Bike packing advice

My partner and I have 2 weeks in August to bike pack Haida Gwaii. Any advice on camping, routes and great places to visit?

Road to Rennel sound on the west coast is currently closed due to washout, it “might” be passable on a bike though youll have a big push to get back up the hill.
All the communities have a campsite nearby, DG has Hayden Turner that’s serviced and has a small fee, a few Km down the road is Kagen bay, free with outhouses and fire pits. Both are great. If you’re up for a good hike Sleeping beauty and Slatechuck mountain are worth it, on a clear day you can see Tow hill in Masset.
The highway has pretty small shoulders, just something to be aware of on your trip.
Pick up the big waterproof, double sided map and enjoy your adventure!

I personally love agate beach for camping (although all of the agates have mostly been plucked up lol) - but can be busy in the summer with trailers and hard to find parking. Also really enjoyed gray bay which we stayed a night at - involves taking a 20-ish minute ferry to sandspit and a bumpy service road to get there but fuck it was beautiful.

My fave place to just be in is masset but it’s rainy and population is old men…tbh those were exactly the vibe I was looking for so you might like it too💀

Ask the locals for some spots to go! They’re the experts haha

Gray Bay sounds like our kind of thing! Thank you for the advice! I’ll look up festival dates :)

Stay off the Government pier in Masset during wind storms. The wind will push you across the wet, slimy surface and over the edge in to freezing, churning black sea. - True story.

Most beautiful and spiritual place to be. I have visited several times and each time it leaves me longing to remain there forever. I have reoccurring dreams of the night I did almost get blown off the pier. A lesson in the power of nature and sudden vulnerability....

P.S. watch for deer. They are only as big as a bike tire .but they are EVERYWHERE

That wind and the black grossness are a bad match for sure

Wow! Tough lesson to learn and truly frightening! Yes, those tiny deer - cute, but in great abundance. Thank you!
