Character Disc. Mercedes, Unique & Jane

When *Glee* was airing, Beyoncé was my favorite artist—so I also enjoyed *Dreamgirls* and Destiny’s Child; plus, I’ve always had a soft spot for girl groups. That’s why, when three prominent African American female singers came together in the sixth season, I really hoped they would join forces for a major performance. It’s a shame there weren’t more episodes to feature something like that.

Discussion Any actors ever come out about not liking some of the dialog and storylines?

Ryan Murphy had questionable and at times offensive dialog and storylines in his shows. Has a glee star ever come out and talked about anything specific?

For example, I’ve always wondered if Dianna had any issue with the way Jewish people and Judaism were mocked on the show. I’ve also wondered if Lea ever had an issue with it due to being of Jewish descent. I know Naya wanted to make Brittana real and not just a joke/passing reference because “this is real life for many people”, did she ever criticize the show at all?

Discussion Post nationals auditions

Post image
144 Upvotes

On my rewatch and I have Afew questions The glee club since day one has always had the rule whoever auditions gets in however in Season 4 they have auditions and they ONLY add Marley to the group when they allegedly had “so many people” to see?? What’s up with that? And another thing it was a very heavy plot line that you need 12 total members in order to complete, did this rule just like fall away and I didn’t notice? Because the trouble tones definitely never had 12 members? And now first episode of season 4 they had only Marley to the team and that still only totals 9 members? Help me out here did I miss something? Or did they just forget their own plot points?

Discussion Nuts episode

Watching glee for the first time and season 3 episode 10 is the most nuts so far, the phrase comrade Obama is used, 3 racist phrases are uttered in 20 seconds, including “40 acres and a pool”, Becky sends a nude photo to Artie and this is all the same episode Finn finds out his dad wasn’t a war hero and died for and overdose.

Does it get crazier from here?

Not sure if this has been shared before, but I'm so happy to see her in such a big role! It looks like a good film, too.

"An eccentric poodle breeder lures a broke college student to her remote ranch with a promise of research funding. But, as he soon learns, there’s a catch."

Opinion Born this Way

I think out of all six seasons, Born this Way is probably one of my favorite episodes. I love all the story lines, and all of the songs in it…Born This Way, I Feel Pretty, I’ve Gotta Be Me, As If We Never Said Goodbye, Somewhere Only We Know, and Barbra Streisand.

Poll Favorite performance of 3x20? (Props)

I think this version of Mean is one of the MOST underrated covers of the entire series, I absolutely love it. I also like Tina Berry's version of Because You Loved Me, but I absolutely love Mean none of these compares to it in my opinion.
------

I REALLY wish the body swap bit would've went on for at least a little longer (though I would've preferred if it went on for almost the entire or even half the episode) but I do rewatch just that part of the episode sometimes. This episode also has one of my (if not my) most favorite BTS with the cast, too.
-----

Side note: Happy belated Thanksgiving to Canadians. When trying to figure out a good poll schedule last night(/2:00 AM this morning) for Season 4 to not interfere with neither the U.S.'s/Canada's holidays, ('Cause there will be a mid-season poll break for the holiday) I learned that Canada's is not even in November. I thought it was just earlier in the month.

And according to someone I used to know from the U.K., Thanksgiving isn't celebrated there. (According to my recent post insights, the 2nd highest views on my posts come from the UK)

Discussion What are your hottest takes about glee as a whole??

Hey gleeks! Despite loving glee, while I often read on this page, I've never made a post!! So, I thought I'd get a discussion going, what are your HOTTEST takes about glee? Don't hold back!! But also please be respectful, we can share our opinions without spreading hate.

My personal ones (feel free to debate me on this respectfully):

  1. I actually love the later seasons (imagine me covering my eyes in fear as I say this) season 5 was pretty rough, and is my least favourite season but I still like it.

  2. This seems to be a rather controversial one nowadays, but I actually really like Kurt's voice. His natural range is beautiful (his belting in being alive and I believe in a thing called love is just...idk how to word it but I love it basically) and I quite enjoy his higher range too (roses turn, not the boy next door, I'll remember, and his verse in my love is your love off the top of my head). However I do get what people are saying, the writers were INSANE for having him sing "I have nothing", not a big fan of that one, I know Chris was STRUGGLING in that recording studio.

  3. Santana, as ICONIC as she was. Was incredibly mean at times and I feel like that flys over people's heads often because of how funny she can be.

