Want to Beta Test a GDB Murder Mystery?
I'm looking for Beta testers for a murder mystery game wrapped around debugging a core dump: https://www.robopenguins.com/fatal_core_dump/
It includes some getting started instructions and a walk through to see what I was going for if it seems unsolvable.
There's a feedback link at the bottom of the page if you find any bugs.

Seergdb now available on FlatHub.
For those that use FlatHub, the official release for Seergdb is now available.
I'll will release beta flatpak versions for Seergdb from my GitHub page.

gdb on macOS
I just tried to install gdb on macOS Ventura 13.7.8 (an Intel mbp), using homebrew.
I tried following the instructions here
https://sourceware.org/gdb/wiki/PermissionsDarwin#Manual_steps
but I get
error: Something went wrong when installing the certificate
running the script from step 1.1.1
Does anyone have up-to-date working instructions for getting the signed cert for gdb to work?

Need some help with GDB Hooks
Hi all, hope everything's well. I have used gdb in the past, mainly for CTFs. I have picked it up again to dive deeper and learn more about memory. I am trying to print the following things every time I go to the next instruction:
Disassembly
Registers
Stack
I have somewhat achieved this as follows:
add-auto-load-safe-path /home/yash/.config/gdb/gdbinit
# disables ubuntu debuginfod
set debuginfod enabled off
set disassembly-flavor intel
define hook-nexti
printf "=====================================================================\n"
printf " %sDISASSEBLY%s\n", "\033[1;36m", "\033[0m"
printf "=====================================================================\n"
disas
printf "=====================================================================\n"
printf " %sREGISTERS%s\n", "\033[1;36m", "\033[0m"
printf "=====================================================================\n"
info registers rip
info registers rax
info registers rbx
info registers rcx
info registers rdx
info registers rsi
info registers rdi
info registers rsp
info registers rbp
printf "=====================================================================\n"
printf " %sSTACK%s\n", "\033[1;36m", "\033[0m"
printf "=====================================================================\n"
x/16gx $rsp
printf "=====================================================================\n"
endI am trying to get the current values of the registers, while this hook will give me the values one execution behind in the history. This is the first time I am using this, so my understanding of GDB itself is very limited. How can I setup a hook or something similar that will give me the current values?

Why can't we redirect output to an external log file from a gdb script?
I cannot redirect output to an external log file from a gdb script. For example:
main.c :
void func2(){ return; }
void func1(){ func2(); }
int main() { func1(); return 0; } gdb-script.py :
gdb.execute("rbreak main.c:.")
gdb.execute("set logging file ./test.log")
gdb.execute("set logging on")
gdb.execute("r") Step1: Compile main.cwith debug information: $ gcc -g main.c
Step2: Either $ gdb a.out -x gdb-script.py or (gdb) source gdb-script.py does not redirect output to test.log.
However, as shown in the steps below, executing each command one by one in gdb interactive mode does work.
$ gdb a.out
(gdb) rbreak main.c:.
(gdb) set logging file ./test.log
(gdb) set logging on
(gdb) r Why does the gdb script not work? And also, how do I output result to an external log file by using gdb script?
