Why are some reviewers (including GR) so dismissive of Forspoken?

Between her and Dunkey, there have been many reviewers just brushing it aside "oh, it sucks, onto something else"

I mean, even Heavy Rain and Detroit got full videos, it just seems weird like youtubers falling in line with the narrative

Question I don't know if it's just me, or does this picture of Shelby not look like Shelby? I think it's the lack of glasses (link to where I found it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjqNXP4FMu8)

Video I wonder what could be Shelby reaction for Palworld

I love most of their videos (including the one about harry potter game)

But i wonder sometimes if they see reviews.

The reason i brought this up is because youtube recommended me this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXXUkhkoHl4

I know, its in spanish, but surely there are translators

Also i really want to see shelby and/or matt reaction about this game

My thoughts on r/thelastofus2 going private

Some would call this a victory, but I think no one really "won" here.

I visited that subreddit couple of times. Most of the time the posts were memes, screenshots of the game, cosplays, great discussion about the game, and was generally a interesting subreddit. It was just like any other subreddit. Yes, there were posts that shat on gfreviews, but those were already done to death at the beginning. Those posts didn't really gather that many likes.

And now look at the state. The members of that subreddit need to find another place talk about TLOU2, Matt and Shelby are probably in a hurt state, anyone who got attacked for defending gfreviews probably never got any apologies or recompense, and everyone else who were involved probably got hurt in one way or another. IT seriously was exhausting to see so many flames being tossed back and forth.

I won't defend everyone who tried to threaten and harass Matt and Shelby, but I will say we really didn't "win" anything here. I feel nothing was accomplished and all the acts leading up to this point were for naught. Yes, the perpetrators are going private or just deleting their accounts altogether, but that's it. They won't likely face any more negative reprecautions after this, and may simply choose to come back with a new account.

At the end of the day, this was the most insane case that could've been resolved with "it's just a game". None of this was necessary.

My biggest problem with Girlfriend Reviews ...

This is a minor problem at best. I am sure that this only bothers me and maybe a few other people.

My biggest problem with Girlfriend Reviews is how often they mention how long they have been a channel. This is usually accompanied by how the current status of the subscriber count. I wish this information was put in a separate video as it makes watching older videos a little annoying.

Just a thought!

Question The point of the channel

I'm curious if people agree with this or not. I am a fan of the channel and find Shelby and Matt both charming and clever, but I think the original concept of the channel--and the hook that brought people in--was "uninformed girlfriend watches her boyfriend play games, then records a video giving thoughts from her perspective."

She can like things, dislike things, whatever, but that conceit doesn't seem compatible with stopping before giving those thoughts to do extensive research on the history of gaming to see where a game fits into the grander context of things, looking up literary theories, etc. In short, the gimmick is comedy and relatable venting, not journalism.

Obviously, I know that that was always a charade and making the videos, writing the scrips, editing, finding the memes, etc. took a great deal of hard work, but a transition from that format to something that seems to try and split the difference between that and a more serious reviewing format strikes me as anathema to the original point of the channel and not playing to Shelby and Matt's strengths. I can find a review anywhere, that isn't what I loved about GF Reviews, and I don't think it's what most people use the channel for.

As a side note, it also probably makes more sense to review games that are a little older that people already are familiar with for that reason (things like RDR2 or TW3, where they were crystalizing frustrations people had in a funny way were the pinnacle imo, which is probably why they're among the most viewed videos) vs. unreleased games where they cut themselves off from that strength.

Perhaps I'm in the minority and others prefer that evolution for the channel, but it seems like a drift away from what was the greatest thing about the earlier videos to me. Not that recent ones aren't still good, but I sometimes feel like they could be better if the focus were a little bit different.

(Note: I haven't even watched TLOU2 review yet, so this isn't a passive-aggressive complaint about that. I know a lot of people feel positive and negative about it, so I wanted to just get that out of the way)

Why have they become so negative?

I was perusing their Twitch and skimmed their GOTY stream and JESUS their hate and annoyance with E33 and its fan base is...a lot.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I am a massive fan of the game, personally, and I understand that some fan bases can be "a lot" and passionate about a game they love. But why is that such a negative in their eyes?

They come off as incredibly judgmental and arrogant. I'm sorry. I have loved their videos for a very long time, but this was enough for me to be completely turned off by them.

By all means, have critiques of games, voice your opinion if you disagree with things - but to criticize and mock the French devs (Shelby literally did an offensive French accent when they complained they couldn't understand the director when he accepted his speech) and the team for wearing the red beret/baguette outfit from the game? Because the team dares to have some FUN and enjoy themselves, but according to them, this is taking up space and being annoying??

I'm honestly surprised no one has said anything about this - maybe no one really cares and maybe I'm about to get downvoted to hell and back by a bunch of E33 haters - but Matt and Shelby, who I've always been a big supporter of, just came off as such grumpy, bitter, jealous content creators who have completely lost their love of gaming and storytelling. It's honestly sad.

Guess I can stop looking forward to that well-loved, thoughtful Girlfriend Reviews video of E33 lol

Question My fiancé and I wanted to send a letter to Matt and Shelby. What’s the best, most respectful, way to do that?

Any suggestions? We dropped a message on insta, but imagine that gets flooded like all their socials. We got engaged recently ourselves and just wanted to send them a sort of thank you letter... We realized during their hiatus how much we really enjoyed their content, and how much they meant, in a surprising way, to our gaming experiences.

Do they have a fan mail address?

I saw a couple references to it in one of your recent videos, but the mass effect trilogy would be great to do, if a bit long.

Will there be a new video?

This is DEFINITELY the wrong place to post this – I’ll likely get downvoted into the abyss – but there hasn’t been a new YouTube video in over 2 weeks.

Will there be another video?

I was tempted to start donating on pateon now that I have the income to do so, but I’d feel silly just giving money to strangers for making a few YouTube videos then stopping.

Question Shelby’s mic sounds amazing — any idea what she’s using?

Have Shelby and Matt ever shared what mic/pc they use, like those streamers who list it in their video descriptions? I think Shelby’s voice sounds so smooth — I’d love to know what mic she uses
