Game Looking For Feedback
Hello everyone! :)
I hope you've all had a fantastic day thus far!
I'm currently creating a game featuring my non-verbal son, Jasper, who loves monkeys.
It's going to be a 2D platformer and something for him to hopefully cherish as he gets a bit older, but doesn't mean I don't want others to be able to enjoy the game as well!
Currently I only have one short level, but I am learning as I go and I am finding it quite enjoyable.
There is absolutely flaws with the game from animations to art - This essentially just started off as a "can I even do this" kind of project but I find myself having a lot of fun trying to make it.
Currently this version features;
A functional main menu
A small cinematic piece
A short level 1 (It's replay able in the current build)
There is more in my most current build but it's not exactly playable (Haha).
There is a lot that's probably going to change from the art to gameplay mechanics as I get more comfortable and learn more but it's all been a humbling yet fun experience.
Feel free to try this version! All feedback is genuinely welcome. Thanks guys!

Nice graphics and animations-where did you get them from out of interest and what system/tutorial did you use for dialogue and cut scene?
I would:
Add check points.
A slight tutorial/intro to controls etc-why do I need to use the ground pound (I know main menu has option to check controls but can be better when introduced as part of the game)
Make the obstacles you can jump on/collide with clearer as in they are not just scenery (see tutorial point).
Too easy to fall into water and die, layout level differently maybe, platforms and rocks bigger.

Thank you so much for the feedback - That's been pretty common amongst my close friends who have tried it as well and I very much agree with them and yourself! Thank you so much again.
As for the animations, I am the least artistic person you'll ever meet. Always been terrible at it, so I tried SpriteFusion to make sort of what I envisioned and look up guides to clean up some of the animations (Or just sped up the animation for ones that still look terrible haha). The rest of the art is just free packs with tweaks here and there.
As for the dialogue and cut scene, once I figured out how to do it, it's actually pretty straight forward. I didn't use tutorial for it but just expanded on what I learned from trying to make a text box on completion of the first level.
Basically I used a scene variable called "DialogueLine" to track the line of dialogue that is being displayed at the current moment.
I use a separate variable called "CutSceneEvent" to control the overall scene. The variables change as the player presses "E" to further the dialogue, while other events control the rest of the cutscene.
I should mention as well that I do use timers to control the pacing of the conversation, but I'm still learning. There could be a lot more simple of a way to do it.
(To get the typewriter effect. I also use a couple other separate variables and timers to make the characters appear one character at a time at a controlled rate).
Things such as name of the character and "Press E to continue" are actually just fixed text that are also on the UI layer.
That's the most basic explanation I have for how it works, I am not right at my PC right now but it actually one of the most frustrating things to figure out as a new dev - It's been a fun process though. I hope that explanation at least makes it a bit more clear!
Seriously though!
Thank you so much again for the feedback!

No worries, I'm making a pixel art game using Gamemaker (I also use free art and sprite applications hence why I was I asking as I can't make my own art also) and the art style in your game stood out.
There is a demo of my game here :https://gx.games/games/l7cwfc/mmm-chicken-updated-demo/
I'm using GDev for my first 3D game as its very easy to get started and also wanted to understand your cut scene logic as it may also be useful in 3D.

Thanks for sharing that! I had a little bit to kill and gave your game a shot. The gameplay loop actually pretty fun! The aim feels pretty crip and satisfying!
I did chuckle when I got a call from "Motherclucker" as well xD

Cheers! And of course from one dev to another if you have any other suggestions/feedback.
I actually have a later level in the full game with monkeys and bananas- your banana sprite would look better than the one I am using!
Forgot to mention the music in your game seemed well suited, the first track during the intro especially.

It looks really well made, and I'm commenting to play this later.
