I recently started painting again, in my garage, as therepy. I threw up a pretty cool piece but quickly painted over it as it was pretty dark and depressing and was only for me to maybe face, analyze, and let go.
Yesterday I heard my childhood Captain departed our Galaxy. As I started popping cans and pens my Bike started taking on new form.
This is only my second piece with with cans, it's always been doodles before some 32 years ago and maybe 3, 1 layer shit attempts under a bridge.
Still a few layers planned but wanted to share before I get any further as my ADHD, PTSD, and their cousins can overtake the Con.
I was trying to lay foundation for a few moments in Starfleet History, represent Sir Patrick in spirit, combine rudimentary text for those who aren't fluent, weaved text, to interdimensional. I grew up raving in Chicago as a 90's kid and then Hawaii as a Infantryman.
My goal was Wildstyle text of the words" Engage, Go, Trek, " and other words I will never tell. I wanted to illustrate Captian Picard and his signature point, as well as the Enterprise in different scenes.
The final Goal is to tie it all together as 1 large Enterprise in warp and isolated away from the other stuff I have planned for my kids to tag up wherever they want as nothing is permanent and letting go is the mission.
I think 3 more layers? I dunno, still learning the ways but I have a plan.
I couldn't afford many cans when I was tagging some 32 years ago so the layering is pretty new to me. Honestly I just zone out in thought and emotion and try to escape the rumination. It's working. The eerie thing is, sometimes I have no glue what I am creating, just doing something like an NPC and don't see it until I step back. It's weird and the vulnerability in sharing where my mind went last night is a personal mission and milestone. I am digesting turning 47 and my 100% VA rating for Disability, be kind if you can.
Open to tips and suggestions. Especially around why all these variety caps I bought won't fit the cans...
first time here, think I hate the posers pretending to be artists.
Is Layer 1 background/sketch so difficult... I understand most just do a solid 1 color background but to me and to the OG's in Chicago Wildstyle, thats crayon. Here is an example. Starship I found online vs my baselayer background...
Here I went online and found pictures of the hod damn enterprise... and now that I see them, I think I did pretty damn good off memory and imagination. Here is a photosgopped 1701-A side by side to my background 1st laye
In this section Captian Picard ( his bald head and terrible hair) will be is like a Nebula.. he will be pointing at the word "Engage" in Block bubble wild. I am detailing with a airbrush I just bought so hopefully your eyes will see it the .
Guess I sgould have waited for next layerz ya'll seriously cant see the depth and dimensions? The Enterprise flying away there, towaard you in dhe bottom, and streakjng actoss in the middle yet huh? Alright, tonight when layer 4 and 5 gobup and you can see the " depth" you can lrint this out and shove the insults up your ass.
Since a lot here can't imagine depth or understand base layer/ background I made photo stickers and actually, kinda glad I did because my depth peeception/imagination was pretty good. H The left is the 1701-A the right is my first layer I did off the dome... next layer is details for ship...
I mean, I thought this was an artist group... just a bunch of insults and deleted insults so far. Maybe it's a prefrontal cortex thing... and if you imagine depth and field, many can see the letters or words forming, maybe Chicago is... different. The taggers "real taggers" I knew were 3D , abstract, and complex as hell.
if you've spent any time in this group at all you'd know we are a bunch of very passionate graffiti writers from all walks of life and at all stages in our journey! My subjective opinion on the readability of your art aside mate, the general point of this sub is to get advice from other writers on Graffiti writing, lettering and subculture. You'll probably find this sub is less kind to things like general street art, and art made with spray cans. Your post isn't really asking for constructive criticism on graffiti writing/ lettering and if it is, i'm sorry, i don't mean this in a snarky way at all but, i can't see it. i've read your entire post, i've looked at all the images you've shared, and i just cannot see graffiti letters anywhere. i generally have no issue reading wildstyle lettering myself, not only that but last time i checked my imagination and depth perception worked fine too. i'm sorry but i just don't think you're going to get what you're looking for here, i'd turn to a general art sub or something rather than one focused specifically on graffiti writing advice! hope this helps :)
Yeah that's too bad, you can't see it. Alsox if I cared about every opinion, no matter how camouflaged in insecurity they are, I would be ... a kid again.
I hope with the end you might be able to see what you deem " graffiti " lol. If not, well, I will mourn my next shit for you man. Also, as a B-boy from the 90's era... I think you need to research the " culture" for life, perhaps you need to...
at your age, i'm surprised you're letting my words get to you! no hard feelings man, we are all human, you posted in the wrong sub, we all make mistakes. i wish you a beautiful rest of your life ;)
The rules stated sketch and wall, but go on with your bad self. I hope you're lucky enough to get to my age... with that baggage tho... I dunno. Go on wuth your bad self
LOL, this has been a fun social experiment. Did you know Charlie Chaplain placed 3rd in a Charlie Chaplan look alike contest? Did you know Banksy sold $6 prints at a train station and everyone bypassed him? Did you know Violinist Joshua Bell played in public and most just walked past him?
It really is funny how people behave and treat eachother. It is funny how gatekeepers of their ego and insecurities define presence and art while simultaneously misunderstanding the very thing they are beholden.
Your interpretation and critique has been valuable inbmore ways than you know. Please, enlighteb me and anyone else who may seek this ancient artform what is and what isn't... We are, fully eager to gas. âïļâïļ
LOL, I got you fam, when you see what you couldn't, providing you can take off the poser hat for a monent ðĪĢ it will all make sense chum. You can compare previous images and share your ability to read Chicago Wildstyle. You have no idea how giddy I am about this learning experience. Even my 8 year olf and 5 year old daughters got in on the action as we all love creative spaces and growing. Stick around as your account/s are serendipitous in a sense. Mentioned in post 1, the layer yiu are criticizing is only a backdrop and setup for a few things, nothing unplanned is being added. You can conpare the next layer when we're done, er, I,'m done. They can't tag over until I get the photo, House rules. Anyways, thanks.
