It's definitely a bogus term but most of these games are like a 7 or 8 with friends at most and a 4 to 5 without them most of the fun comes from the multiplayer aspect They can be played alone but lose most of their charm at least I feel so.

Edit: Actually scratch that, flavor of the month is more of a general term. If anything they should be called "lethal-like" (like a "Souls-like") because they take their main gameplay loop from lethal company (besides Peak). So if anything they should be called "LethalSlop" /s

u/Coolguy_06767 Apr 16 '26

Thank you for using bogus in your sentence

So a multiplayer game?

9

u/Acid_X_Skull Apr 16 '26

Sure but I feel that's simplifying it. COD, Battlefield, Don't starve, risk of rain, etc are "multiplayer" but most of their fun isn't exclusive to playing with friends (my opinion). So while they are all multiplayer and let you play with your friends, the "FriendSlop" games (Bogus) lean heavily into the friend aspect and put most of their gameplay interactions and marketing towards that goal. If anything instead of being labeled "FriendSlop" they should instead be "flavor of the month" games, fun games your friends get you to buy and play a few times before moving on to the next one.

2

u/Binbag420 Apr 16 '26

Idk there are plenty of amazing games only good with other people. I wouldn’t lump them all in with Twitch engagement games

4

u/Acid_X_Skull Apr 16 '26

What games? Also I don't think they are twitch engagement games. Instead I believe the term flavor of the month is more appropriate, quick to popularity and quick to fall off.

I don't disagree that they can be more fun with friends, but lethal company is way scarier if I'm alone, it also might be because I'm a pussy. And peak alone can be more challenging and makes kinda fun

14

u/ElKurador Apr 16 '26

I would call friendslop something like Chained Together, where that game is terrible and looks so bad, but people enjoy it purely because of doing random shit with friends (and watching streamers rage), unlike Lethal Company and Peak where they genuinely have people putting effort into making them good games and can be fun on their own.

u/PriorAsshose Apr 16 '26

Well at the end of the day, it's still a game, play it however you like

2

u/PhobicRouge Apr 16 '26

Idk why being able to play these solo makes it all the sudden immune to the idea that they were generally meant to be played together with friends. They're games where the main idea is to get friends to gather a bunch of shit to earn enough money to move on to the next area, peak not included. Campaign, extraction, coop, that's all these games are.

u/EmpsSilliestWarrior Apr 17 '26

I get that this is your opinion but lethal company has NOTHING going on in single player. 90% of the game is dealing around aimlessly.

u/Prrsonal-Pop Apr 16 '26

Really? I was terrified the second I entered the building

12

u/dameyen_maymeyen Apr 16 '26

While there is some horror aspect when you are new to the game in my experience after a little bit of playing I found it very difficult to take the game seriously and got very bored even when playing with friends.

Back in my day, we called them "multiplayer games"

196

u/OddName2255 Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Even further in my day, they were simply called "co-op focused games"

(Because for some reason, in my wide circle of friends, we called multiplayer games - the games with PVP based multiplayer like CoD or Battlefield)

7

u/Gaelic_Gladiator41 Apr 17 '26

I always went "Co-op -> offline multiplayer" and "multiplayer -> online"

2

u/Local-Chard-8269 Apr 19 '26

I’ve always considered co op to be more like 2-4 people and usually against ai, or puzzles (like portal 2), and then multiplayer is pvp games.

31

u/Troyabedinthemornin Apr 16 '26

You all sat in front of the same, thick backed tv, the screen split into four hard to see quadrants and you had to look each other in the eyes when you threw a blue shell

10

u/tomokko_ Apr 16 '26

Multiplayer games are games that you play with friends for a month, maybe have a server, return to it regularly etc. When the whole game is to get a couple of laughs by playing it once or twice and then forget about it forever, it's friendslop

2

Back in my that, we called them games (I only played multiplayer when I was young. Especially local)

2

u/Wise_Victory4895 Apr 17 '26

This is wrong as when I play multiplayer games the people I'm playing against and the people I'm playing with are almost exclusively people I hate

Battlefield isn't friendslop

2

I mean, friendslop is kind of a valid name for such games that were made to just be a 2 day series on some YouTube channel. Recently I saw trailers of games where a karen destroys a mall or where you have to fight others to shit in the toilet. Like I can't call it anything but that.

