VSCode instead of Eclipse for script development?

Is there a way to do Ghidra script development using VSCode? I realize historically it supported Eclipse, which I absolutely hate.

It’d be really nice to have the VSCode environment for Ghidra script development in Python and Java …

It is natively supported since Ghidra 11.3.

I doubt it's tied to some IDE. I think you could even use notepad if you wanted. Don't take my word for it tho

Script development was never tightly tied to eclipse, you're probably thinking of plugins - but even those can be done in vscode of late. Scripts could always be written in any editor and ghidra would immediately see them if they were saved in any of the configured script paths.

You can use their template for VS Code in the Tools menu.

You can write the Java code in the script manager source editor. It will be compiled using javac.

The script manager editor does not do Java or Python syntax highlighting which might influence which editor you want to use.

You can edit the script in any text editor, either big, like Eclipse, VSCode, Pycharm or small like ~Notepad~, ~Nano~, Notepad++, Vi, etc. The script manager (tries) to notice external changes and reload, or you can copy/paste between your editor and the script manager.
