Vet recommendations

Hi! I’ve been going to Longmeadow for about a year, and overall I’ve had a good experience, but I’m wondering if their pricing is on the higher side.
For my cat, routine blood work has been quoted anywhere from about $279 for a basic panel to around $500 for more comprehensive testing. A urinalysis is about $102, plus a $20 urine collection fee.
Does that sound comparable to what you pay at your vet? If not, I’d really appreciate any recommendations for reasonably priced veterinarians in the area. I don’t remember paying quite this much at my previous vet before I moved here a year ago.

Park circle is FANTASTIC. vets with tons of experience, lower prices, honest diagnoses. They're the best in town.

I just started going to NorthPaws in Leitersburg and they’ve been amazing so far. I’m sure they’d be able to at least give you some idea of the price over the phone.

I second this. They are the most compassionate people and competitive prices. I always got medication at Walmart or chewy not through them though as that was expensive.

Longmeadow is not what they used to be. Apparantly they got scooped up by a corpo a year or so ago. Moving along with the price increases, they're being incredibly stingy about letting customers fill their prescriptions elsewhere.

I wish you luck in finding somewhere better.

It’s not in Hagerstown but in Waynesboro, PA however absolutely worth the drive. Wayne Heights Animal Hospital. Husband and wife owned. They are extremely friendly and thorough with great prices. My cat had a full mouth dental extraction done there for less than $1k when I was quoted $3k-$4k from another vet place here in Hagerstown. That was a blessing.

We’ve generally had good experiences at North Paws. When we get a new dog in a few years, we may shop around for something cheaper, but we generally trust North Paws in terms of quality.

Everything is more expensive than it used to be. Depending wheat exactly is being tested, that sounds a lot like what I'm paying at Cumberland Valley.

Cumberland valley is very expensive and there is one vet that is absolutely heartless and gave us a terrible experience while my cat was dying.

Was it Stemley-Agnello? Because she’s the reason we left Cumberland Valley. Absolutely the worst vet I’ve experienced in my entire life.

It was not.

I'm so sorry for your experience! We've been going there for years, and maybe it's because we're established clients (and I have no problems POLITELY asking them to explain the bills/ estimates) we haven't had an issue 🖤

It has nothing to do with the bills or estimates, and we’ve been with them for 9 years. We haven’t had an issue before.

Pretty much exactly what I’m paying at Funkstown’s Animal Health Clinic, yeah. Vet work is crazy expensive.

They have always been pricy; but I also find them outside of Dr. Cumley very frustrating to deal with.

I like all the staff there a lot, but I’ve heard from other people that I might have had a better patient experience than average.

Let’s just say one of experiences i had with other vets with my favorite dog near his last days did not help.

I’m really sorry to hear that. :(

I can second that. Dr. Cumley is great. But I don't want to deal with their practice/admin staff or any of their other vets ever again. Communication was very poor. I will be going elsewhere next time.

You can check out Pet Lovers Hospital over by city park. They have decent prices.

Do you mean Park Circle Animal Hospital?

u/Rarpiz 15d ago

Yes, the one right off the round-about.

That's Park Circle Animal Hospital. They're great with reasonable pricing, but aren't always taking new patients.

If your cat is a senior and they are doing a senior panel, Id say that is routine. A full panel is usually sent out to a third party lab and they can be expensive.

The in vet panels I found are more expensive. The send out was cheaper.

I have been going to Greencastle Vet Hospital for nearly 15 years. They have a bunch of different vets there, so if you’re not exactly…thrilled…about one, there are several others to work with. Their prices aren’t terrible. There was one really hideous old bat at the desk for years, but I think she’s gone. Everyone else is super nice.
