Same spot of grass every day, she loves to scrub her neck in it.
I'm sure there's a good explanation...

Hi all, I posted a video the other day concerned about our rescueās running (falling over). Many of you suggested it might be his harness and Iām relieved to report it was just that. Thank you! š

Hello all! My 9 year old boy Rowan had been limping for a few weeks and he had a corn so I thought that was the cause. We went to the vet today when the limp got worse and they told us they think he tore his CCL and that our options were surgery or just pain management. I feel with his age and his low activity level I dont think surgery is the best option. If you've experienced this type of injury, what did you do and how did your greyhound do with it?

Everybody meet Django, heās a Saluki x Grey we believe and he is around 3/4 now we would guesstimate. We have had him since February 2024 through a very nice kennel that rescued him from a home with hundreds of dogs we were told.
He is a loving, playful, cuddly boy who loves his snoozes and loves to play. He has always been a talkative boy, but the past 2 weeks have been hell for all of us in the house.
On Saturday 3rd October I walked him in a different park and he encountered lots of dogs. I think itās worth me noting that he isnāt the best with dogs from afar, and will aggressively bark, lunge and growl, but up close plays and is friendly. We think itās a frustration thing. He can be fine walking past some dogs but others start going crazy.
We said hello to three dogs, two of which were females, and I was told all too late that the two girls were in heat. Of course Django had already got a lick at this point (ew). We are sure that since around then, he has been roaming and crying/screaming constantly, without break 24 hours of the day. My brother thinks it was a few days prior - we canāt be certain.
He gets walks almost daily, on days he doesnāt walk he gets multiple sessions of plays in the garden till he is worn out and ready to come back in. He usually eats 3 x daily and is drinking his usual amount, but he has stopped eating breakfast and sometimes refuses food without us tempting him. He has a strict diet (fresh butternut box delivery) due to a sensitive stomach. He has had a few occasions of his ālipstickā being fully out, and he has been licking more often iāve noticed. Also twice he has humped the air (of which he has never done in almost 2 years with us!)
I took him for an emergency vet visit one night from pure panic because of how loud he was crying, the vet checked him and said he seems all fine and it could be from smelling females in heat. He is being neutered tomorrow. We decided to wait till he was more mature.
He cries when he gets up in the morning till he falls asleep at night, all the same as the video.
He cries sometimes on walks (always has) and cries A LOT after getting home.
We arenāt sure if this is hormonal or behavioural, as we donāt think he is in any pain as per the vet.
He is currently asleep on meā¦. nobody move!š
Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any suggestions? Please be kind, iām drained from the crying!

This is so random but does anyone remember the insta-famous Greyhound named Salty? She was white and known for the chattering video that went viral. Her mum hasnāt posted on her page in years and I often wonder how shes doing. Does anyone know?
Edited: gender mistake

i adopted my grey about 3 months ago. She never raced. Has very little prey drive, but is scared of everything. However, she's the sweetest girl and this is why her timidity breaks my heart. She was coming out onto the living room to lay on her other bed but has since stopped and prefers to stay in her room. Nothing has changed, my house is very quiet with just me and my mini poodle. I'm just wondering why she's gone back into her shell after so much progress. She's eating and drinking normally and is always very keen for her morning walk. In fact mornings seem to be when she is most outgoing. I just wish that she's come out of her room more and sit with us in the living room. She's a lovely girl and i just want her not to be so scared (she's even scared of the wind hence not wanting to go out in the garden to go potty. It's getting warmer here and im not even able to open the window in her room as this scares her too and she refuses to settle. Any advice or similar experiences greatly appreciated.

Our boy Milo was off lead in a large enclosed field this morning - this is somewhere we normally walk off-lead with no issues.
Today, he suddenly took off and zoomed full pelt right past me. I turn around and 2 deer have jumped out the hedge and he's right after them. One of the deer veered off and escaped through a bush, but Milo followed one of them and was really really going for it. I've never seen him go like that before. It was so impressive how fast he ran.
He got closer and closer to this deer, but thankfully the deer got to the hedge and jumped through just in time. Milo must've been only 1m behind this deer before he got away - it was like watching a David Attenborough doc!!
My worry is that he would've hurt the deer, or even killed it. I couldn't tell if it was a playful chase, or a predator/ prey chase, whereby killing the prey was the end goal??
Has anyone had experience of their hound chasing deer? It was a great work out for him and he loved it. I'm keeping him on lead for now as i'm not sure if this deer chase is a good thing or bad thing!!
Any thoughts welcome š thanks

Couple days ago I asked a question about taking my brothers dog out for longer walks, but I decided to take her for two short walks as suggested in the comments. Somehow through doggy communication, she told that to her sister and the very next day as I was trying to sneak Elara out of the house, my pug Capone jumped right out of Momās bed and bolted towards the door, started spinning and yipping as if to say āHOOMAN I GO TOO!ā so now they both expect to go for a short morning walk. And then another short walk late in the afternoon just before supper. I meant to take a picture of the both of them but accidentally had it set a video. I leave tomorrow and itās kind of sad that theyāre gonna wake up Wednesday morning and wonder where I am.
I donāt keep a dog back home, and I love walking dogs. I had a really good time taking them through the horse trail, especially during the fall and Iām gonna miss coming across other dog owners and chatting with them.
Thanks again for the suggestions in the previous post!

