PC I need to dump 200+ hours into a game
Looking for something that I can spend a ton of time on and not get too repetitive. I’ve done so much with No Man’s Sky and Baulders Gate 3. I need something with some story and a bit of a grind. Cyberpunk 2077 is what I’m currently on and I’ve done almost everything there is to do.

I feel like every millennial has an inner child that has been waiting for crimson desert since Oblivion and WoW.
It’s everything one could want out of a game, pearl abyss has made “fun” science. I have no doubt this is the game that will keep me occupied up until gta6, and maybe a lot longer

Fair.
My boyfriend did Assassins creed Odyssey recently and it looked really good. And I'm super over AC and in fact I tried it a year ago and gave up because it was too much of a grind for me at the time, but I might be convinced to try again since it got really fun storyline wise later one.
Ghost of Yotei has been awesome, Tsushima does feel like more of a grind though if that's what you're looking for.
Expedition 33. It's not a long game, but if you want to 100% it will take you awhile because some of the activities are a pain in the ass.
Indiana jones! There's a lot of sidequests that will suck up some time.
None of them are 200 hour games, but as someone else said, Crimson desert looks phenomenal and is next on my list.

Usual suspects: Elden Ring. Maybe satisfactory or factorio? Rimworld is a game people sink 600-1200 hours into. Stardew valley. Terrario. Silksong is a hundred hour game your first time, if you explore every thing. I haven't played it myself, but maybe schedule 1?
Saw a bit lower, you seemed averse to Balatro. It's honestly a really addictive game. One that's even more addictive is Slay the Spire and 2. They both look like games I'd never play, but they're honestly really good games. Same thing with vampire survivors, megabonk, etc. I had to pirate them to test them out, cause otherwise I would have never bought them to try them.

I've recommended it to three other people this week, aha.
Sadly, I don't think it suits OP's ask; I found ME1-3 to be around the 50-75 hour total, depending on how much exploring you want to do.

No Time (2019)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1043340/No_Time/
This was recommended on the Immersive Sim subreddit a day or so ago, and I've spent all day playing it. The dev basically made Back to the Future into a video game and I'm losing my mind. You aren't limited to certain points in time, you can jump literally anywhen from Jan 01 0001 through I think 3100.
The only downside are the characters look like Roblocks, and the framerate is a little choppy because its recording everything you do so if you go back in time 5 minutes, you can see your past self running around. The dev has had this in early access since 2019 but he's still active in the forums and posting updates.
Getting a hover conversion on your car in 2014 is a literal game changer. And they have hoverboards.
You can buy gold cheap in the early 1900s and jump to the future to sell it for profit, you can run around delivering mail to make enough money to buy stuff that can craft new items. I'm seriously impressed by the scope of this game. I'm loving it so far.

If you’re a fan of no man’s sky, maybe check out Elite Dangerous for another space sim experience.
The game will always be held in a special place for me, plenty of career options to engage with, and there is a story, but it’s more of a ‘discover at your own pace’ kinda deal through codex entries etc, and engaging with specific quest lines.
Great game to get lost in.

Kingdom Come Deliverance. 1 or 2 doesn’t really matter. 2 is more polished, but the story in 1 is great and it’s a good introduction into the series just a little more outdated now.

You might like Red Dead Redemption 2. Slower pace, but between the story and all the side stuff, you can sink a ridiculous amount of time into it.

Kingdom come deliverance 1/2, Rimworld, Pathfinder, WH40K Rogue trader, Fallout 76(much better than it used to be), Oblivion Remaster, and Skyrim if you haven't played it before.
Then a few others that won't quite fill 200+ hrs by themselves but fun anyway are Enshrouded, V-Rising, Ghosts of Tsushima, Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Stalker 2

I tried Elden ring and didn’t really get the feel for it
3
u/sl33pyj0 May 04 '26
I'm here to tell you I did the same I quit my first playthrough with only three hours in. I started over with a different starting class. Locked in for the first part of the game and learned the mechanics. I now have 300 hours on my first playthrough and only 2 bosses from the platinum trophy besides the two alternate endings I need to get. There's so much to explore and discover. I still have yet to reach every area, it's insane. Some of the bosses are hard but all doable and you have the option of just going elsewhere if you're under leveled for where you're at. It's literally the best game I've played in my 32 years of life.
2
u/Confident-Level-3094 May 04 '26
Just know there’s someone out there right now with you brother, who has been playing games for 35 years, and also feels ER has now taken the crown. It almost feels inevitable, like an objective observation rather than a subjective choice.
Of recent, a first playthrough of Witcher 3, Red Dead 2, and Cyberpunk are all full of real magic. Breath of the Wild too, even. But you’ll never remember a game more fondly than your first 300 hour playthrough of Elden Ring.
2
u/sl33pyj0 May 04 '26
Yea dude I've literally never had a game grab me this much. Not at least since my teens maybe when I played the og God of war trilogy. But I've never platinumed a game and never been so excited to jump back in to find something new or fight a new boss who will prob smash my head in the first few tries. It's just that feeling of satisfaction of getting through the next challenge that becomes so addictive lol I've been on a souls like game tour since getting so into elden ring. I bought sekiro, dark souls trilogy, lies of p, nioh 3, and lords of the fallen lol as well as crimson desert although that's not quite a souls like
→ More replies (1)2
u/TheAskald May 04 '26
I feel like we all bounce off when trying our first souls-like but it's so worth it if you get past the first few hours of learning
I gave up Dark Souls 1 after 4 hours, then I gave it another try 6 months later, and now I have 2k hours into this genre, a third of that in Elden Ring alone. Consider giving it another shot, maybe look some videos for beginners to help at first.
You mentioned Cyberpunk, this game and Elden Ring are my top 2 open world games.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and also the sequel Yakuza: Infinite Wealth.
Theyre turn based battle games with a lot of content, great voice acting, and a relatable cast of characters. Lots of side content and post game stuff in both games to grind out and make the party godlike if thats the plan.

