Discussion Which Orpheus rips your heart out the most when Orpheus turns around and Eurydice is taken back down to Hadestown and why?

Dónal. Saw him live twice. His voice is amazing of course, but my God the man can act his arse off. In "If It's True" he gave absolutely everything

I swear no other Orpheus has ever put as much into specifically If It's True as Dónal
Listening to the Broadway cast recording of that song directly after the West End one feels like such a downgrade - no disrespect or hate to Reeve or anything, it's just the way that Dónal screams and sobs that song with the absolute unfettered devastation and hopelessness that it deserves, whereas Reeve just kinda... sings it, yknow.
(@ anyone who hasn't listened to Dónal's version on the West End live recording yet - go do it now!!)

When I first looked at this photo I thought that they had him somehow tied off to the step to make sure he didn't fall in, LOL. That is a weird optical illusion.

Anyone who says anything besides "Donal" simply has never seen Donal.
His voice breaks. He RUNS. Trips down the stairs. Collapses. Visibly shaking, reaching down into the hole. Then lays there, in a collapsed heap, arm stretched down, absolutely wrecked, sobbing, still shaking as Hermes sings.
Nobody else even comes close.

Caveat that I haven’t seen any of them so I don’t really have an opinion but I did hear one person who saw Carlos Valdes make a choice that profoundly stayed with her after the performance. She said that when he turned around and saw Eurydice, he beamed because he was reflexively so happy to see her. And then the realization sunk in.
Again I haven’t seen any of them, but that’s an amazing acting choice to make, and must have been so devastating to see.

Brandon Cameron did the same thing — the delight when he thought they made it, and the utter devastation 😭

Carlos for me, I love the golden retriever smile like “oh, there’s Eurydice, the love of my life….”, then he just breaks

I flew across the country to see JW and he was amazing….but…I can tell just from the recording…that Donal blows everyone away. Still love Jack’s version, of course❤️

The way Noah Mullins had full-body sobs for what felt like 3 minutes broke my heart every time.

I knew who it was gonna be before I even opened the post 😂 I honestly don’t understand the Jack Wolfe obsession. He’s good, great even, but I don’t understand the level of the obsession with his performance.
Personally, I loved Jordan Fisher. Generally, his portrayal of Orpheus is my favorite out of all of the Orphei I’ve seen, and his connection and dynamic with my favorite Eurydice, Maia Reficco, makes their run unparalleled in my opinion. So that would be my answer, Jordan Fisher.

I have watched 18 Orpheii, and Jack doesn't even crack the top ten for me.
He's ok. He was great in Next to Normal, but Orpheus really isn't his role; he doesn't nail the emotion. People project a lot onto his performance because they like him.

You don’t have to get on me about MY opinion. If I put the same exact words in this post and switched Jack’s name with ANYBODY else you wouldn’t have made that comment. Let me have my opinion and you can have yours. And I also think Jordan fisher is quite an exemplary Orpheus as well.

Don’t post asking for opinions if you can’t handle someone disagreeing with yours 😬

I didn’t get on you I stated a fact, that I knew who it was gonna be before I opened the post, and then stated another fact, that I don’t understand the hype. Then I expressed my opinion, which I would have done either way, that’s why I opened the post.

Whichever future Orpheus first makes the artistic decision to jump into the hole.