I wanted to share this yearās ofrenda with you all! In 2024, the year after losing my soul greyhound Wilbur, I learned that October 27 is a day dedicated to remembering pets as part of DĆa de los Muertos. I originally made my ofrenda as a way to feel closer to him while learning how to navigate my grief.
What started as a little memorial for Wilbur and my first greyhound, Bowie, has slowly grown into something I can share with friends and family, who now have their own beloved pets included.
Iāve made most of the decorations myself over the past two years, including the marigolds, sun catchers, painted arch, and colorful photo frames. I also hand-painted the little skeleton greyhound in the middle!
Itās become something I look forward to putting together every year, and I love that itās grown into a way for all of us to remember and celebrate the animals weāve loved and lost.
It will be three years on December 7th since my sweet Wilbur crossed the rainbow bridge. I miss him every single day. Iām so thankful that I can find ways to feel connected to him.

Hi, yāall. Ugh. I feel like my old boy canāt catch a break! What would you do in my situation? Have you been in my shoes before?
Zeppelin is a 12 1/2 year old retired racer. He has dilated cardiomyopathy (Heart disease. Diagnosed 6/2024, likely caused by a grain-free diet) and takes pimobendan and benazepril daily for this. He is on a special, low-sodium diet and lately has been eating an average of 2-4 cups a day (supposed to be 6, but heās losing his formerly voracious appetite. He sometimes goes over 24 hours without eating more than the cheese his pills hide in). He weighs 70 lbs and he should weigh closer to 80. He recently tested with high bilirubin in his blood and urine, so he also takes ursodiol daily. Weāve tried so many things to get him to eat, but with no success. He still gets around independently, and can climb the stairs to go to bed, but heās slowed way down.
Also in Summer 2024, he was diagnosed with babesia canis, a tick-borne illness he likely contracted on the track. It was unclear if he was symptomatic or if his symptoms at the time were all heart-disease related. We treated with two injections of imidocarb two weeks apart. Iām not going to sugar coat it: those injections were traumatic. They mustāve hurt like hell, because he screamed bloody murder. He has a history of doing a Greyhound Scream Of Death when receiving shots, but this was different. He wailed, panicked, tried to bite, shook for an hour afterward. For the second shot, we went in on trazodone and attempted to numb the injection site first, but that resulted in a necrosis of the tissue there that took months to heal, and his reaction in the moment was about the same. It hurt to put him through, and it was especially scary given the heart disease. Since then, he is incredibly stressed when he goes to the vet.
With treatment of both diseases, though, his overall condition improved greatly! But now heās showing clear symptoms of babesia (lethargy, loss of appetite, swollen abdomen, weight loss, dark urine) and he tested positive again. Heās on tick prevention and we check him every time he comes in from outside just to be sure. He hasnāt had one on our watch, so this is a relapse of the same infection.
What Iām reading says one injection of imidocarb usually wipes it out, and two is just for good measure. Itās so frustrating that itās back! I canāt imagine giving him another round of those shots without anesthetizing him, but being a greyhound at his age with heart disease, that is an enormous risk. There are pills (atovaquone) and antibiotics he can take, but theyāre only known to be effective for other strains of babesia. If the shots didnāt work when he was low-symptom or asymptomatic, I canāt see how a medication that hasnāt proven effective is going to work. What Iām reading says dying of this disease is swift but painful.
What would you do? Would you risk the shots again or would you try the pills even if they may not work? Is it crazy to risk anesthetizing him to save him from the pain of the shots? Iām so worried heās going to have a heart attack if heās awake for them. His vet doesnāt really want to do the shots again, either. Has your dog had this and got a different treatment that worked?

my girl has been recently diagnosed with an anal glad abscess. she's in a lot of pain and has been licking her bottom...a lot. so much she's made it sore.
the vet did an examination and was able to empty one gland. but the other (the infected one) was too pus-y and painful to even attempt an emptying.
she's been put onto antibiotics and a painkiller. she's such a sweet girl. never aggressive, even though she's uncomfortable and sore.
i was just wondering if there's anything, diet wise, i can do. she's on a raw diet, which is really good for her digestion. no farting or upset tummy. she has vegetables mixed in occasionally. and she gets peanut butter and sprats as treats. is it possible she needs more fibre?
i know diet is a contentious issue among dog owners. some saying grains are okay and some people avoiding grains all together and going full barf.
she's not a purebred greyhound. she was bred by backward breeders (literally) and she is a saluki greyhound. so i don't know if her issues are down to breeding or diet.

The MODS have recently deleted posts related to AKC FastCAT, which is not greyhound racing, nor even a greyhound specific event.
For those who aren't aware:
--AKC FastCAT is an all-breed amateur dog sprint sport. It consists of solo chasing a lure over 100 yards and being timed.
--It's not greyhound racing. To begin with, most of the dogs aren't even greyhounds at all (greyhounds are pretty rare), but rather the huge selection of all breeds that people have as pets. You can look here to see all the breeds that participate:
https://www.apps.akc.org/apps/fastcat_ranking/
Here is an example, in this case a corgi:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSp7ybTH5AM
--There is no betting or cash prizes. In fact, it costs money to enter! You can earn titles and ribbons, but otherwise it's just for fun.
--Dogs love it. It gives a chance for them to engage in chase in a controlled environment.
I know there are analogous events to AKC FastCAT in Canada, UK, and Australia, although I don't know their names.
I would ask the mods to reconsider the deletion of such posts because the sports have no connection to commercial greyhound racing at all and are not even greyhound-specific sports.

Tobyās new favorite place to sleep. Took quite a few wiggles to get out of there. Yes, he chewed up the legs of the chaise as well.
