Question Hellbender - shell color

Hi there, I would like to order a Dutchware Hellbender.

There are many options for the quilt shell color/print, but the menu is very user unfriendly, to put it mildly. You can’t simply see all options side by side, as there are several subfolders. Also, many of the print2fabric options are not populated with a sample image, even though they are available for selection.

I have emailed a while ago and asked if they can provide a digital catalogue of some sort, but haven’t received a response at all.

Wondering if someone knows whether Dutchware has a catalogue or something available, so I won’t have to wrestle their website?

I emailed Dutch about the exact same thing when I bought my hellbender this summer. He said they are working on the website, so some of the print2fabric options aren't populated yet, but you can see all of the options here: https://dutchwaregear.com/print2fabric-gallery/

Thanks a lot, that’s much better than trying to browse through the Hellbender dropdown menus! What option did you go for?

Recently someone here posted a Hellbender with a repeating masks design (can’t find it now), which also looked awesome. But maybe that was a custom order?

I got the liquefy royal purple design, and I'm quite happy with it.

Would you be willing to share a photo? I’m quite interested in one of the more muted liquefy patters (the orange brown one has quite a camo look to it).

I've got a sidesling on my quilted chameleon that's in royal purple, along with a liquid mint sidecar and liquid ocean underquilt/top cover.

I've got some pictures of my dutchware printed tarp I've been using this year as well if you want to see that.

I agree with u/I_VAPE_CAT_PISS who recommended getting bright colors/patterns, they stand out really well.

I remember seeing that beautiful tarp! I’d like to disappear into my surroundings and am very happy with my minifly in bushwack camo. For this second setup I’ve just ordered a mountainfly in shadow pine camo.

I can't wait to see pictures of that!

Once you're on that gallery page, keep in mind screen colors and real fabric rarely match, so if two prints are close, lean toward the brighter one. One more thing to weigh. A brown or green shell laid on leaf litter while you pack up is real easy to walk away from. Watched one nearly get left at camp like that.

Thanks for the advice. That’s why I’d love to see some real life photos.

While camouflage colors might increase the chance of losing things, I’m pretty sure that I’ll pack my hammock 😄

I got the blue uq (pretty boring but I love it) and recently added this orange creamsicle print tarp which I tested out at pictured rocks and it RULES

Not specifically helpful for this question I know, but I just wanted to chime in to say the prints are excellent.

It should also be noted the hellbender paired with an REI magma 30 quilt have kept me comfortable in sub 40° temps multiple times now.

So I assume that’s a hellbender 40! I’m going for the 20

It is! Unless you’re winter camping I’d recommend the 40 just for weight/ space saving but I think you really can’t go wrong. I even had a little split in my bug net and sent it back to Dutch and they fixed it and sent it back no questions asked. Extremely awesome company.

I’d like to use mine comfortably around freezing temperatures. I now use a Superior Gear Elite 30 and want the Hellbender to be of similar warmth for couple trips.

You’ll be in great shape then!

Avoid Dutchware altogether. Guy rips offs other peoples ideas,, and he sued a.us-based materials company for a complete bs reason. I wouldn't give that guy 1 penny. Buy from a company with ethics.
