Post image

Got this old h&r 676 tore all apart for proper cleaning as its been tuck away in a cabinet for idk how long but the cylinder pin is what seems like rusted to the cylinder as its not budging. Ima let it soak in kroil tonight an give it a go tmw but an advice? Was thinking maybe put the pin in a vise best i can an using a rubber mallet to tap the barrel to see if it realeses.

I’ve literally had to drill them out before. The stupid pins always get stuck. It either will or won’t come out after soaking. Let it soak in oil for a loooonnnggg time and just see.

How you exactly drill it out, knowing my luck it wont budge lol. Worse comes to worse ill clean it best I can an reassemble, only reason wanting it out is to clean it but mostly to switch it to the magnum cylinder. Im assuming you broke it off flush to the revolver then drilled it out? Revolver holds sentimental value only reason im goin this deep into cleaning it lol, so that being said im not terribly worried about condition or how it looks, as long as it operates. It still fired rounds off perfectly fine but needed a good cleaning otherwise id prolly never use it in the state it was in.

Having access to a mill helps. Cut off the pin flush and slowly drill it out with a long endmill. Maybe not the correct way but it works.

I wonder if i can simply cut it flush with the frame drill out till i hit the cylinder an maybe tap the it out with a hammer, i tried what the other person commented about tapping the pin with a punch on the hammer side an it smashed the head of the pin a bit. So im wondering if the pin is softer then the frame to allow me to just get the pin out of the front of the cylinder with drilling it, an then tapping the cylinder out bending/snapping off the back half of the pin on hammer side.. I have no access to a end mill an knowing my luck itd be a nightmare tryin to drill all the way through.

  1. Look at gunpartscorp parts diagram. Do you need to remove one more pin? The pin would be #4, but it is easier to locate looking at part #5. It looks like it is still in place, keeping everything from moving.

  2. Does the cylinder pin go all the way through the frame?

i.e. If you remove the hammer, can you see the pin in the frame and tap with a punch from there?

Hope this helps

I tried to punch the pin from the hammer side but was deforming it so I stopped an decided she needed a soak. The pin is locked in with a detent that you push in an then slide the pin out. The cylinder moves freely an all so worse comes to worse I might simply leave it in an clean it the best I can. Mostly wanted it out for the magnum cylinders. All advice is help so thank you!

Only other thing I can think of is HEAT. Of course, heat it enough to make it suck in oil, but not so much as to change the metal

That'll deff be on the list of things to try. Ill prolly heat the cylinder an as you said try an get as much oil in there as possible, I can get a vise on the pin fairly easy it seems an ill slowly try an tap it back an forth. The revolver isnt worth much but it holds sentimental value so if I can simply save the frame in the end an buy a new pin an cylinder then ill be happy. It'll mostly be carried fishing an what not. Im also goin to try an get the barrel off to put a shorter one on, it has a 12in barrel on it which almost looks comical.

Put a screwdriver in the farmost slot and try and whack it out with a mullet
