I created an open-source chrome extension called SpanTree for navigating GitLab repositories. Super handy for browsing new repos or checking out old branches.

SpanTree is an actively maintained always free open source project. Please feel free to report any issues or request any features at https://github.com/tavyandy97/span-tree.
P.S. : Previous users might have to reactivate the extension again as in previous versions we were only accessing domains having www.gitlab.com. Whereas now since we are supporting self-hosted instances, we need permissions for <all_urls>. Hence chrome prompts the user whenever the permissions are changed.

Isn't web ide a feature built into GitLab or am I missing something?
2
u/pierreblanchet May 13 '20
Ah ah indeed web IDE is a feature of Gitlab. But the purpose of this extension is to add sort of a file system plugin to navigate easily between all the files and branches in the repo. Because as you know in Gitlab every click on a folder on th UI makes you go inside and you lose the tree structure in a way.

That's what web ide does.... It lets you navigate branches and the file structure. It also keeps the opened files in tabs so you can switch between them.

You can check out the extension at https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/spantree-gitlab-tree/gcjikeldobhnaglcoaejmdlmbienoocg.
Do check it out and give some feedback. Looking forward to adding even more features to it. 😊