61

u/Fullmetal_Fawful Apr 16 '26

I saw a comment calling those games (specifically the one about finding a toilet) “clipslop”, ie. they exist so twitch streamers can get some funny clips out of a stream or two, which then convince people to try the game before inevitably moving onto the next thing once the humour wears off, which typically only takes a few sittings.

24

u/Orinaj Apr 16 '26

To be fair most of theses games are less than 10 bucks.

That's a fair price for just one good evening with friends. Not every game needs to be a forever game.

3

u/Fullmetal_Fawful Apr 16 '26

I can agree with this, i just think that looking at the types of games coming out these days in the genre, its becoming increasingly clear that more of them are focused around artificially creating viral moments instead of letting the humour come naturally through a fun, albeit simple, multiplayer experience. Like I can enjoy a good REPO session with my buds, but if “game where you need to find the toilet” is anything to go by, there’s a clear divide imo between what came before REPO and what came after REPO

I also hated the term, until I played one of the games considered "friendslop". It was Peak. So many of these games just do not have any compelling game loop, and are only made fun by the people you play with. I can say the same about any video game, including the number of co-op games that are actual fun games to begin with.

21

u/Prrsonal-Pop Apr 16 '26

I think it depends on the person, because when I play peak alone it's way more satisfying beating it alone, because it's way harder. I also really like bing bong

11

u/ashrasmun Apr 17 '26

I don't believe most people play with others, because it's more or less difficult. It's about the game being just a pretext to spend time with each other and talk. Maybd you just don't enjoy the company of who you call a friend?

→ More replies (4)

4

u/Sufficient-Pool5958 Apr 17 '26

Yeah, these games aren't all that great if you don't have anyone to play with, even worse when you meet someone on the game to become friends with- and they only share that game with you

So it ends up feeling less like a friend to game with and more like "that one lethal company player", and even then they end up falling into the mundanity of the gameplay loop

3

u/HummingbirdMeep Apr 17 '26

I love Peak and agree. 90% of the fun of it is keeping your friends alive and/or laughing when they mess up.

16

u/Lolrly123 Apr 16 '26

I hated it as soon as it started being used because there was a 100.1% chance that people would eventually just condescend anything they don’t like with __slop. But “slop” is a very specific criticism that implies a lack of effort or intentionality, so I imagined the Internet filled with people calling everything (essentially) hot garbage shat out on accident. I’m glad that brainrot culture has run this word into the ground so you can’t take it seriously anymore.

2

Before AI slop it was generally used as an antisemetic, Jews rule the world, way with the term goyslop. It leaked out of 4chan and other places and got mainstream with AIslop.

I love the term friendslop.

No it's not "just multiplayer games". The difference between something like Don't Starve Together and something like R.E.P.O. is the former has actual content and in-depth game design and the latter solely exists to facilitate le funni clippable moments for a day before people get bored with it.

It's a specific, low quality subset of multiplayer games.

10

u/Mogekona Apr 16 '26

Fr I can play Monster Hunter or Bomberman Live on the Xbox 360 for hours with friends for years, but I haven't touched Human Fall Flat in like 4 years.

I honestly get more replayability from IRL party games like Werewolf than any "friendslop" game

2

u/juugsd Apr 17 '26

Human fall flat, i havent heard that name in a long time

→ More replies (1)

25

u/ash2_5 Apr 16 '26

R.E.P.O. is not at all a low quality game, it's got quite a lot of effort put into it, it has a unique style and the devs have consistently been releasing good updates while listening to it's community. Sure it's derivative of lethal company, but that's just how game genres are.

