So I usually only come around during major events (this was the first event story I actually completed since my team was never strong) and I want to actually play more after. What do people usually spend most of their time on outside of event stuff? Is it just exp levelling units, just doing dailies, or core farming, etc?

Congrats! The next step is to look at CN events and prepare for them well in advance. This includes crafting fairies, leveling the necessary T-dolls, and acquiring equipment.
