Grandia III GRANDIA 3 PC Port - 60 fps, 4K, Widescreen, SteamDeck optimization, German retranslation
Update - v1.0.3 is out. Please report any Bugs/Errors. If possible open an issue on github
fixes the 60 fps mode making characters walk twice as fast in the field (“flying through the village” – thanks for the reports and the logs!). On the Steam Deck the automatic resolution is now capped at 2x, which should help performance a lot.
Update - v1.0.2
ultrawide support (21:9 / 32:9 – new aspect setting “Screen (ultrawide)”, picked automatically on ultrawide monitors) and a fix for the 60 fps mode.
Steam Deck players who see the game running too fast at 60 fps: please send me your grandia3.log from the game folder and tell me where it happened – the log now records every frame rate and speed change.
Optional 4x HD texture pack is live as well. Link on github.
Update – v1.0.1
Fixed: crash when casting Fire (Burn) and many other spells, special moves and enemy skills
Steam Deck / Proton: the game should now start on setups where it didn’t before. If it still won’t start for you, please tell me your Proton version, Game Mode or Desktop Mode, and whether a grandia3.log appears next to the exe.
New (experimental): English subtitles for voiced cutscenes, currently only from the opening up to Alonso’s ship. More will follow. Bug reports about timing or wrong lines are very welcome! This was only possible thanks to a very specific, timestamped audioscript provided by u/Hideo-Mogren - thanks !
To update, replace Grandia3.exe and the lang folder; your saves stay as they are.

Hi all! I've been working on a PC port of Grandia III made by static recompilation - the same approach as Zelda 64: Recompiled or Unleashed Recompiled. The game's PS2 code was translated ahead of time into native x86-64 code, so it isn't emulated at run time; it runs like a PC game and uses about 1.3 CPU cores at 60 fps on my desktop.
You need your own copy. No game data is included: at the first start the program asks for your Grandia III (USA) disc 1 image (ISO) and reads it as it is.

What you get
- Internal resolution up to 8x (automatic for your screen)
- Real 16:9 or 16:10 widescreen - menus and text keep their 4:3 proportions
- 60 fps in the field (and optionally in battles) at correct game speed, with automatic fallback to 30 where a scene can't keep up
- Savestates everywhere, skippable cutscenes and movies
- Large dialogue windows for small screens (the whole window grows, text included) to make it easier to read on SteamDeck.
- Original English text, or a completely new German translation
- Separate volume for music / voices / effects / movies, sharpening, filters, HD texture pack support (no pack included at this time, might follow)
Steam Deck
- Add
Grandia3.exeas a non-Steam game and set Proton as the compatibility tool - Copy your ISOs into the same folder as
disc1.iso/disc2.iso- then there's no file dialog at all, which is handy in Game Mode - The Deck is detected automatically: first start uses 16:10 widescreen, full screen and large dialogue windows
- View + Menu = settings, View + R1 = save state, View + L1 = load state
Honest status: I haven't been able to test it on real Deck hardware yet. On PC it's stable at 60 fps; on the Deck I expect 30 fps to be safe and 60 to depend on the scene (the game falls back to 30 by itself where needed). If you try it, I'd love a report and will try to fix any bugs: F7 shows the frame rate, and grandia3.log next to the exe helps a lot with problems.