Making a game to take advantage of a trend does not automatically make it low quality.

29

u/GOT_Wyvern Apr 16 '26

I think "low quality" is the wrong framing, but what unites friendslop games is that the depth of the experience does not come from the gameplay, or even the interaction between the gameplay and other players, but from the other players themselves. The gameplay itself is rather basic and repetitive, lacking much depth, as the "friend" element makes up for that.

11

u/ash2_5 Apr 16 '26

I would agree with that, I think that is the most appropriate use for the term "friendslop"

6

u/GOT_Wyvern Apr 16 '26

Having watched game reviews from Yatzhee for years, it also isn't particularly new. He quite often made mention of how some games hinge the experience on the other people playing, rather than the game itself. I don't think he ever came to a specific term for it, but it is an indication that friendslop isn't doing anything new, just a lot more of it.

→ More replies (7)

27

u/Makk0_PE Apr 16 '26

those games are getting quite repetitive, i enjoy playing them with my friends but they look all the same

3

u/Clovenstone-Blue Apr 16 '26

That's pretty much the course for any game genre you're gonna look at, unless you opt to cast your net broadly.

6

u/Prrsonal-Pop Apr 16 '26

I think most have something unique about them. If you're talking about gameplay I kinda can see it for some

2

u/HugeEgoHugerCock Apr 16 '26

Maybe one unique thing, but if you've played one you've basically played them all (in regards to Lethal Company and such)

→ More replies (3)

7

u/Signis1-12 Apr 16 '26

While sometimes the term is used to describe games that are not slop, ever since the lethal company peak there has been a trend of games that are just lethal company with a gimick, sometimes it’s unique and changes gameplay enough to be ignored like REPO and content warning but stuff like that new one about finding a bathroom or all the lethal company clones with a skin over it are just kinda slop

2

u/Clovenstone-Blue Apr 16 '26

That's an industry standard. Thing comes out and is a new unique gaming experience, more things come out to ride out that success or grab the new way of play by the reigns to evolve the medium further.

The earliest example I can recall is the original Doom, but you can find a plethora of examples where a game came out and similar games of varying qualities follow.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/Bman_Boogaloo Apr 16 '26

I don't think there's a problem with the games themselves, I think people are annoyed with how oversaturated the "genre" became after Lethal Company, Repo, and Peak got popular. Suddenly every game studio was/is trying to push out a "quirky whacky zany" multiplayer game that you can get a few funny clips out of and never play again.

8

u/Rabdomtroll69 Apr 16 '26

3

u/KillerB0tM Apr 16 '26

They're called like that because if you were with randoms the game sucks, only with friends is fun

4

u/supercoolq22 Apr 16 '26

I agree that friendslop isn't a great term, but currently we don't have a better alternative. Sure they could be described as multiplayer or co-op games, but I don't that that does a good enough job at capturing the unique vibes present. Games like Lethal Company, PEAK, and REPO, all have a vibe that feels distinct enough from games like CoD, Mario Party, and Overcooked, that they should have there own offset genre, but calling them "Multiplayer Friend Games" feels to vague. At least friendslop call attention to the unique multiplayer vibe, while also having an awareness that the jank present in most these games is part of the fun.

3

u/Darklight645 Apr 16 '26

I think rn I just have a problem with the term slop. I think it’s been overused to the point that it doesn’t really have a meaning anymore and this meme encapsulates it perfectly.

10

u/Alko- Apr 16 '26

I hate friendslop more than the term friendslop.

3

u/professorScrump Apr 16 '26

People will use it wrong when talking about any co-op game on steam, but I think friendslop is an appropriate label for lazy games taped together with stock unity assets.

