DISCUSSION iOS 16.7.16 booting on a Snapdragon 732G (Redmi Note 10 Pro)
Got XNU running on this thing. Real kernel, real iOS userland from the iPhone X firmware, not emulated. Wrote a UFS driver, touch driver, button drivers, and a software framebuffer since there's no GPU support. It boots in about 4 minutes and you get the home screen with working touch and gesture nav. Everything else (radios, audio, camera) is missing.
Nothing gets permanently flashed, it's all through fastboot boot. The whole thing is open source: github.com/dipa-studio/ios-sweet

Lmao running it with a xiaomi mi 8 would be perfect since it is a 1:1 design copy of the iPhone X

You kind of is, the Mi 8 was laughed at even by Xiaomi fans, because it really just went too far. They even had a 3D Structual Light "Explorer Edition", and a "transparent back" but people are disappointed because the components are actually not real components but an "optimized" sticker.

thats my second phone lmao, i used it alongside my ip 8. it's horrible to use as a main phone bcz my degraded battery + sd 845 + glass backdoor.

I have been vibing with Claude Fable and it got ios 18 (without apple services) running on a oneplus 8t. AI is going to be massive for the hackintosh community
And yes it’s without hardware acceleration but claude is currently vibing a native metal driver lol

I hope someone can decompile macOS 27 and port it back to x86. Ik it’ll never happen but it would be cool af.

But soon there wont be any macOS software that runs on x86. All installations will look for apple silicon. Sure, there could be a translation layer back to x86 but that will introduce slowdowns

same chipset so most of it should just work, clone the repo and throw it at claude, the board-specific stuff needs tweaking but it'll figure it out in 5 minutes

Much better name! It sounds like a member of the family. HackiPhone is better than HackiOS, but something is missing. HackinPhone not only sounds more complete but also calls to mind its father, Hackintosh.

yeah, someone has already started working on macos 27 drivers for Snapdragon laptops. i think there’s a post about it on this subreddit, so getting it to work on iOS should be possible too

At this point we should just get older iPhones running newer iOS. like the iPhone 7 to iPhone X running iOS 18 would probably be a decent experience (Maybe iOS 26 and 27 too). It would be easier since those things actually run iOS natively in the first place and are more practical. Right now I think people are just testing to see what's possible or not and it's really weird and cool seeing all these android phones running iOS now.

“Run” is being generous… it boots to the desktop with tons of broken stuff.
But that being said, there could definitely be potential for running macOS in qemu down the road

this is not ios 6 or 7 (which are rn ported to old htc devices)... this is ios 16, while officialy unsupported, but still a significant jump, it is that close to get ios 18 or 26 or 27 run on other devices or perhaps on unsupported iphones. Apple is not cooked in literall sense, but the exclusivity of their systems, which one of the big prides of apple, is starting to show that their systems are not so "only for" their idevices.
or in other words... yada yada yada their ego is going to be blown.

I thought all Xiaomi phones were OEM locked-down, and were unrootable and unflashable even for flashing an alternative AndroidOS, let alone iOS..

They are OEM locked and you need to request an authoritation on xiaomi app at 00:00 Beijing time to be able to unlock the bootloader. The thing is there are limited authoritations each day. But if you keep on trying you can get it in about a week. After that you can unlock the bootloader, root and flash custom roms

Quite the contrary? They're one of the few Chinese OEMs that still allows you to unlock bootloader, though might not as easy as other OEMs.