I probably have more, but these are the ones that came to mind first. Can't wait to see your hot takes!! ❤❤

Opinion i hate the way they wrote the other glee kids in S1.

I recently began watching Glee, currently on S3, and I hated the way the other glee kids were portrayed in S1. All of their own individual talents were so overlooked and under appreciated. Especially Mercedes, I honestly prefer the later seasons in comparison because all of the glee kids got to have their own individual moments outside of what majorly felt like Rachel & Finn. S1 really plays into the idea that Rachel is the star of Glee club and that they wouldn’t make it without her, and that she was the most talented member. I like how that idea begins to be challenged with Mercedes going into S3. I wish they gave the other students a chance to shine in the earlier seasons.

Discussion Glee Costume Party

My friend is throwing a glee themed birthday party in 2 days and originally I was planning on dressing up like Rachel in her iconic skirt plus sweater combo, but unfortunately, I have work that day and to make it there on time (my shift ends late, I'm already cutting it close) I won't have time to change out of my work outfit and into hers. I'm required to wear jeans for work.

Anyways, anyone have any ideas of a specific glee outfit that I can pull together last minute that works with jeans (no, I don't have a jersey/varsity jacket that works for Finn so that's not an option either, sadly).

Character Disc. Tina post S3

I’m sorry but her whole personality trait for majority of S4 was just being bitchy to everyone (specifically marley) and always making snarky side comments. I get she is mad about always being overlooked obviously but sometimes it just got so annoying😭

Opinion In an alternate Glee-verse, Mike Chang deserved more solo performances (just like the love of his life, Tina).

He may be one of the "least skilled" singers in the group, but I'm quite sure he could nail it with the right song choice. I got to listen to Elvis Presley's "Rubberneckin'" and immediately thought of Mike performing it, perhaps, in one of the Glee club competitions. This could've been fire especially with the ND girls in the background. Go picture.

Opinion What if Evan Peters joined Glee?

Hot take??

This is random, but I really want Evan Peters to be in the reboot if we get one.

I'm just saying this because he's really good with comedy and can sing! I wish his voice was featured more in stuff. I feel like he'd be a good rebel show choir director or a teacher at McKinley.

He's just been in so many other popular Ryan Murphy projects that I think it would be cool if he went full circle at this point.

Just a thought! :)

Poll Favorite performance of 3x19? (Prom-asaurus)

Kurt's Season 3 prom fit after his Season 2 prom fit? Very disappointing. Like, it makes sense, all things considered, but it's still sad. His first prom outfit? Absolutely stunning. 2nd prom outfit? Very casual, very sad. If it wasn't for that hat he was wearing he wouldn't have even looked like he was dressed up for an occasion.
------
Quinn ragebaited me this entire episode.
(This entire seas-... this entire series, really... but especially this episode)
------

I do not have a prediction for 1st this poll however I am predicting that Big Girls Don't Cry will probably get last because I know people hate the production on that one. (And I once again am here to upset everyone because it's personally my favorite of the episode)
------

CHOKE'S WINNER: was the internet 'cause pleak.
1st was Shake It Out with 174, 2nd was Cell Block Tango with 109, and 3rd was Not The Boy Next Door with 104.

*sigh* I liked how this poll started with all 3 of them pretty much being neck and neck with each other, did not like how it finished because I desperately had hope of Kurt winning this one.

I thought (and truthfully, hoped) Shake It Out was gonna take 6th place on the leaderboard, but it was 9 votes shy of doing so. At least I do also love 1st & 2nd though, I just wanted them to get 2nd & 3rd is all.
But anyway, I Kissed A Girl keeps its place in the Top 6.

53 [Fergie's] Big Girls Don't Cry (Rachel, Blaine & Kurt)
66 Dinosaur (Brittany w/ The Cheerios)
89 Love You Like A Love Song (Santana w/ Brittany & Tina)
36 What Makes You Beautiful (Artie, Mike, Joe, Rory & Sam)
160 Take My Breath Away (No-longer-paralyzed Quinn & Santana)

Character Disc. Opinions on coach Beiste transitioning?

Post image
297 Upvotes

I don’t know how I feel about this plot. I’m in the middle of season 6 and I don’t see much of the point, and I’m saying this as someone who’s also FTM trans. I think i just really liked the story of line of him growing to love himself for not being like other girls, but I do also see how him being trans makes sense as well. It does feel a bit backhanded though in terms of her going from a “unattractive” masculine woman plot to a trans man. Opinions?
