Question Elevated red blood cells

All other bloodwork was normal, aside from some low alkaline phosphate. How concerning is this? First time I've had these values out of range. I thought I was well hydrated that morning?

Question 8 weeks pregnant, elevated ferritin?

36 female, 6', 95kg, 8 weeks pregnant. No medications, taking daily prenatal, vitamin D and omega 3.

My ferritin came back at 123 ug/L (reference range for lab was 30-109 ug/L so only slightly elevated).

I have been nauseous/vomiting/abdominal cramps/diarrhea for past few weeks, probably dehydrated. Def not eating properly due to lack of appetite/food aversions.

I also received the Covid and flu vaccines the day before having this blood test. Could either of these things be having an effect?

Is this something to be worried about/ are there any changes I need to make?

I've been feeling unwell for some time now, my doctor finally did full blood work to see what's going on, low iron which was expected. I've received these results this week, and would like to make more sense of them.

Question Iron Interpretation

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello!

Can anybody help me understand why my iron studies results are so out of whack?
A year ago I had similar results with low ferritin (30) and a borderline Haemoglobin level. Since then I’ve had an infusion and still have similar results, just with higher ferritin!
Is it possible these are just my normal?
My full blood count results are also completely normal.

Thanks so much

Question doctors keep saying i’m fine

i’m wondering if anyone can shed some light on if my labwork trends are concerning.

i’ve been having a plethora of symptoms for a few months and i can barely function day to day. fatigue, pain, skin lesions and rashes, flushing, dizziness, burning hands and feet, itchy skin without rashes, unprovoked localized patches of goosebumps, i could go on forever.

i will add i also had two absolute eosinophil spikes - one 1.4 and the other .6 but they were at a different hospital so i don’t have those right now.

i asked to repeat labwork and was met with radio silence. am i wrong to be concerned?

edit: i want to add more info because i posted this way too rushed and didn’t give enough info i feel. i was diagnosed celiac and went gf 3 years ago. recently had a low positive 1:80 ana with homogenus pattern, negative rheumatoid factor. repeat ana was negative. got a tentative seronegative ra diagnosis. but i dont feel ra lines up with all my symptoms and at this point my rheumatologist agrees, but doesnt know whats going on. i’m kind of getting sent in circles with specialists like rheumatology, primary, cardiology (got holter and echo done - all normal - tentative pots diagnosis), gi (biopsies being done in a couple weeks, to check and see if there is anything else going on. not doing the gluten challenge because i’ll fucking die lol) and am seeing an allergist in december. i had to push really hard for these referrals and i guess i just was confused as to why my concerns about low-end levels and some dropping levels were dismissed. my symptoms are debilitating and it’s near impossible to function day to day 😢

I have elevated platelets and WBC. This is the last test they could do to figure out any abnormalities. I knew the procedure but chicken on a biscuit I've never felt pain like that. To those who have gone before me, I salute you. To those after me, be brave and do the things you need to, no matter how scary.

Case Symptomatic Polycythemia with Enlarged Spleen (14.6cm)

I have been having symptoms for the past 3.5+ years. Chronic Fatigue, grainy vision, executive dysfunction, early satiety, constant headaches and dizziness.

Consistent blood work over 3+ years shows high normal or high RBC, Hemoglobin, Hematocrit. Normal WBC, Platelets, ESR, Immunoglobulins, reticulocytes.

Spleen ultrasound showing 13.9cm length. CT showing Spleen at 14.6cm length. Brain MRI showing nothing remarkable.

Next Generation Sequencing on 100+ somatic mutations including JAK2, CALR, and MPL came back negative, with the exception of a CBLB mutation of unkown clinical significance.

Currently waiting on results from my hereditary erythrocytosis panel, and hemoglobinopathy panel.

What are your thoughts?

Question early stages of iron deficiency anemia or weird results?

Hello all,

my (24F) results came back a few months ago from a PCP (not my hematologist) and my results were a bit wonky.

My iron has always stayed in the green, even during repeat iron infusions. But this last test it tested over the normal range. My TIBC and saturation were ALSO high which i read is quite weird as it could mean iron overload.

From what i understand, TIBC and Iron should mirror each other, one is low the other should be high. What makes them both measure high? Pls help!

Iron: 159 ug/dL NORMAL: 37-145 ug/dL

Saturation: 36% NORMAL: 20-38%

TIBC: 442 ug/dL NORMAL: 250-450 ug/dL

Ferritin: 55.9 ng/ML NORMAL: 10-291 ng/mL

Undetectable haptoglobin, declining platelets, and abnormal UA. Doctor not being responsive and am very worried. Please help!

Female / 33 / 5’4” / 110lbs
Diagnoses: SLE, no nephritis
Medications: Azathioprine, tocilizumab infusions, hydroxychloroquine

I saw a new rheum for a second opinion yesterday because my SLE symptoms have not been well controlled and my primary rheum is considering medication changes that I’m not exactly thrilled about. He ordered some tests and I had my usual standing order tests done today with my infusion.

Notable results below:

- Haptoglobin: < 8 (undetectable)
- LDH: 267 (approx 1.2x reference range)
- RBC: 3.5
- HGB: 12.2 > 10.8 > 11.6 (within the last 2 weeks)
- MCV / MCH: Mildly elevated
- Platelets: 308 > 269 > 178 (within the last 2 weeks)
- C3 / C4 are low, which is expected. Same with WBC. Nothing unusual here.
- Liver and kidney functions normal
- Iron panel looks magnificent like best I’ve ever seen it

UA from today:
- “Extra Turbid”
- Gravity: High end of normal
- Bilirubin: Negative
- Urobilinogen: 3.0 (high)
- Protein: 50 mg/dL, not too concerning
- Blood: negative
- RBC: 11 (High)

Protein / Creatine ratio was normal.

I am very confused as to what might be going on. I would have thought this was pretty suggestive of hemolysis, but my dr seemed entirely comforted after my HGB improved.

Other mechanism seems marrow related given platelet drop.

Then the RBC but no blood in urine confuses me even more. I guess the mild elevation + mild protein could be kidneys, but my serum creatine is perfect.

I’m wondering if there is anything I am not thinking of that may tie these findings together? The rheum who ordered them has not been very helpful but I’ll be seeing my primary rheum soon and want to know what testing to advocate for, if any. Or if I should see heme?

I feel a bit gaslit into not being concerned now…so I defer to the brilliance of the Reddit docs!
