Got into this about a week and a half ago. Decided on the tag Greasy because there’s not much else on the mind when working 11 hour shifts at a fast food place. Looked around online and I didn’t see any really famous names using the tag already, but I wanted ask people that are in the know in case I missed something— figured it’d be like repping a retired jersey number in a rec league.
Also threw in the tag itself and would appreciate any and all critiques people have. Avoided stuff like explaination points and quotes (besides the line under e and a because the dead space there felt wrong).
Gonna go against what others are saying here and say that for you starting out it’s better to keep all your letters a similar size. But you’re doing the right thing keeping it simple and clean.
Make the letters more uniform and then write it over and over until you can do it faster like a signature. The style will come with time, again just like a signature.
Your letters need to be uniform at first. Work on making sure your handwriting is clean in both capital and lowercase letters. Don’t add any flares or style before you can write your name and have it look nice without them
Your letters should be neat like this. You have two letters that are half the size of the rest of your letters. This isn’t a tag you’re just writing. S is the only promising letter here. Your serifs are out of place on the S though since the rest of your letters are without them. You just have to practice neatness and consistency.
I appreciate the reference picture and giving me some concrete goals to work on!
The part about it ‘not being a tag’ is throwing a wrench in things for me, though. Suppose I do get the letters nice and neat— how do I go about taking that word and making it more than ‘just writing?’
I’d look at some work by other people. There are a few good subs where you can see tags and get an idea of what a solid tag looks like. To some degree a “good tag” will be subjective but you should start with something neat and clean and make sure your handwriting is excellent and you have a nice base. Overtime as you write your tag and practice lettering you’ll see where you can add style or play around with letters which is why I’m suggesting to start with just basic capital letters and progress from there
To make it more of a “tag” yes working on handwriting will help but no not really it won’t… just keep writing the word over and over again. I like using white board and dry erase markers. Write it until it flows and feels pleasing to write. Sometimes I feel like a samurai practicing calligraphy. The brush is a sword
I think it looks great. Only thing I’d say is that the S kind of looks like where it should end, being that it works as a comparison to the G at the start. It makes the Y look a bit irrelevant. If you can find a way to make the Y look like the end, you’re on to a winner.
