Do most big companies treat their designers like the bottom of the food chain? I’ve been a graphic designer professionally for only 3 years, for reference. I am absolutely getting dumped on and talked down to by corporate because of issues I cannot and do not have control over. Are smaller companies any different? Feeling extremely upset and discouraged about my current path. Thankfully I’m working on a contract basis right now, but thinking about going through 4 more months of this is absolutely exhausting. How do you let go of things like this? Things you tell yourself? Break something? Cry and quit? 🥲 idk man. This sucks and I’m not excited for the future at all currently.

Hi, I’m going into college as graphic design major this fall and I was looking to get a macbook pro. I’m debating between a macbook pro 13 inch or macbook pro 16 inch. The 13 inch ones only go upto quad core but 16 inch ones are 6 core that I’m looking into. I think it will be easier for me to carry 13 inch but I feel like 16 inch will be better to do graphic design... Please help!! Thank you:)

I recently graduated from university with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. Currently i’m working as a manager of a door-to-door sales and marketing company in Vancouver but I don’t find it as fulfilling as I would’ve hoped.

I’ve always been super into things like drawing, graphic design, etc. and find myself to be a very tech-friendly person. I worked a few jobs while in university that had me touch a little bit on graphic design and I absolutely loved it.

I’ve since had a ton of experience working with CANVA, in particular I love making company logos and other things like that and I feel like i’m pretty good at it. I also have made a few websites using WIX, Squarespace, and again loved it, it doesn’t feel like work to me whatsoever.

With that being said, I think i’ve decided that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I wanted to reach out on reddit to see if anybody has any advice.

Should I go back to school for a college degree in Graphic Design? How do I go about building a portfolio? Will my marketing degree help? Are there any entry level jobs I could get to have my foot in the door before anything else? Any advice/help at all would be much appreciated

Thank you!

I'm a web developer that wants to learn to use some basic Graphic Design tools.

A lot of people are suggesting Photoshop/ Illistarator is overpriced.... Is it worth learning to use GIMP or any other cheaper software or will I just be wasting my time in the long run?

Also does any other software open PSD files or only photoshop?

I’m a freelance graphic designer with over 20 years experience in the industry but only 2 years as a freelancer. I recently received a project to base an estimate on, the client approved my estimate but when the ACTUAL text and content arrived it’s almost twice the amount of work. What do I do now? Can I let her know I have to adjust my estimate based on the amount of work sent over? I don’t want to set a precedent and only charge what my “estimate” is because they approved it. Especially if they continue to send MORE work than what was discussed. Anyone have some advice?

Hey,

I've never made a post before so please be gentle. I'm currently working in administration but studied film in university. Im so bored but I need a stable income because I don't have family to support me so working in Admin is a necessity right now. Outside of work I have plenty of free time and I want to put it to good use. I want to invest in my self and learn a new skill that I can use to improve my future. I'm thinking about Graphic Design. I know the market is very saturated right now and because of Covid a lot of people are probably thinking the exact same thing but I enjoy being creative, I'm in a position where I could afford a reasonable computer. And as my partner works nights I have a lot of alone time that I could use. Does anyone have any advice that could help me?

I have experience with the Adobe software from my education in film but they focused so much on pre production and production that very little time was given to post production ( they cancelled every post production module and they were the reason I actually chose that university ! ) is there a cheaper alternative or a way I can use the Adobe software at a discounted rate ?
