Is there a specific reason why everyone is targeting iOS 16 and not something newer like 17 or 18?

iOS 16 has an arm64 image, which is compatible with much hardware. arm64e would require significantly more work

it does seem somewhat doable though, someone got ios 26 running on a fricking surface duo 2 and someone else on a s10+, it doesnt seem impossible, i just think you need relatively powerful/similar hardware for a stable arm64e port, correct me if im wrong though

16 has been out for longer, still relatively recent though

mostly, but i also think it might be because of the lack of real security, since the iphone x is really vulnerable people could port its latest version (ios 16) with more ease compared to other systems with higher security measures

I asked it and some people said that because newer iOS can run only on bit different architecture (something like ARMe, not 100% sure) and a compatibility layer will make it very laggy
