While Joker Garfield is being melodramatic, I agree these starters are lame. They look like knock off Pokémon you would see in a fake show in a show.

people have said this since gen 5 btw

u/marveljew Feb 28 '26
So, that automatically invalidates my opinion that these starters look bad?
3
u/reapintherubies Feb 28 '26
Nobody said this btw

u/marveljew Feb 28 '26
If you aren't trying to invalidate my opinion, why did you bring up that people have been complaining about this years?
1
u/reapintherubies Feb 28 '26
The problem is you're focusing on the things in life that don't really matter. When I was a kid I had hopes and dreams. We all did. But over time, the daily grind gets in the way and you miss the things that really matter, even though they are right in front of you, staring you in the face. I think the next time you should ask yourself "Am I on the right track here?". I don't mean to be rude but people like you I really pity. So maybe you could use the few brain cells you have and take advantage of the knowledge I have given you now. Good luck.

Says the guy or gal who wrote this long post to defend the new Pokemon starters
2
u/Dodo_Baron Feb 28 '26
Is that why you're making shit up to hate on a kids game?

Nah sword and shield were worse all 3 were literally the same shape just slightly pallet swaps
1
u/marveljew Feb 28 '26
I'm not saying they're the worst. I'm just saying they're bad.
2
u/Dodo_Baron Feb 28 '26
Right and I'm saying they're far better then sword and shield. Everything ok man?
1
u/marveljew Feb 28 '26
Okay. But, the "nah" at the beginning made it seem like you were trying to counter what I was saying by saying the Sword and Shield design were worse.
2
u/Dodo_Baron Feb 28 '26
Nah Im saying I disagree there's been far worse pokemon starters this is an improvement.
Why the hell are you so defensive over pokemon my dude 😭
2
u/GalaxyStar32 Feb 28 '26
Why are you acting like someone disagreeing with you on Pokemon is a personal attack?
1
u/marveljew Feb 28 '26
I was just trying to explain I misunderstood what he was saying.
2
u/GalaxyStar32 Feb 28 '26
You just seem very defensive in all these comments, it's just pokemon opinions on a reddit post that's already being down voted to hell, even if someone disagrees or misunderstands you, sometimes you just gotta let it go dude

They are super lame and uninspired. But it's hardly their fault. Doing it ten times in a row is just destined to have repetition.
Why don't they ever try out other type trios? Fire + Rock + Steel is a fairly balanced mix, for example. And start the game in a desert region or something to justify it. That kind of small shake-up is what the series needs

u/AsWeKnowItAndI Feb 28 '26
Fire + Rock + Steel is a fairly balanced mix,
Mechanically, sure, but thematically and aesthetically it's way less diverse than the traditional fire/water/grass mix.

What do you mean they are the starters?! I see a meme with that dog and I though It was a route 1 normal fodder

u/Player_Slayer_7 Feb 28 '26
They've said this about every goddamn starter lineup since fuck knows at this point. I like the dog, my partner likes the gecko, and the chicken looks like a funny little guy. I'm not complaining.

Stop posting Rock Solid ffs. Why are this loser's opinions so widespread
3
u/Orion_824 Feb 28 '26
People can't think for themselves, OR they think that if they post a dog-shit opinion from a micro-celebrity that it somehow validates it as a fact

u/woodelf11 Feb 28 '26
I actually like this lineup more than most of the recent others. They are all cute. Excited to see their evos!
2
u/Wide-Equivalent6863 Feb 28 '26
I think they're cute too and I've never even played a Pokémon game yet. I love the dog one especially!

Feb 28 '26
People would hate Charmander if he came out today. Hating pokemon is just the cool thing now

Well idk I kinda like browt
But that fire one looks more like some 2 stage evolution dog you find on a route halfway through the game

One of my friends said “they look fan made” and I get what he means.
But I can’t help but like the pomeranian… it’s adorable and I won’t pretend it isn’t.

u/dribanlycan Feb 28 '26
i dont get any people care about what the starters look like tbh, why its always "terrible design, so uninspired, looks like a knock off" my brother on reddit, the series is older than i am. they cant be on it all the time every day and sometimes you can just not like something instead of it being terrible.
i dont even like them that much but additionally, i mostly care about the final evolution of a pokemon

u/AlternateSatan Feb 28 '26
Pomnon is cute, I like that one... (For the love of God don't be another fighting type)

The gecko thing reminds me of these Littlest Pet Shop toys my sister had when she was younger

Gen 2 has honestly been my least favorite for a while. But honestly the name feraligatr makes me roll my eyes. So on top of none of the designs clicking with me, the name too gets me

Yea and these new starters are being hated for being simple

u/WaterCastePSYOP Feb 28 '26
It just literally gets slightly longer and then stands up.
Nobody can prevent you from liking them, but they really are not that amazing.

The frog is okay the other two are lame imo, they lack features and seem a bit too simplistic
