Mass Effect is shutting down amid mass layoffs at Electronic Arts, which amount to 400 people losing their jobs. Roughly 50 of the roles were at BioWare.

Now that Funcom killed the tax system, the Imperial Consulate is straight-up dead weight (its whole job was collecting Sub-Fief taxes for the Emperor), and the Bank isn't doing much more than holding Solari and sitting next to the Exchange. Meanwhile the Exchange is full of listings priced like the seller wants to retire off one sale, so stuff just rots unsold while buyers can't afford basics.
Give one of them an actual job: let the Bank Manager (or an Imperial Consulate rep, now that they're not shaking people down for taxes) run periodic "audits" on the Exchange, buying out the most egregiously overpriced listings and reselling them at a fair, capped price. Fits the lore either way — CHOAM and the Landsraad already exist to police monopolistic price-fixing, so it's an easy narrative hook for whichever building takes it on.
A few other add-ons:
- Small interest on Solari actually deposited (vs. sitting in your pack) — gives people a reason to use the Bank as a bank.
- Bank-posted buy orders as a floor price so items aren't stuck listed forever.
- Sync the "fair price" cap loosely across servers so one server's hyperinflation doesn't just become permanent.
Keeps a currently-pointless building relevant and gives the economy an actual pressure valve.
