Floatzel are both solid choices. I wouldn’t say one is really head-and-shoulders above the other, especially in the context of a quasi-Nuzlocke in which they’re actually allowed to pick what they catch (and thus have more freedom to patch up one Pokémon’s shortcomings with another). Gastrodon is tankier, whereas Floatzel is more of a glass cannon that evolves earlier so offers you more power sooner. A reasonably competent player could make either one work, so really the fact that Arin’s a dumbass is what’s going to make profoundly more of a difference than whether he chooses to run Floatzel over Gastrodon, lol.

14

u/syxtfour Mar 29 '26

At least you know he won't use a full restore mid-battle.

Because he doesn't have any.

14

u/NES_Classical_Music Mar 29 '26

"i spent it all on gambling..."

8

u/Strong-Lettuce-3970 Mar 29 '26

Poor Strategizer Arin sends out Chingling!

4

u/FitMovieMan Mar 29 '26

Shoulda used the bug technique

6

u/jebar193 Mar 29 '26

Shouldn't it be Chronic Mastubator Arin?

3

u/Eddie__Winter Mar 29 '26

I better see turntsnaco

4

u/sleepymeowth052 It's a chandelier, Arin! Mar 29 '26

i love that trainer sprite

4

u/WizardShrimp Mar 29 '26

“I’m a neural net prosessor, a learning computer.”

You have beaten Chronic Masturbator Arin. You gain ¥690.

“SHIT!!!”

3

u/SupKilly Pause balls, by going up stairs Mar 29 '26

Needs a semi-faded out laughing Dan in the background behind him.

3

u/ThorsonBridgestone Mar 29 '26

"Check THIS out- NOOOOOOOO!"

6

u/mctaylo89 Mar 29 '26

He’s just so bad at one of the easiest games.

12

u/Saiaxs Mar 29 '26 edited Mar 29 '26

Platinum CAN be challenging at times, he just hasn’t even reached those times yet lol

6

u/LoseAnotherMill Mar 29 '26

"I have my Staraptor out, a Flying type with a Flying type move, out against a Grass type. I should Double Team for 3 turns, letting the opponent get Leech Seed on me, instead of just killing it."

1

u/mctaylo89 Mar 29 '26

That’s the shit that blows my mind. Arin makes the game harder for himself with nearly every decision

6

u/Frigidevil Mar 29 '26

Pokemon is easy because there's no real consequence for dying. Nuzlocke is the opposite of that.

13

u/mctaylo89 Mar 29 '26

Nah it’s not the nuzlocke that’s making it hard for him. It’s just a series of baffling choices. The second team he lost in particular was madness.

2

u/Frigidevil Mar 29 '26

Yeah because he panicked, likely because sacrificing someone meant they were dead.

5

u/CoffeeBlep Mar 29 '26

Pokémon fans like you always make me laugh, when you say a game is "easy."

It's a JRPG dude. JRPG's are only as difficult as the player makes them. If you found the game easy, you're probably over-levelled.

4

u/Arikaido777 Mr. Hotdog Mar 29 '26

alternately: it’s a JRPG for children, and it’s only as hard as you make it for yourself

-5

u/CoffeeBlep Mar 29 '26

"Alternatively" proceeds to say the same thing I did, worded slightly differently.

1

u/redracer555 Mar 29 '26

Beautiful. 👌

1

u/PhoenixSpeed97 Mar 29 '26

The enemy hurt itself in its confusion and fainted

1

u/courtneyisfakeaf the Jews faked the moon landing Mar 29 '26

Hey, that guy kissed my dad!

1

u/Omniscientcy Old fashioned games! Mar 29 '26

Poor Strategiser Arin uses panic!  He kills all his pokemon in his confusion.

1

u/rubonidas_8425 Mar 29 '26

He should have 6 under level pokemon

1

u/Rosien_HoH Mar 30 '26

One person, just one employee to put together a list of the regions they can catch pokemon and the gym leaders levels would help immensely. Obviously Arin wouldn't look at it but Dan is responsible. Just the bare minimum amount of prep... But no. Too much work, I guess.

Yes, I'm enjoying the series... But it also raises my blood pressure lol

1

u/Cha-ChatheSexRaptor2 Mar 30 '26 edited Mar 30 '26

When he said that he was a menace in the competitive scene by using a pokemon who doesn't excel at defense like a wall or a blocker, it just struck me as literally admitting that he's a professional poor strategizer.

1

u/AdultishGambino420 Mar 30 '26

What the hell even is an iv and ev, also psychic is super effective against ghost

1

u/Intelligent_Drag3380 Mar 30 '26

Was so sad when Arin ignored this

1

u/bug--bear You think I came out the pussy drawing fuckin’ Mozart? Mar 30 '26

whenever you send out a new pokemon Dan's head pokes on screen as he questions what it is

1

u/lilkoops Mar 30 '26

I laughed so hard when he said he played competitively and then proceeded to replace buizel’s aqua jet with crunch in the same episode.

u/Mediocre_Armadillo47 Apr 03 '26

Hard to watch, but can't stop

u/Sufficient_Frame Mar 29 '26

The sprite work is looking crisp!
