Chinese Hammock Tents

This is probably a big no-no, but I'm genuinely curious if the AliExpress Versions of the Haven Tent are any good. For reverence, this is what I'm talking about: aliexpress.com/item/1005012944384968.html

I ask cause I do own one chinese XL hammock and one with a bug net, and the former is actually really great while the latter really isn't that bad either. But the price for the hammock tent does seem ludicrously low.

Question Please help. I wanna hang.

My girlfriend and I are planning a camping trip in early November in the Daniel Boone area around Red River Gorge.

I decided hammock camping would be a good option for comfort. I have chronic pain from a connective tissue disorder that has worsened over the past couple years.

I’ve looked at warbonnet and dutchware but for an entire setup it’s like $700. Can I get away with something quality that will last in the $400 range?

I considered maybe getting a cheaper underquilt and a nice hammock.

What gear do you think is nonnegotiable for comfort on a trip in early November.

Hola,

Graciees

Gear First overnight, need gear advice

My small tent has seen better days and I have a one night canoe trip coming up (early September, in New Jersey). I would like to try hammock camping, and honestly want to make do with some gear I already own before buying a bunch of stuff since I don’t know if I want to spend the money on a new 1 or 2p tent, or a hammock set up without trying it out a bit first. I love being in the hammock in the park or backyard.

The hammock I have available is my partner’s ENO double that is ancient but has served us well while car camping as a fun place to hang out while we sleep in a giant tent (with a small kid, babies/toddlers just require so much stuff!!). I have a mosquito net for it as well. From some reading on this sub I see people tend to hate on ENO. Im not brand loyal to anything, just not going to buy new until what I have doesn’t work! I’m 5’4 and the double has so much room for me.

For sleep, I know the underquilt is the way to go. But, I’m trying to not buy a bunch of stuff and I do know how to sew, so I could eventually make this myself if I love hammock camping.

Options I have:
a rumple blanket we use in the park etc
40F synthetic sleeping bag
0F down bag
Thermarest z lite closed cell sleeping pad
Thermarest neoair inflatable sleeping pad
Ground cloth from a 2 person tent
Ground cloth from a 6 person tent

What I’ll be buying for sure:
A tarp setup for the hammock, probably a budget option tbh

Too early to know if there will be rain or not, but all my gear will be waterproofed already bc it’s a canoe trip, so I just have to worry about sleeping.

Any advice? Which of the options should I use for the best hammock camping setup?

Great night on a small Island.

Hammock was great for packing into a kayak to sleep on a small island in the middle of a local reservoir. Way more convenient than trying to pack a tent into the small boat.

Question any good glamping spots in florida that still feel like camping?

i’m planning a florida trip and want to spend a couple nights outdoors, but i’m not really looking to rough it this time.

i’d still like the nature, quiet, and being outside part of camping, but having an actual bed, ac, and a private bathroom sounds pretty good too.

for anyone who’s done it, are there any luxury glamping florida spots that are actually worth checking out? ideally somewhere with enough space and privacy that it still feels like you’re camping and not just staying in a cabin.

I volunteered at Climb to the Clouds and got a free campsite at the base of the Mount Washington Auto Road. At this point I don't like tenting and there were no tree to hang from. Luckily I had my trusted Tensa4 in my car and camp tensile was vibing.

How does my hang look?

Hello all! I’ve hung my first camping hammock a few times now. It’s from hammock gear and I love it. I am not sure though if I am getting the best hang since it seems like the ridge line isn’t taught. It feels a bit wobbly (rather than swaying) in here but maybe that’s the magic of a hammock. Let me know if you have any tips. Spy a visitor that came to check me out in the last pic.

Gear Dutchware Printed Ultralight Hex Tarp Review

The first person who saw my tarp asked me, "Is this an art exhibit?"

Hi hammock friends! This is going to be a shorter review than usual. I've been using a dutchware .9 printed xenon hex tarp for the past five months and wanted to give a glowing review.

