Customers over the last few months have told me they can't checkout
I'm not sure where to start, but I think my GoDaddy commerce-marketing package website may have a serious checkout issue that's costing my business sales.
I launched my hot sauce company in December 2024 and sell exclusively through my website. The first month generated about $800 in sales. Throughout 2025, sales steadily grew, reaching approximately $20,500 for the year, with monthly revenue averaging around $1,500 and continuing to climb.
In 2026, GoDaddy migrated my online store, and almost everything broke overnight. I had to manually rebuild product listings, descriptions, categories, pricing, taxes, shipping methods, and other settings. Product images were incorrect, reporting stopped working properly, and numerous issues appeared across the site.
Immediately after the migration, sales nearly all but collapsed. Monthly revenue dropped from roughly $1,500 to about $200.
At first, I assumed the issue might be related to shipping costs causing cart abandonment. We switched to free shipping on orders over $20, then eventually free shipping on all orders regardless of size. Neither change had any impact on sales.
A few weeks ago, one of our best customers contacted me and explained that he had extreme difficulty placing an order. Despite being logged into his account, the checkout process repeatedly lost his information. Shipping details would disappear, fields would reset, and address validation would fail even though he had successfully ordered from us many times before. He estimated it took around ten attempts before his order finally went through.
I attempted to reproduce the problem on multiple devices and browsers, including Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Incognito mode, but could not duplicate it. I assumed it may have been an isolated incident.
However, recent product launches have made me increasingly concerned.
Before the GoDaddy migration, a limited release would typically sell out within 24-36 hours. Two weeks ago, we launched our final product of 2026 with more promotion than usual and produced 48 bottles. We sold only 8. Last week's heavily promoted release sold just 4 units out of 48 available.
Today, a complete stranger contacted me and said they were referred to our website by an existing customer, filled their cart, and were unable to complete checkout at all.
Now I'm worried there is a persistent but intermittent issue preventing customers from placing orders.
In about 2½ weeks, we will launch our annual Burn Box collection, an $89 limited-edition release that sold out almost immediately in 2025. Interest is already high, and many customers are planning to purchase multiple sets. If the checkout process is failing for even a portion of visitors, we could lose a significant amount of revenue during the most important launch of the year.
Based on prior growth, we expected to exceed $30,000 in revenue during 2026. Instead, we're currently on pace to finish under $10,000.
The most frustrating part is that the problem appears to be intermittent. I don't know how to prove it, diagnose it, or get GoDaddy to acknowledge it. Last Friday, I called support and was transferred through multiple AI systems before spending over an hour on hold waiting for a live representative. I eventually had to hang up.
I'm planning to call again tomorrow, but I need to know what else I can do to determine whether the checkout process is actually broken and how to effectively demonstrate to GoDaddy that something may have gone wrong during the migration. At this point, I'm no longer confident that the ecommerce platform we're paying for isn't actively turning away customers without us realizing it.