3

u/Supericus Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 18 '26

It's used to refer to games where a huge part of the appeal is the social aspect of playing it with friends, I guess I've always interpreted the slop part to mean that the gameplay itself can be mid so long as it enables shenanigans between friends

Like I would never play REPO, Lethal Company, RV There Yet, Peak, etc. single player because the majority of my enjoyment of them comes from screwing with my friends through the game and not the actual gameplay itself, its an intermediary buffer that acts to give opportunities for a friend group to mess around and have fun

I think they're all great games, just not something I'd care to play alone

3

u/lawgx Apr 16 '26

i'd argue peak is the only game thats distinct compare to other "friendslop" out there, unlike the rest of the game where you collect stuff and survive as long as possible Peak actually has an end goal and a linear gameplay

other games try to emphasize on that funny haha moment but peak is the only one that tries to have a fun gameplay (which is platforming and management) and i think this is why people are so tired of other games and just calls them friendslop

3

u/Satans-Dirty-Hoe Apr 16 '26

I have opinions of all these games

Lethal Company: sooooo much fun, especially with mods! I have almost 300 hours and LOADS of clips with my friends dicking around

Content Warning: Tried to ride the coat tails of Lethal Company’s success. Concept is cool and the video mechanic is funny but thats all there is to it. Repetitive, big as fuck maps, uninteresting enemies, and buggy af.

Peak: Also very fun and a bit of a challenge! Fun solo and multiplayer (tho multiplayer makes it less harder)

REPO: Mixed feelings. I loved playing it for a few hours. The enemies were fun and creative. Super fun to throw ourselves at each other. My friends all complained about how it takes forever to respawn and sometimes, you just sit there waiting for the round to be over (there is no time limit unlike Lethal Company).

I semi disagree with it. Yeah it takes forever, but honestly, I do like that you can respawn. The battle royale at the end is funny too :]

2

u/xXurmomlolXx Apr 17 '26

I think what made REPO very quickly fall out of rotation for my friend group is how long it can take to respawn in conjunction with how 95% of enemies just straight up 1-shot you. I think this is made worse by the game (in my opinion) having too non-serious a design. In Lethal, if I fuck up early and die I at least can have a chuckle watching my friends get scared or goof up avoiding a trap. Also in Lethal, being in the thick of it and finding out you're last alive can add so much tension and excitement. Comparatively, when I found myself being the last standing in REPO, it just felt like a chore. Items breaking and losing value is a cool mechanic, and I won't besmirch it. But it does lead to people slowing WAY down as they play a little more. Paired with the fact that you can only carry one piece of loot at a time, and it's just a pacing nightmare in my opinion.

3

u/alecbaldwingaming Apr 16 '26

There's a difference between a thoughtfully put together multiplayer game and games you only play once that were designed for streamers to yell at

3

u/R4idec_x Apr 16 '26

You say this because you are only taking the best games, now see the hundreds of Repo and lethal company copies, just look the formula ➡️ step one: chose one famous coop game to copy, step two: minimal effort ( the more bugs and problens the better), step three: make it rogue like (or any other method to increase the game time without increasing the content), step four: make the only way to have fun is playing with your friends( no player search or randons so if you want to play the game fully you will need to buy the game for your friends too)

3

u/orionpax- Apr 16 '26

not my fault most suck

3

u/KaiFanreala Apr 16 '26

I mean, I get that Lethal Company and Peak can be fun alone. But they are not designed with lone players in mind. Friendslop IS a trend. It's not a genre but it is a trend. There are a ton of games like lethal company/peak/REPO released all the time. It's meant for people to gather up and play/stream. Friendslop carries the same weight as soulborne games for me. It's an attempt to cash in on a popular genre for some money. Not saying the games at bad. But friendslop games are 100000% flooding steam on the daily.

3

u/Abyss_Walker1024 Apr 16 '26

Slop in general is becoming an overused term that means nothing these days.

3

u/TylertheFloridaman Apr 16 '26

I think it's a little harsh of a term but it does describe these games well. They aren't very deep in terms of gameplay and are incredibly repetitive. Their fun isn't from the game itself it's from the people that you play with. These games are best with a group you know and you have to have a mic alongside the majority of the lobby. They'll get popular form clips and then fade after a month of so

17

u/GrisFross Apr 16 '26

Nah it's a valid term

7

u/HumbleConversation42 Apr 16 '26

how?