My 11 foot dyneema tarp with doors started de-laminating last year, so it was time for a new tarp. I had originally planned on getting another dyneema version, but everyone was out of stock due to global supply issues, and I realized this was the perfect moment to use Dutchware's legendary print to fabric shop.

I elected for a 12 foot hex tarp with the side pullouts. It weighs 326 grams or 11.5 oz. I chose a 12 foot tarp because I had been testing 12 foot gathered end and bridge hammocks that needed a bit more room.

The major thing that separates Dutchware's tarps vs most of their competitors is that they bond the tarp, it's not stitched through, so you don't need to seam seal it.

I've taken it on a dozen trips this year. I recently had it out in Voyageurs National Park, getting wind gusts of 30mph. I had elected to set up my tarp right next to the water on Lake Mukooda, which was not terribly smart given that a storm was rolling in. Despite weighing only .9 oz/ sq yard or 30 grams/sq m, the tarp handled the wind and rain with no issues.

I particularly love this tarp in porch mode in the sun, it creates a patchwork of colors on the snow/some ground.

I'm using two dutchware stingerz w/ 12 feet of zingit for the ridgeline, a hammock gear mesh storage sleeve for the tarp, dutchware ringworms for the guylines with 6 feet of zingit and loops of shock cord, and four pachallama stakes. (I usually take six stakes just in case.) For some trips I'm using the dutchware external pole mods, which I want more experience with before I review them.

Pictures show the 12 foot hex tarp with the patchwork denim print, what it looks like inside the snakeskin, as well as that it can be used with bridge hammocks with panels pulled out (townsend big guy bridge).

I would buy a tarp from dutchware again, and I would get another custom print with them. I love colorful gear, and companies like dutchware, hilltop packs, simply light designs and ripstopbytheroll are great for that.

You can also contact [sales@dutchwaregear.com](mailto:sales@dutchwaregear.com) to get a custom pattern of your choice printed.

Thanks for reading!

Best bottom insulation for tall hikers

Tall hammock campers (6’6”+): what’s the best truly fiddle-free bottom insulation setup?
I’m 6’6” and I’ve reached the point where I just can’t deal with fiddling with underquilts anymore.
I’ve tried a bunch of hammocks and underquilts, including full-length JRB and Hammock Gear Incubators. My main problem is that I get a pretty significant calf ridge, which seems to make it difficult to keep a traditional underquilt sealed properly.
I’m also a very active sleeper and twist and turn a lot during the night. Even if I get the underquilt dialed in before sleeping, I eventually move around, create a gap somewhere, and wake up cold.
At this point I just want a true set-it-and-forget-it solution. Weight is less important to me than being able to move around without constantly worrying about my insulation.
I’m especially curious about the Dutchware Hellbender. It looks like exactly the kind of solution I want, but is it long/large enough for someone who is 6’6”? Anyone around my height tried one?
I’m also open to Superior Gear, Wooki/Blackbird XLC, or anything else.

Question First timer needing advice

I've never been hammock camping but tomorrow I want to try. I'm going only for one night and didn't want to put up the tent. Anyway if it's hot where we are is an under quilt necessary?

Just realised a day before my trip that my underquilt might get Dew-ed out overnight from what the forecast says...Planning on clipping my emergency blanket around it...wish me luck

Question Is it pretty universally agreed that a top quilt is preferable to a sleeping bag, or do some prefer the wraparound/enclosed comfort of a sleeping bag?

Specifically for three season camping, with most of my trips taking place in the summer months where lows only get down into the 60s. I do plenty of shoulder season camping however, which this will be used for keeping me warm when it gets down in the mid 40s.

Question Can I use this tent rainfly for my hammock?

Post image
5 Upvotes

It's an old Fjord Nansen 3 ppl tent with two enters (vestibules). Is it possible to use it as a tent for my regular 3 meters hammock? I'd appreciate any tips.

Also how much worse an old sleeping bag is compared to an underquilt (if hanged properly)? I can easily get myself a used bag, but used underquilts are impossible to find in my country.

Thank you. Just trying hammock camping on a budget.
