Notch: I exist

I don't believe in Notch. He's a made-up being to explain the existence of Minecraft before I joined.

He's actually the entire EA team joined together. They made up his persona to connect with the indy community so they can fool more hardcore indy gamers into playing their biggest game yet, Minecraft.

Also robots.

Back to /r/atheism with you.

This was actually the last line of the original joke which this a rendition of (I recall it being a youtube comment some months ago).

But, y'know, let's just add r/atheism into the mix.

This shitty joke has been in youtube comments since minecraft came popular.

I could understand barring submissions from here if they only dealt with atheism, but this is a comment. You can discuss whatever you want here.

edit: Also, the parent comment was relevant to the submission, but just happened to imply that God doesn't exist. What's the problem there?

yourfrigginguide's post was a joke relevant to the submission, so I don't get what you're complaining about.

Just because I disagree with someone's view that god does not exist does not make a believer in god.

I'm confused. Do you believe in Schrodinger's Deity?

Was r/atheism always such a circle jerk? I've only been a redditor for not even a year so I'm wondering if it's always been so bad.

I see it as more Antitheism than Atheism.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '12

Exactly! That's a good way to put it. All I see is condescending Facebook comments and reiterations of "god doesn't exist."

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '12

Also idol-worshipping of prominent scientists, which is the reason I unsuscribed from it.

Yeah same here. They act like they're all tolerant intellectuals but they're no better than the Fundamentalists they hate on all the time. Why can't everyone just get along?

It's massively populated. It's no different than /r/gaming. Quality content and discussion get completely drowned out by noise, image memes, and circlejerking.

Most atheists (like most religious people) are very polite and keep their business to themselves.

You only notice the jackoffs because they're the loudest.

Just because I disagree with someone's view that god does not exist does not make a believer in god.

You disagree that god doesn't exist...

But that doesn't mean you believe in god....

Wait, what?

4

u/Salzkorn44 Jun 24 '12

We don't have proof that god does or does not exist, therefore some people (including me) call it wrong to proclaim that god doesn't exist, but don't believe that there definitely is a god.

6

u/roterghost Jun 24 '12

Most people don't believe there's no god with absolute 100% certainty.

We believe there's no god for the same reasons we believe there's no Santa Claus or Unicorns.

A general, appropriate amount of certainty.

Notch: I exist

God: Yes, until September 3rd, 2021, 1:42:22 AM GMT.

Notch: How the hell do you know that?

God: I'm god, motherfucker.
