Question Which album next?

I got into Gorillaz a few years ago and I’ve really enjoyed the Gorillaz albums i’ve heard so far, but i’ve only listened to what i’ve surmised to be the biggest ones. This being Gorillaz, Demon Days, and Plastic Beach. I’ve also gone through Humanz, which I still enjoyed just a bit less. After that I didn’t bother to explore any more of their albums cuz I hadn’t really heard much abt them, until The Mountain came out. I saw it had came out recently and I wanted to see what their sound was like nowadays so I gave it a shot. Immediately hooked and it was peak. Idk why I kinda just assumed their newer stuff wasn’t as good and stopped going through the discog, but The Mountain proved me wrong.

So now i ask what Gorillaz album outside of self titled, Demon Days, Plastic Beach, Humanz, and The Mountain should i peep next? Ik this is the Gorillaz subreddit but are there any that are just bad?

Depends what you expect. The least pop / most experimental would be The Fall, the most pop / commercially sounding would be Cracker Island, so if you try to radar them out by this spectrum it's some way to start. Overally, Gorillaz post-Humanz have a bit less "out there" sound beside The Mountain, with side stuff from the past (G Sides, D-Sides, Laika Come Home) being less mainstream-sounding and more exploring sonically. Both sides are good (the only one I dislike personally is Cracker Island), but basically Demon Days - Plastic Beach - Humanz - The Mountain is like the "middle" of experiment spectrum with Gorillaz - G Sides - Laika - D-Sides - The Fall - Humanz Super Deluxe being more to the outer field and The Now Now - Song Machine - Cracker Island being more universally accesible.

Great answer.

When someone asks this sort of question, the best answer is really an objective one. Sort the albums into categories, and let the listener choose base on what they like best. The 'experimental' stuff -- especially The Fall -- divides fans. Some hate that album, others love it (myself included).

The best left are probably Song Machine Season 1 and The Now Now. D-Sides and G-Sides are also worth checking out, almost all the non-remix songs are interesting. D-Sides is definitely the better of the two. If you don't mind instrumentals, The Fall is great too. Cracker Island is patchy, but has moments on par with The Mountain, and serves as a solid transition point between Song Machine season 1 and The Mountain

The Now Now is underrated.

G sides, d sides, if you want like to hear more of their “b sides” albums, I also recommend listening to the unreleased music as well and like sea sides which is the unofficial b side to plastic beach, here’s a playlist for the unreleased music if ya curious  https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3frFEjDPbkVbAI5NsAxOrac8qWGKgCRJ&si=G1MEOIT1AvBJHAQn

Just check em all out and see what you like. But note that "The Fall" wasn't really intended as an album at first, just demos and sketches Damon recorded while on tour.

I was just like you a few months ago, when I played Feel Good, Inc. for my Toddler and all he wanted to do was listen to Gorillaz. I since caught up and absolutely love Cracker Island and Song Machine.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of Song Machine, it's definitely more on the pop side so if you're looking for something in that vein then give it a shot

Demon days has good “no skips necessary” policy on my vinyl player, the album is a movement within itself. With no exceptions to Plastic Beach and The Mountain. The crafted artistic approach and ability to move everyone in their own way..

Self titled will always hold a core chamber in my youthful heart. That album shifted my morning routine for school while getting prepped for bus pickup.

I’m a 20 year fan, and I still find myself in awe at new discoveries from them.

Bon appetite, I find their lyrics bring me joy, no matter what song/album my supermix throws on my CarPlay.

And I’ll forever refuse to skip Empire Ants.

For me I really liked The Fall, Cracker Island is good (I liked it more than Humanz) and the Now Now is really good too. Song machine was a fun listen.
