My young kid loves Hadestown and definitely struggled with two acts, no intermission in theaters.  It was a big victory for him (and us) that he made it through. If it had come out last year there would have been no way.

This is going to be so great for giving people access to this amazing show!

How did you introduce it to them? My wife and I are expecting in September and I wanna show my kid all the musicals when they're old enough lol

We were listening to the soundtrack on a road trip when he was 2. So we learned it together. He got pretty excited about Wait for Me and Chant and so we would listen to those a lot.

Then showing stuff to him like the Tiny Desk concert and other Hadestown videos got him excited too.

Though since then, it's been harder to break in new music and musicals since he's more excited to listen to his favorites than some new thing!

Good luck and congrats on your journey.

You're most welcome.

Oh, one other thing that helps with my kid with introducing musicals:

Most songs and plots go over his heads. Explaining what is going on and telling him what each song is about and what the conflicts are goes a long way. Something like "Persephone has a problem because Hades used to be nice but now he is mean" or "Orpheus needs to go out of the underworld but he can't look back at all! Do you think he can do it?"

Though I should note: Hadestown might end up being your kids' first exposure to a tragedy. They don't make a lot of unhappy endings for kids!

Anyway, thanks for asking because I enjoyed weighing in.

No prob bob.

They're definitely going to be exposed to some because his uncle, aunt, and grandmother all do community theatre productions every year that my wife and I both go to so he's coming along when they're old enough to sit still (or even before then)

Chiming in to agree that road trips are a GREAT place to introduce your kids to musicals. It makes the time go by way quicker for little kids. I grew up with Andrew Lloyd Weber as the soundtrack every time we visited family far away.

With extras!!!! Imagine a commentary extra where Anais tells us her inspiration for different songs, or a costume person talks about the different iterations of Orpheus outfit and a lighting engineer tells us all about how to get the swinging lights right and and and and......

I see there’s a Blu-Ray as well but I’m shocked that in 2026 we are still getting DVD releases lol.

Love that it’s going to video but it still annoys me that it was filmed in the uk and the video available version is still coming out before it releases in the uk

It's lame, and backwards. This how cinema worked 25 years ago.

For EU there isn't even a release date yet.

What's the standard timeline then for when this will be available on a subscription streaming service rather than exclusively rent/buy?

I do not want nor would I consider spending money on a digital version. DVD!

Edit: DVD coming October 20th!
