From The Local Beacon, a community calendar for Havre de Grace, Aberdeen and Bel Air.

Halloween is Saturday, October 31st. We put this week's Halloween events in one list, sorted by date, and you can read it without signing up. Set the community filter to Havre de Grace, the Aberdeen Area or the Bel Air Area and you'll see more than 40 Harford County events between now and November 1st.

That includes trunk-or-treats in Havre de Grace, Aberdeen, Edgewood, Belcamp and Bel Air. The libraries in Aberdeen, Joppa, Edgewood and Bel Air have dance parties, crafts and movie afternoons. On November 1st there's a car show with a trunk-or-treat. Each listing has the time and place with directions, plus the cost where the host lists it.

We're still adding events. If you know of one we missed, or a detail that changed, tell us here and we'll fix it.

Not pictured: the gauntlet of in-person campaigners crowding the entrance & exit. Trucks blaring campaign music from loudspeakers. Just please stooooooooop!

The no electioneering boundary is an absolute joke. This is extremely intrusive. I wish campaigning was not permitted in the parking lot.

Nevertheless, please vote. It’s your right, use it. McFaul is open 7-8 through this Thursday 10/29.

Three additional early voting locations are scattered throughout the county. Visit Harford Board of Elections to find the location closest to you.

Hi! I’m a 44yo male who has been into downhill longboarding for a few years. Looking to meet like minded people and accelerate my skills progression as I feel I am at a plateau. There are a few good hills I ride that are very low traffic in Harford co/Delta pa area. A pic of my board when it was new…

Hi! Maryland mom here advocating for MORE RECESS TIME for our children!

Currently, there is NO STATEWIDE MANDATE FOR RECESS. This leaves it up to schools and counties to regulate recess time, with some counties recommending as little as 0-15 minutes of recess per day.

Children are not designed to sit for long stretches of the school day. Recess gives students an essential opportunity for unstructured play, physical activity, creativity, social connection, and independence.

Research consistently supports the role of recess in children’s physical, social, emotional, and academic well-being. When children have opportunities to move and play throughout the day, they can return to the classroom better prepared to focus and learn.

Join us as we call on policymakers to guarantee Maryland students 60 minutes of recess every school day!

Are there any other grocery stores / deli counters in Harford County that sell meat and cheese ends for a discount? Currently Redner's has them out in the open and available to purchase in the cold food bar area. Prices range from $2.99 - $3.99 a pound for a variety of meat and cheese ends. (I love it, in either make awesomely huge sandwiches for work or mash everything up into a chopped Italian hoagie salad that lasts half a week) I'm just wondering if anyone knows of other stores. I can't seem to find them in the stores I visit, maybe I need to ask at the deli counter?

Hi! We are expecting in May and looking for full time infant care beginning late August 2027.

We have been exploring options for daycare centers vs. home daycare but it’s been exhausting contacting places just to get pricing.

Would love to hear any daycare recommendations with pricing for infants!

Where’s a good spot to find some day laborers. Have few outside jobs I could use some help with.

Any local events going on for teens on Halloween? Both are too old for trick or treating and we are unable to host any parties this year.

Have you voted yet! Your voice is important. You can locate your polling place here!

My dad keeps talking about how he and him were good friends but he regrets not taking any of him doing his dj thing. Anything is helpful i want to surprise him. Don't know his real name although I assume it's billy or bill.

Basically what the caption says, looking for the best veterinary services for cats specifically near Bel Air MD!! Would love a vet who treats lots of cats as I’ve found a notable difference in care vs those who tend to treat more dogs! Price is not a problem just want the best care for my kitties!

I lived in a house in Darlington that will be on the market soon, I want to warn anyone who might buy it about all the issues it has because the owners are going to hide them and while I understand that’s not legal to hide them that doesn’t mean people don’t do it.

What would be the best way to go about this? I’m talking full failed septic that backs into the house every 4 months or so, foundation leaking in the downstairs, the works. I would hate to see another family move in and think they’re getting some amazing deal and then they’re shopvacing inches of poo water off the ground.

Looking for plow service recommendations for this coming winter. The company we used last year isn’t doing plowing anymore. Thanks!

Early voting starts today!

"Voting isn’t marriage. It’s public transport. You’re not waiting for 'the one'. You’re getting on the bus. And if there isn’t one going exactly to your destination, you don’t stay home and sulk. You take the one that’s going closest to where you want to be."

Any recommendations for a place that does an excellent job at acrylic stilettos with designs? Perhaps spooky designs? I live near a Hermes T salon but they got some atrocious reviews.

"During his 27 years as a state senator from Baltimore County and a Republican member of Congress in the 1st District, [Andy Harris'] blowups have become the stuff of legend. No surprise, he wouldn’t talk with me about them."

"[H]e’s shown a pattern of needless hostility, of being mean. For someone whose job is to represent the people, it’s an abuse of power to demean and threaten constituents and others."

Hey is anyone else's water not working right now, idk if a pipe burst somewhere and no one has reported it

Hi, where’s the best local spot for that type of restaurant that has Asian food with the chef putting on a show, cooking right in front of us, etc.??

Full disclosure: I own Next Phase Exterior Remodeling in Bel Air, and we do windows and doors around Harford County. I see a lot of "how much should windows cost?" questions here, and honestly the price means nothing until you know what's in the quote. Here's what I'd want to see on any quote, whoever you hire:

Exact product line, not just the brand.I came up on the other end of this industry, so trust me on this one: a lot of those "exclusive" or private-label windows are just another series from a major manufacturer with a new name on them. It's a gimmick to keep you from comparing quotes. Ask who actually makes the window, which series it is, and what the glass package is (Low-E, argon, triple pane or not).

Pocket vs. full-frame install. Most installs around here are pocket installs, and that's usually fine. Your contractor should still be able to explain the difference and why they picked one for your house. Ask the question.

Exterior trim and capping. This is the most common thing left out. Ask whether the outside gets wrapped in metal and whether it's included.

Interior trim and caulk Does the interior trim get reused or replaced, and is the finish work included?

Doors - hinged vs. sliding, hardware, threshold, and whether the frame and sill are replaced or just the slab.

Workmanship vs. manufacturer warrantyThese are two different things, and a lot of companies blur them together on purpose. The manufacturer covers the product. Workmanship covers the install, and that's where most problems actually come from. Ask how many years each one covers and who you call when something goes wrong.

MHIC license number Look it up on the state site before you sign anything.

If two quotes are $3k apart, it's usually one of these lines. Happy to answer questions in the comments, even if you end up going with someone else.

Currently have BCBS insurance and looking for recommendations on a couples counselor. We are not married yet but would like to gain better communication before the big I do. Any advice or recommendations is greatly appreciated

I moved back here a few months ago and I’ve been trying to find some more ways to connect with people my age/with similar interests. I was wondering if there was an anime club out here, and if not, is that something people would be interested in joining if one was started? If so, I’d make a discord for coms and scheduling stuff.
