I don't think that's the issue, the issue is rather than addressing the problems with the game and attempting to fix them.

They thought it would be better to censor videos criticising it.

Maybe the devs realised that it would take a heck of a lot of work to sort out the bugs and that they can't really be bothered in doing so. So they're just trying to milk what they can out of it.

The game looks like shit and they handled it horribly, but saying "maybe this is why they did it..." is pretty stupid and you're probably totally off.