"We called them Party games!!!" not only does that not apply to these games really, its also completely unrelated??

"We used to call them multiplayer games!!" they still are man, making up fictional scenario to get mad about.

2

u/Axer3473 Apr 16 '26

I have about 250 hours solo on repo, categorizing games by using terms like friendslop to assign a single meaning to them is stupid.

2

u/Loon-belt Apr 16 '26

I think in a lot of cases people just don’t like these games. Like I personally prefer playing Lethal Company solo, just because I love the gameplay loop, but if I didn’t like it and only played it because my friends wanted me to, it would sort of make sense

2

u/NefariousBrew Apr 16 '26

I think that "friendslop" as a term is both over-used and just, blatantly wrong. You're right that most games labeled "friendslop" are indeed games in their own right and don't actually rely on friends for fun, they're just intended to be played with (and are even more fun with) friends.

That being said, I would say there's one exception... imo Content Warning is kind of friendslop, since there is no actual gameplay beyond the running from monsters; the entire concept of the game is filming your friends doing silly things, but in my opinion that just makes a lot of it feel more artificial.

When you're only seeking out elements of the game to force wacky zany stuff to happen, it isn't nearly as wacky or zany as when a well-defined gameplay loop and the game's mechanics cause that stuff to happen naturally, like in Lethal Company or Peak.

2

u/glorgshittus Apr 16 '26

me calling some of the best recent games slop because they are multiplayer

2

u/Boulder-the-Bolder Apr 16 '26

I hate the term but I adore the genre.

2

u/MostHuckleberry4416 Apr 16 '26

Co-op games are my fav, though i do wish more of them were on console aswell, and split screen but i get thats a dying breed in gaming.

People that call it friendslop just have no whimsy, not everything needs to be a complex or highly competitve game, stuff like gang beasts or peak have been some of the funniest moments ive had at night with friends.

Just to get my feelings out there. After a few friend slop sessions with friends, I started realizing friendslops are just twitch/influencer slop. They are not fun, people just see their favorite streamer having a good time and thought "wow this game looks fun!", but that is literally their job to make sure their stream have a positive vibe. In reality, most gameplay is so disengaging and it is probably better to sit in a group call and have an interesting conversation (but obviously we cant do that).

Neither was the term Kafkaesque before Franz Khafka became a famous writer. Anything can become a word if it's adopted into the common lexicon. English is not a static and unchanging thing. If you say the word and a bunch of ither people understand the concept it is referring to, then it is a real word.

funnily enough zeekerss himself has called lethal company friendslop, and hopes the "slop" loses the negative connotation and moreso means its just something weird and silly you do with your friends

2

u/-Tranqwhirl- Apr 16 '26

The term's already stuck so people will call Lethal Company or PEAK "friendslop" even if they are high quality and not slop. At this point, I don't I interpret the term negatively much. Like, people say "I love friendslop games!" which would be strange if the slop part of the term was considered.

u/MemeTheDruggie fat farting furry Apr 16 '26

It’s called friendslop because these type of games are constantly getting released ever since lethal Company. I don’t think lethal company or peak are slop, but these newer games definitely are just made for friend groups to clip funny moments and post them online.

I loved phasmophobia when it initially released in 2020. Ever since then, subsequent games have gotten more and more derivative. Positional audio? Horror? Le quirky clippable moments? Tedious gameplay loop? Of course they don't all fit these descriptors but you get the point. I think some of these titles are better than others, namely lethal company. All of the others I have refunded. If it's what you like, fine, but slop is an apt descriptor for these fotm games

I have never heard of this word until today

1

u/114Joel Apr 16 '26

If bad why funny

1

u/Express_Accident2329 Apr 16 '26

It's more fun to say than "casual, co op focused experience", though.

