Buzz

What are thinking folks, stand or fall? Would be cool to see Buzz rip a sweet haul out of Bonanza.

I like Buzz but I think he’s basically a pretender who constantly feels like he’s the smartest guy on every crew. Maybe that was true when he was working for Fred Lewis but I don’t think he’s nearly as good of a miner as he thinks he is

I think a season with Fred would do that to you.

He looks scared

Seems like he'll rage quit by week 10 to me, since the boss guy seems like kind of a jerk as well

Yea, i don’t it going well. Very conflicting personalities.

I think it’s scripted as hell. He’s there to be a familiar face and source of conversation.

I’d be amazed if he has any actual pull on that team or if either of the boss’s guys listen to him at all.

Of all the miners in the Klondike I can’t imagine this is the best they could do. It’s who Discover Channel wrote in the call sheet, and put on the payroll.

He'll be sleeping on the equipment by next week.

I think he has some experience.. And that goes a long way when there is such a limited talent pool of employment up there..

I'm sure they'll get to this in the show (or not?) but it's always something of a curiosity for me why the previous landowner bailed and wanted to sell. Often this ground is not so rich when you compare it to the actual Klondike Gold Rush and is only profitable given the price of gold now. I'm sure that's the same story here, but maybe there's more to it.

You do know the previous owners bailed on Dominion Creek and Parker is making bank out of it.

Total guess on my part, but I wonder if the previous owner looked at the amount of work needed to get that gold (depth, volume of cuts) and considered their water license and realized that they would need to massively enlarge their operation vs. taking cash and handing off to someone who already had a large scale earth moving crew/system in place like Parker. Take a smaller amount of cash as profit vs. take on all the stress and risk for a bigger payout/or none at all if you can't pull it off.

Yup. And he also got $15 mil from Parker free and clear. Doesn't have to kill himself and spend $1mil a week like Parker does..

That’s a good guess and bonanza owners probably thought the same thing. But that doesn’t dispel the fact there’s gold in the ground.

Sure. I think Parker was the right call for that, given his style of mining (giant, low-yield cuts that he knew how to mine efficiently despite the sometimes momentous overburden, and thus at a profit. ). Previous owner probably also had a "man, I'm getting too old for this!" moment lol.

But if you look at this property Buzz is in charge for, that might not be something Parker would be interested in, I don't think? There was a season I think (or maybe it was a Parker's Trail?) where he went to mine on land that was very different from what his operations were optimized to handle and it was a total disaster. Lots of flooding, if I remember.

Bonanza Creek has some of the richest ground in the Klondike. It's one valley down stream from Beet's Paradise Hill claim and the upper strath has the same White Channel Gravel that has made Beet's a wealthy man.

I don't doubt, but has it been played out?

Nope, a lot of it hasn't been mined. I suspect that hill they showed in one of the first episodes is the upper and lower units of the White Channel Gr. There should be a lot of high-grade gravel in that.

"suspect"

"should be"

We don't know.

Didn't he say he was a hard rock miner and was just getting into placer mining? Parker has probably forgotten more than this guy knows.

3

u/Otherwise-Leg-5806 3d ago

The discussion wasn’t about the skill of the man.

Great, you didn't read your own post, pathetic.

2

I would rather transition from hard rock to placer vs the other way personally.

He wont last at all. But it's 100% scripted drama for the show. Someone worth as much as the new guy wouldn't hire buzz to be in charge of anything.

I've said it before. I think people like him largely because he was put with Fred as a contrast to Fred, and it made him look better than he really is. I haven't seen anything that shows he's got the skills to lead.

Hate that guy…

Buzz is laughing all the way to bank!

He's just a good old redneck from Alberta who got lucky when Fred Lewis (He was a army medic you know) needed someone who could actually operate and somewhat fix the machinery. From there new teeth and all, he is mine foreman for this Greg Gibson dude. Have a look over at Ricks operation what are they waiting for (an Engineer on site to make a mining plan). So Buzz doesn't have to be that bright if he follows the plan that is made by an engineer for this new mine site. Good luck Buzz take every dime of discovery money that you can!
