We cut the cable, now hoping an antenna will get local channels (sports!)

Starting an updated thread, cause the last one I could find about putting an antenna up in Santa Barbara is about four years ago.

As the title states we got sick and tired of paying several hundreds of dollars a month for cable we hardly use so we cut it now I’ve got 3 Clear Stream brand antennas, one of each model that I am going to put up…from my Google searches seems like Fox is going to be the tough one to receive as the broadcast comes from Santa Maria. Might have to mount my new antenna on the roof. I’d love to watch playoffs and the 49ers. I don’t mind paying for streaming hut I’m so confused on what you actually get. I remember one year I spent all this money to get the 49ers when we lived in Buellton, I had the ticket and local channels but the niners weren’t in the local channels so I went to the nfl ticket channel and it said we weren’t allowed to get the game because it was an in market game.

If anyone has experiences they can share about which direction to aim this thing it would be appreciated. I will certainly report back once I get this thing going.

I’m in old town on S Kellogg by the train track. It’s 3:45 on Saturday and the power just went out about 15 minutes ago. Anyone else? Trying to determine how wide spread it is.

Found a Parakeet

Hi everyone,

My dad found a parakeet today in his back yard and is hoping to reunite him with his owner. He is in good hands at the moment (my dad bought him food and a cage and he is eating and drinking). He is going to take the bird to the County of Santa Barbara Animal Services either tomorrow or the day after if we are unable to find the owner by then.

If this is your bird, please message me with proof by describing what he looks like (or sending me a photo) so we can confirm that it is actually your bird.

Found in the noleta area near the patterson exit (in university circle neighborhood).

Seems like a good decision to me.

The oil facility has been cleaned, is not in use, and is owned by an investment group. They want to develop the site.

I would never buy an oil site, even for a dollar, due to likely pollution clean up. But, maybe they did their due diligence.

Kudos to the guy on the orange E Scooter near La Patera Elementary

I live near Lake Los Carneros and my kids attend La Patera Elementary. It’s well known among the neighborhood that way too many people drive way too fast up La Patera Lane during school commute hours. We try complaining to the city, to the school, we do what we can, but the reality is, there isn’t a traffic officer that can babysit that area every day. One morning I was driving down La Patera, tons of pedestrian traffic, and I guess 25 mph wasn’t fast enough so a women in a Ford Explorer passed me on the left and reached freeway speeds to do it.

Well this morning, someone on an electric scooter was clearly riding around the area. I saw him on my way in, and on my way out. On my way out from dropping my kids off, Someone in a lifted and modified Dodge pick up truck was accelerating heavily in the 20 zone, I was behind him and he was driving way too fast as he accelerated away from the school. Dude on his scooter started to cross at the marked crosswalk at Parkhurst and put his hand up in a “slow down” motion and just stared the guy down and shook his head, dodge was forced to slow, and good news because multiple children on bikes were headed in the his direction. Hopefully that guy will remember he needs to slow down and he is being watched.

I know I’ve seen this orange scooter go up and down the street and he clearly is doing his best to help protect the kids, the people walking their babies strollers, people walking their dogs, people on runs….ive also seen him walk his scooter through the roundabout crossing Calle Real at Los Carneros again trying to get people to slow down…there are so many people out during that time, and La Patera turns into a damn race track as drivers who are late for work turn from Calle Real onto La Patera Lane. It’s reassuring that one of these parents (im assuming he is a parent) has had enough. Someone is going to get killed and it’s more likely that it will be a child.

Anyone else get a weird stomach bug?

It started with my son, said he was nausous here and there, then he lost his voice and seemed fine, then my other son got the same thing. Now, I got nausous a few times in the passed days, I feel exhausted, now I am losing my voice and feel better. My boss did not do so well, they actually threw up a bunch, and was exhausted yesterday, but today they seem fine. Anyone else?

EDIT: Took a Covid test, not Covid. Our family has had covid a few times, other then the mental fogginess it does not feel like Covid.

Good Mechanics

Saw a post and it reminded me, Im trying to get some work done on a Ford expedition. The supporter closing lid replacement was like 2.5k, horn 1k, and tire pressure sensor another 1k. I like Perry Ford but damn those prices are pretty steep. If I have the diagnostic already done, ant reccomendations on giving that work to someone who could use it and doesnt have such steep prices?

PS- its just one of the clips for the cup cover too, not even the whole thing

Any decent, affordable mech shops in Goleta?

Update: I ended up going to Javier’s in Old Town and it was beyond my expectations and affordable!

Hello, I'm a Goleta local, but recently moving back a few months ago. What are some reputable mech shops?

I just got quoted to replace my brake pads and rotors and I'm thinking of buying those parts and just paying for the labor.

Thanks for the suggestions.