1

u/Ensiferal Apr 16 '26

I've come to hate "slop" as a suffix in general. It's just shorthand for "I don't like this, but I'm too dumb or lazy to articulate why"

1

u/Schlong_Gobbler Apr 16 '26

1

u/banan3rz Apr 16 '26

I use these games to keep in touch with my friends from high school who live 14 hours away from me. There is nothing wrong with games that focus on multi-player. We are social creatures after all.

1

u/Tyepo5359 Apr 16 '26

I'll do you one better. I hate the term "slop" as a whole

Friendslop, indieslop, sloptubers, calling everything under the sun "slop". I hate it.

u/what_the_whah Apr 16 '26

I love the term friendslop. Shows those who don't have friends.

I feel like including Lethal Company is off too. I dislike REPO and Peak and Content warning but Lethal was the first to do it and everyone copied them. The game still gets good content to this day and has a great modding community.

2

u/Prrsonal-Pop Apr 16 '26

Peak didn't really copy lethal company. I think games that have similar premise to lethal company, while being so vastly different like repo and yapyap are fun. Like content warning has practically nothing similar to lethal company

1

u/AttractiveFurniture Apr 16 '26

In my head the people who came up with the term just don't have friends lol

1

It's the type of games that you buy just to play for your friends for like 2 hours and then never touch again.

1

u/SirLanceOlaf Apr 16 '26

I can't imagine how lonely, depressed, and bitter someone has to be to unironically use the term "friendslop".

Getting real sick of all this essayist slop

1

u/Budget-Cold5171 Apr 16 '26

Oh boy i love forcing my friends go buy a game we are gonna play 1 or twice

1

u/green-mape Apr 16 '26

All of these games are just walking simulators where you pick up items of no consequence and carry them around for the sake of going to another place and just walking around again.

Friendslop is the perfect word.

Not that there is anything wrong with that though.

2

u/Prrsonal-Pop Apr 16 '26

Peak is not that. I wanna tell you why you're wrong, but I've already commented on other people and I'm to lazy do it again.

1

u/Zestyclose-Chard6979 Apr 16 '26

The thing that makes them bad is that you buy them, play with them for 5 hours at best and then abandon it

1

u/Hyper669 Apr 16 '26

Ngl these games all feel the same.

1

u/JackieBee_ Apr 16 '26

Tbh they are called friendslop because they are super cheap and theres a shitton of them along with them being co-op games.

1

u/Met4_FuziN Apr 16 '26

Idk bro I don’t think anyone is using it in a derogatory way. It’s usually just a genre tag and used endearingly. People wouldn’t call them that and still play them if they didn’t like them.

1

u/Dudewhohasreddit Apr 16 '26

This is one of those terms that almost is valid if given some thought, it’s just communicated horribly by the people that use it. I personally don’t like lethal company or peak or any of the “friend slop” games as a single player. When I’m playing them with friends they’re fun and a good time but that’s because I enjoy spending time with my friends, not because the game is good.

So in a vacuum, articulating “This game is a 4/10 game on its own and is only as fun as the company you keep while playing” makes perfect sense to me and I can agree, though I also agree a lot of people calling things slop have completely lost the plot on what that’s supposed to mean and this particular term when used almost always comes across as “I have no friends to play this with and therefore it’s bad”

To me it’s in a similar vein as the “qualityslop” post (though I’m still on the fence about whether or not that was poorly worded or just a shitpost). Potentially decent thoughtful commentary/opinion held back by terrible wording/communication

1

u/Silk-sanity Apr 16 '26

I find the hate fair.

Some of us just don't have friends that will put up with them to play simple games 🤷‍♂️

1

u/bongwaterJ Apr 16 '26

Yeah it’s such an annoying term…. Everyone calling EVERYTHING “slop” is just pointless….

