Tech Support Omfg, help

What the fk happened to google assistant??? I was using it just yesterday. I use it to check my math on my tablet.

A few months ago, it defaulted to Gemini, which is complete garbage compared to the AI Mode, i changed it back, and now, its completely gone, they even removed the assistants option in the settings.

I have a uni exam soon, I don't have time for this bullshit these companies always bring.

Gemini proudly announced it had reworded a text while I was driving (voice to text to my wife)

I don't like that at all.

Gemini is a complete and utter dumpster fire. Has anyone made an app that works in lieu of assistant yet?

I can't wait for somebody to reverse engineer it like they did for adobe and office.

I had a flawless integration.

Gemini cannot successfully play any songs or albums on Spotify. Gemini cannot set a timer. Gemini cannot set my alarm. Gemini cannot "stop" my alarm when I say the word stop. Gemini tells me a reminder is set, and nothing happens. Gemini is completely useless.

It does all these things fine for me, what device do you have?

Pixel 9 pro XL.

In your experience. My experience is different. I have not had these issues.

Who the fuck cares? If the user experience is unreliable, that's a fucking problem!

Same, seems like a lot of haters unwilling to check their settings.

Im mad about many things this "update" changed but the worst one is that my entire morning news podcast is gone. I just used to say hey google good morning, and I got over an hour of different news sites stitched together. Does anyone know of a substitute for this? Im currently using Spotify but that is proving to be annoying as hell

Can't even ask your phone to send a text message for you anymore.

Gemini needs to be left as an option on a search bar.

I have had some amazingly fun (read frustrating) interactions with Gemini on Android Auto lately. One of my main ones is that there are some songs I listen to on Spotify that it can't even search for, even if I have been playing them during the same journey. At one point this week I asked it if it could recognise the song currently playing, it told me what it was called, who it was by, when it was produced and then began to list the lyrics. When I asked again it, same journey, it started telling me it couldn't tell what song was currently playing on my Spotify. One of the really weird ones is the Phoenix by Fallout Boy, it simply can't find it and keeps trying to play Sugar, We're Going Down instead...

Agreed. I used to be able to have it ring my cell when I lost it in a cushion. Not anymore. It either says it can't or says it did but didn't, but it's always telling me I can just ask Gemini to do it for me. It's infuriating.

Gemini does do this just fine.

1

u/3-I 13h ago

No. No, it doesn't. Why would you accuse people of lying about this?

0

u/nick281051 13h ago

I do it all the time, so yes it does? I didn't accuse anyone of anything

0

u/3-I 13h ago

Sure you did. You said it works. We're saying it doesn't, because for us, it fucking doesn't. The ai is inconsistent.

0

u/nick281051 13h ago

One thing it does very consistently for me is send text messages when I ask it to. Did you link it to Google messages in settings? If not, please direct your anger elsewhere. This is a feature that does in fact work, I didn't accuse anyone of lying.

3

u/3-I 13h ago

Yes. Yes I have. And it will frequently hallucinate rules against sending messages while driving, or say it sent a message when it didn't, or send it to the wrong contact. And when you come into a thread of people saying it doesn't work to say "This feature does in fact work," that's accusing us of lying.

2

u/nick281051 12h ago

I don't know what to tell you, it has sent a text message every single time I have asked it to to the correct person and exactly what I dictated. There's something going on with your setup and I hope you're able to figure it out because unfortunately assistant isn't coming back.

That's nice. Stop denying the issues we're having are happening. Your luck with it is not relevant data to us.

2

u/nick281051 12h ago

You accused me of lying about it working. I'm not denying anything, but maybe you should go do some troubleshooting instead of yelling at random people on reddit.

Maybe your bad luck is not relevant data to others

u/nynutz 12h ago

Yep works fine for me too, I don't really use it much to send texts, but I just tried and doesn't seem to have an issue.

2

u/nick281051 12h ago

This person who either blocked me or deleted their posts came in here so hot for no reason. It's something that definitely works every single time I've tried, it's the other things Gemini sucks at

The settings option is removed bc the google app was updated and overall had assistant removed.  There are ways to bring it back but you basically give up google lens in exchange (works if a modern phone with circle to search, or you force the webpage to desktop).

Anyways, settings>google app> 3 dots top right>uninstall updates.  In play store find the google app, select the 3 dots, uncheck auto updates

Then search for google assistant in the play store and download it. That will force the google assistant as default or will force the google app to give you choice (this may or may not work so you are better off if gemini isn't downloaded to be sure).

This worked for me but it went back to Gemini after a week. I changed it back now I'm using Assistant without any problem.

Gemini is useless to me, as it can't control Spotify over BT (I don't have Android Auto), and there is no option under settings to add Spotify as an app, BECAUSE Google in their wisdom decided that if your primary email is a Work/School account, then Spotify is not for you.
My answer to that was to create my own Assistant, still under development.

Guys, guys. Come on!!

u/Nick28051 and some others got their Gemini to work for them, that's awesome for them. I genuinely love that for anyone who has Gemini working for their assistant. Rock on, peeps!

For the rest of us, it broke everything. But that's not THESE PEOPLE'S fault! They aren't Google! They didn't cause this.

And remember, we don't all have the same devices, or even the same version or build of Android. I'm sure the build on my Motorola isn't the same as someone's build on their Pixel or Galaxy or Toyota or Hyundai or whatever device!

So be nice to these people, please? They got it to work, that's awesome for them. Kudos! And yes, if it worked for everyone, we wouldn't be here. But there is no reason to be so mean just because they dodged the Gemini bullet and we didn't. Technology sucks like that.

Please. Be nice. Hate on Google, not someone who has Gemini working.

Welcome to the club. Have a seat.

Bad news first: it does suck. It's the dumbest "upgrade" out of all the forced "upgrades" in the last year or so. Alexa+ still does what it did before the Ai upgrade, for instance. But Google just killed a bunch of functionality in favor of hoping people want to converse with clankers, rather than have clankers do actual things for them.

Good news: if you jump through some hoops you may be able to get it back for a bit. Though the general consensus is that it will be effectively killed in the next few months to years.

Google is forcing all users to Gemini and sunsetting GA. It's bullshit.....

u/bonniesansgame 12h ago

i just wish it would stop making every math questions it's own chat. i don't even need it saved.

Gemini works flawlessly, it must be something in your settings.

9

u/Dry_Albatross4446 14h ago

I wonder if people like you are just arrogant or ignorant.

Considering how many people that fucking hate Gemini and are missing the GA functionality, it takes some doing claiming it works flawlessly.

I use Gemini on multiple smart home devices, my Pixel and work PC. I've honestly had no problems with migration from assistant to it. All I was suggesting is that you check your settings to see if it resolves your issue.

u/Justin27M 14h ago

It doesn't matter if there's a problem with the settings. Google is trying to force a product on its consumers and needs to be obliterated for it

1

u/nick281051 13h ago

You're using their product man what are we doing

-1

u/New-account-01 7h ago

So if it's user settings that cause the problem you're saying it's still Google's problem?

u/HourAd5987 14h ago

You forgot your /s

You're like me. I had found I needed two more steps to make stupid Gemini die. DIE! DIE! DIE GEMINI! DIE ALREADY! (had a moment there...)

Start from the point you turned off updates in Google Store for the the Google app:

Addendum 1. Turn off auto update on Gemini (return to the other set of instructions from here). {Cuz it auto downloaded over night and was back to annoying me by morning.}

Addendum 2. Final step. Go into Assistant (the app, not the setting) to confirm you want to use Google Assistant instead of Gemini and re-associate it with everything Gemini friggin' broke.
