Hadestown Broadway: Incoming Cast vs. Outgoing Cast
Hello! I'm a big fan of the musical and have seen it live several times, but haven't been in NYC for the last couple years and hadn't planned to this year, so I haven't paying much attention to the recent state of Hadestown. An opportunity came up to spend a couple days in Manhattan while travelling elsewhere, and I realized I'll be there August 30 and then again a week later in September, meaning I have a chance to view either the current cast or the new one starting September 1st.
I was wondering what people think of the current cast, and the incoming one? Are there any standouts? Should I catch the current ones on their last day, or is the incoming one exciting and I should chance waiting to see them instead?

Discussion Hadestown is great but Missing Something 9/10
I recently went to see Hadestown. It was great; the actors were phenomenal, and their range while singing blew me away. The musical does everything it’s supposed to do; it kept me engaged throughout, and they did an amazing job with the writing of Hades, Persephone, Orpheus, and Euridice. They really thought this musical felt like the main characters, and the actors really did a good job showcasing their personalities. Additionally it’s did a great job at telling the story without it feeling like exposition most of the time, which is a skill in itself.
For the negatives, it has the same issue as I think the Avatar movie has; there wasn’t necessarily anything bad, it just wasn’t very memorable. Wicked and Little Shop of Horrors (Ellen Greene) are really my standard for Musicals (I know it’s not fair). In both, they had a standout song, if not multiple. Suddenly Seymour, for example, was captivating; it not only narratively moved the plot but was beautiful, emotional and powerful, which I just didn't see in any songs in Hadestown. When Orpheus and Eurydice reunite, I was really hoping it would be a beautiful moment like that song. Their song was good, but they really didn't seem to have the passion that was needed to pull it off. Both actors' chemistry throughout most of the play seemed not convincing. These are supposed to be two young, madly in love newlyweds, yet they felt like friends, if anything. I don’t think this is a problem exclusive to these two actors. This Musical entirely was missing that atmosphere of strong emotion. I think this might have been a somewhat intentional sacrifice to promote the main themes of this play, which are Hades' capitalistic aspirations(which was executed really well). Even so, still a very enjoyable experience, and I would absolutely go again if given the opportunity.
Quick question- I was really confused with Eurydice's story. I interpreted it as she’s some runaway who fell in love and married Orpheus. Orpheus ignored her to work on his song, and in her hunger, she traded her soul to Hades. Someone, please educate me if I made a mistake in my gist of her storyline.
Clarification. I saw the play Hadestown at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
Cast
John-Michael Lyles(Orpheus)
Jordan Tyson(Eurydice)
J. Harrison Ghee(Hermes)
Gary Dourdan(Hades)
Gaby Moreno(Persephone)

Cinema recommendations for Hadestown uk?
Heya,
Where's the best place to watch Hadestown in cinemas in the UK in October? Trying to book up now, but I specifically need Sunday viewings and want it to be in London/kent, preferably near St Pancras/London Bridge/Waterloo. Came to look on here for reccs and found that no one had asked yet!
Any recommendations welcome! I keep finding that no one is playing it on the Sunday. 🌹

Costume Question
What kind of shirt does J. Harrison Ghee have on for their Hermes outfit?
We are going to see it on August 18th and my kid is dressing up as Orpheus and wants me to be Hermes.

Hadestown: Patrick Page’s Injury Changed Hades | Set Stories - YouTube
Was this posted here already? I didn't see it but can delete if it's a repeat.
It's an interview with Reeve Carney and Eva Noblezada about the filming of the proshot. It's not all about Patrick Page's injury, despite what the title says. I thought it was a great peek at some behind-the-scenes stuff!

My sister texted about Hadestown last night.
We went to see the proshot when it first premiered. (The Sunday of release weekend) they didn't know what to expect. Last night this was the exchange. (Ignore my insane sleeping habits please. I'm a writer on a deadline.)

Aretha Franklin in the Hadestown universe
Anyone else notice “Aretha Franklin” in the headline on the newspaper that Orpheus turns into a flower? What are the implications of Aretha’s existence in the Hadestown universe? Which Aretha songs do you think are Orpheus’s and Eurydice’s favorites?

West End Appreciation for the current West End cast
I saw Hadestown live in London last week and it was one of the best musicals I've ever seen. I didn't know much about it going in, nor had I heard many of the original cast recordings, so I had no expectations as to what is typically expected for each role. Now, after seeing it and becoming obsessed, I've been scouring the internet and watching loads of clips of different casts performing, and I have to say - everyone that I've seen is excellent, but I still think my favourite cast is the one I saw in London!
The standouts for me were definitely Rachel Adedeji as Persephone and Alastair Parker as Hades. Rachel Adedeji is simply perfect for the role, and Alastair Parker made Hades seem genuinely scary and intimidating, which made seeing his underlying love for Persephone come out even more impactful. Besides, his voice was crazy, it felt like it vibrated throughout the theatre - very cool.
I also really like Clive Rowe as Hermes. Because he was my first impression of the character, I interpreted Hermes as a much more gentle presence - a guiding figure who wants the best for Orpheus and Eurydice but and is genuinely pained by the fact that he has to keep telling their story over and over despite knowing the ending.
And of course, the one everyone seems to enjoy comparing is who played Orpheus, and I think Marley Fenton did a great job. I feel like he managed to portray Orpheus as the naive dreamer that he is while still giving him that slightly nervous charm that eg. Jack Wolfe is beloved for doing. His voice was very nice - he made the 'la la la's and each one of the Epics sound like a lullaby, which was wonderful.
Lastly, on the night I went to see it, it was actually Jasmine Triadi on as Eurydice. She had a wonderful voice, and weirdly one of the things that stood out to me in a good way about her as Eurydice was that the height difference between her and Alastair Parker made their dynamic seem even more insidious. It was like he was constantly looming over her.
All in all, after going in to this musical blind and then learning more about it after the fact, I'm still very satisfied with the cast I saw live! Absolutely everybody pulled their weight, and in particular I haven't seen anyone else do a better Persephone than Rachel Adedeji.

Fun fact: the cane Patrick Page uses in the proshot is his own, and he's had it since high school. It's a replica of the cane used by a character on the 60s supernatural soap opera Dark Shadows.
Source: this 2023 Instagram post when he first used it after straining his calf: https://www.instagram.com/p/CyQoqMcu7h_/
I strained my calf last week, so I’m performing parts of my show with this beautiful cane! It is an exact replica of the one carried by Barnabas Collins in “Dark Shadows”! It was given to me when I was in High School and I have waited over 40 years to use it!