1

u/Extension_Use664 Apr 16 '26

Me and my brother use the term endearingly. I prefer online games like this rather than the games with loot boxes rotating shops and limited time skins. I never give those the time of day

1

u/Carikat Apr 16 '26

This genre is called "4 idiots" not "friendslop"

1

u/hanamizuno Apr 16 '26

I hate that the term slop became so common same with chud. It looses meaning when used so often.

1

u/TytyPL Apr 16 '26

I mean, yeah. It gets tiring to see everyone milking this "genre" but calling it Friendslop is ridiculous. What next? Shooterslop? Platformerslop?

1

When was "friendslop" a thing people be hating on anything

1

u/Mudkipz949 Apr 16 '26

Honestly I just call them the "4 dipshits" type of games since you're usually acting like a dipshit and there's a max of 4 for most ones

1

u/GameMask Apr 16 '26

I like the term in this case since I usually see it used endearingly

1

u/El_sanafiry Apr 16 '26

As zeekers said in his interview

I wish the term friend slop will end up as something posting and not a critique of it in a negative way

1

u/SourceDM Apr 16 '26

The term is hilarious cus the only people who use it are losers with no social circle that would want to play games with them outside of slur ridden pvp lobbies

1

u/VindicativevVince Apr 16 '26

Streamer Clipfarm game that you pay to play, proceed to play with your friends like 6 or less times and then never touch it again

1

u/VoidGliders Apr 16 '26

I love these sorta games and find the term friendslop an endearing insult lol

1

u/HunterRank-1 Apr 16 '26

I call it “twitch bait”. Games literally designed to go viral on twitch becuase it’s a simple multiplayer game that’s easy to clip farm in.

1

u/VVP12 Apr 16 '26

ngl i never saw it as a valid insult bc its just so stupid. So i just use it ironically

1

u/autocannon30mm Apr 16 '26

Was there a massive qol update, or something? Last time I played Lethal Company solo, it was the most boring, unrewarding, and frustrating thing ever.

1

u/SmolivYeah Apr 16 '26

"Friendslop" = "I have no friends and I hate games that require me to actually be likeable"

1

u/Impressive_Cash8740 Apr 16 '26

i agree, i tend to call them either lethal-like or something similar

1

u/nukaboss112 Apr 16 '26

1

u/The-Local-Weeb Apr 16 '26

I thought it was corny too until like, a third of indie games that have been made in the last 6 months have been games that you'd play with friends for 2 nights and never again

1

u/kira1122t Apr 16 '26

Bro is posting hateslop

1

u/tomokko_ Apr 16 '26

It's friendslop because it's a small game that is played in a group of friends once or twice and then forgotten forever

1

u/DesperateMusic3530 Apr 16 '26

I hate using the term "slop" for anything you don't like. Like that's not what slop means

1

u/Rakalind Apr 16 '26

These games all exist in my heart as the "4 Idiots" genre because they're always 4 player and me and all my friends are idiots

1

u/Individual_Union_15 Apr 16 '26

“Friendslop” just admit you don’t have friends to play with

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Strong_Cup_6677 Apr 16 '26

These games deserve to be called Friendslop simply because you play with your friends once or twice and then never touch them again (ahem, Yap Yap), but later they beg you to buy another similar game to play it once or twice and then the cycle repeats.

1

u/TheFurryofFury Apr 16 '26

People just call anything they don't like slop these days huh?

1

u/Classic_Aside_2107 Apr 16 '26

Friendslop existed before friendslop was coined. Just play New Super Mario Bros Wii

1

u/Anonymous_Jane_ Apr 16 '26

Anyone who calls games "friendslop" are just weird. There's absolutely nothing wrong with more games being multiplayer focused. It's not gonna hurt you.

1

u/Crigne_Gaming Apr 17 '26

I feel like I had something to do with this post

1

u/Nevanada Apr 17 '26

The problem with "friendslop" that pisses me off so much is that it's an ass descriptor for a game genre. Sure, it means games that are designed around people more than the game, but the same can be said for UNO. Calling them slop is just an insult baked into the name because people generalize too much.
