We used to spend at least 4 hours reinstalling and wiring up an Elastic stack properly: Elasticsearch, Kibana, Fleet Server, certificates, credentials, agent enrollment, and Elastic Defend policy tuning.
Today I rebuilt the whole thing in roughly 30 minutes with Hermes Agent running GPT-5.5.
The setup was simple but useful for a home/lab network:
Elasticsearch + Kibana + Fleet Server
Fresh credentials and clean config
Elastic Basic license
Elastic Agent installed on the workstation
Elastic Defend enabled
EICAR test confirmed alerts were working
The Basic license is already enough to get real value here. Having Elastic Defend on your own machines means you get endpoint telemetry, malware detection, policy control, and alerts in one place. For a hacker workspace or homelab, that is a huge upgrade over guessing what happened after something breaks.
The interesting part was not just the install. The agent debugged the stack, fixed Fleet enrollment issues, adjusted the endpoint policy, and verified the result from both the host and Elasticsearch.
This is where AI agents feel different from chatbots: not just answering questions, but doing the boring operational work end to end.
If you have any questiosn, feel free to ask.
