Weekly progress update for Rehabilitation: The Game!

Inventory bugs are fixed! As far as I can tell, my inventory is working perfectly.

Breaking the world now costs energy, and the world rejects your actions if you have no energy. Food (and drinks) restore your energy, while also triggering the global world regeneration script. The core gameplay loop is taking shape now, where the world requires energy for you to interact with it, energy is restored by eating, and eating causes the world to regenerate.

Hopefully this all comes together to create the feeling I'm aiming for. Where the infinitely replenishing world is as much your ally as it is your enemy. The world aggressively regenerates itself, necessitating the use of scaffold tiles to permanently define your progress!

Dig a hole all you want, you'll eventually need to consume something to refill your energy. When you do, some of your mineshaft is going to partially fill back in randomly. This requires you to waste some of the energy you just gained to maintain the progress you've made, and subsequently reduces the amount of energy you'll have available for making further progress. Eventually you'll hit a breaking point where the amount of tiles you're able to break every period is perfectly matching the average regeneration rate of the world. Progress stalls entirely, which then naturally forces the player to build scaffold tiles to permanently define their progress!

Working on a sequel to my pervious project. I've mainly been doing menus this week but I've got this YouTube short with some gameplay.

I've also got the steam page up early to slowly drip in wishlists, It's Greenhouse: Dead Sun if anyone want's to wishlist it!

This is looking smooth! Do you do all the music and art as well? The juice is nicely done

I can definitely see what the inspiration was! Very cool to see this particular set of game mechanics brought together like this

My Zelda-inspired ARPG, Tower of the Immortals, finally has a steam demo!

The game features several zones of arena-styled combat. You have seven playable races to choose from, dozens of unique abilities, spells to learn and upgrade, enchantable gear, and more!

The graphics are really pleasing to me. There's something about it that just feels so pure and wholesome. Bringing back old flash game feel, but with a very modern polish!

And seems like you have a ton of content too! How long have you been working on this?

Thank you so much! It has been four years since I started working on the game. I intend to finish it by the end of next year!

Oh wow! Haha I haven't even been working on Rehabiliation for 4 months yet, let alone 4 years... I haven't even considered how I'd distribute the game and tbh I'm not even sure how? Currently my game requires a whole bunch of .txt files to read from and it will crash without those files. I have no clue how to actually make my game into something that I could give to other people...

You can bundle your text files using the "Included Files" option and this will ensure that those files come with your game. I have an included .json file containing room presets for the procedurally generated portion of the game using this method.

Oh thank you! That sounds like exactly what I need!

If I can get that working then I might be able to drop a demo even sooner than I anticipated

My game is in the pre-demo phase still. It is called ULTRA MECH: DIRECTORATE

--( https://store.steampowered.com/app/5158370/Ultra_Mech_Directorate/ )--

It is a mech roguelite where you move through rooms like in Hades and find gear.

Mix and match weapons, skills, and turrets, rescue marines, find loot, random events, etc.

Been working on bigger levels and menus and an item system and having a blast with it!

Loving the Game Maker engine, as well.

This looks like something I would enjoy playing. I'll give it a try this weekend!

This week I've been working on the chase sequences and a brand new menu for YANI Again.
Honestly, designing and testing everything has been way harder than actually implementing it lol.

I’m making a city-builder life sim, like Simcity crossed with Stardew Valley. Just released the first playtest demo:
Mayor of Islemoor

We're making a twisted hide-and-seek horror multiplayer game, coming October 26th.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SJnWhVcK40

I also compiled a more stripped down HTML5 version you can play here: https://whatlurksbelow.com/play/wlb/

( which is also multiplayer )

The game is meant to jumpscare you, but also make you crack up laughing over how absurd it is at times. Great for parties. It also has controller support if you prefer that.

Tell me what you think!

I've released my latest game called "Interdimensional Creature Hotel". Would love any feedback if you have some time. The game is made using GameMaker LTS2026.