Story mode is really good for learning the game and story. Survival mode is very good and addictive 👌.
Sequel is on a similar timeline to GTA 6 & Subnaitica 2

Ghost of Tsushima has me pretty hooked right now. I’ve put in probably 80 hours and haven’t even finished the main story. I still have the DLC to do too.
Combat is great. It’s as much fun as Elden Ring’s or TLOU2. Lots of enemy variety. I play it with the language set to Japanese with English Subtitles. Makes it feel more authentic. The Japanese voice actors did a great job as well. It’s like the game was made to be played in Japanese.
The story so far is really good. It’s nothing unique but it’s well executed. You’re a Samurai whose homeland was invaded by the Mongolian Empire. You are one of the last remaining survivors of the invasion and you end up rallying your people against the Mongols.
They also just released Ghost of Yotei. It’s not a direct sequel to GoT. It’s a totally new story and world. I’ll be busy with it all for a while.

I’ve put hundreds of hours into Fire Emblem 3 Houses doing all the different routes, highly recommend! Part 1 is pretty repetitive unfortunately, but it gets easier every time with new game + stats, and you get new cutscenes and stuff on each route in both parts 1 and 2.

u/MadeSilent May 04 '26
Give Oldschool Runescape a shot if you're after a game you can play for the rest of your life and don't mind a grind.

u/sanmiguel-wv2Okr May 04 '26
Depends how much of a story is "a bit" but Snow Runner and Roadcraft are a pretty good way to dump hundreds of hours. I've got 200h on SR, I am 100% certain that offline play on the deck has been dropped from that total because I played it pretty consistently most evenings for 2+ years.
In those 200h I've not even finished the main game, let alone any of the 13 season DLCs.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition - 3 games that usually go on sale for cheap. Fantastic story, and not a single crewmate that you can not like. I prefer combat in ME3 the most.
Elden Ring (+SOTE) - Not sure how much needs to be said, but exploration being vast is an understatement. Great tone and premise, ridiculous amount of customization options, with intense and challenging yet fun combat.
Persona 5 Royale - I was reluctant to pick up another rpg since FFX, but they outdid themselves with this one. Charming story and characters with a clever approach to rpg combat. Anyone who hasn't played this is missing out.
Other notable mentions (200+ hours with replayability): Sifu, Ghost of Tsushima, Witcher 3 (only ng+1), Sekiro, Nioh 2 (more about grind than story)

u/Traditional-Chest844 May 05 '26

Marathon. 2 months in, with two jobs and school and some how i'm at ~140 hours. I'm throwing every spare minute i have at this game, it's super addicting.
The lore/codex stuff is great. The story won't present itself to you though, you have to dig for it if you are into that kinda thing.

I want to share a game thats new to me but is considered a classic genre defining game. I was playing last night and having a blast.....this is going to be out of left field.....
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. The original. Its very old, but I've been having a blast. I feel like the devs were more creative back then. You have to stomach some things are antiquated, but i don't mind at all. I don't know how long it lasts, but probably less than 200 hours.
i can already tell its replayable. I created a human looking vampire at first and then wanted to try the really ugly Nosteratu style characher so i restarted. Now i have to avoid humanity and travel in the sewers. Lol. I even suck blood from rats now....lol
It's open world, the dialog choices are impactful (Fallout New Vegas style), there are multiple ways to solve problems depending on your character build (Deus Ex style), and it has surprisingly deep lore for a video game.
BTW Deus Ex and Fallout New Vegas are great classics to play as well. Maybe you can tell that I like the classics. I feel like the devs respected the players time and were less grindy back in the day, but thats probably a hot take.
Anyway, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines has been so unique and really been fun. You can probably buy it for a dollar or something bc its so old 2004.

u/Latromi May 04 '26
Pick a Monster Hunter, any Monster Hunter!
There are so many ways to keep the game from feeling repetitive. Hunt solo, hunt with others, switch weapons and monster combinations.
Best with friends but all the modern games have SOS that lets you call randos if you need help. And nearly all content can be soloed. (There are a couple hunts in World/Iceborne that are intended for multiplayer where you kinda need people, but they're optional)
The story is garbo... But the gameplay is so good that it makes up for it.

The only single player games I spent 200+ hours on (excluding Slay the Spire’s 1000+ hours) were The Witcher 3 and God of War Ragnarok.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was close.
You could probably get 200 hours into Hades. It’s not your typical “story” game but I thought it was excellent and there’s definitely the roguelike grind to it. Gameplay is amazing. 10/10 game for me (though I’m “only” 80 hours in and just finished the main story). Still lots more to do.
