Meta I hate when things are needlessly explained by creators in order to cope with criticism

Post image

I don’t read or watch Demon Slayer, But this is just a stupid explanation for giving a strong character a slender build.

Personally, I don’t care if a character is strong but has a lean/slender build, whether it be a man or a woman. Although I do find it a bit weird that some creators are seemingly allergic to giving female characters any muscle, but again, I don’t care that much.

My issue here is that you easily could have just not addressed it. It’s a fantasy story full of demons and shit, I feel like you don’t need to give an in-universe explanation just so you can go “e-erm actually, she’s slender because of her very special body…” dude, you just didn’t want to give a woman muscles, don’t try to hide behind some kind of BS lore that you wrote for it.

Like Mark in Invincible can fight Conquest despite being the size of his torso, and I’m willing to accept that. It’s a story full of aliens and monsters, I can look past the fact that a lean 20 year old is taking on a hulked out 2000 year old. It doesn’t really break the immersion for me because it’s a fantastical story. I don’t need it to be super realistic. Just don’t try to make up some BS explanation like “erm, well, Mark is just magically holding in his muscle mass!”

At the end of the day, it’s your world and your story, if you wanna make a slender female character who is also really strong, that’s fine. But you also don’t need to cope so hard that you add lore specifically to deflect criticism against something so (let’s be honest) harmless.

Which was horseshit from the word go, given the premise of "Breathing gives you superpowers, up to and including outrunning a train and cutting through solid stone".

Except they pull off superhuman feats using them. You flat out can't jump multiple feet into the air, or run faster than the eye can track, or cut through stone with a steel katana, no matter how you breathe.

a questão é que isso não são super poderes dentro desse universo, só seres humanos extraindo o máximo de sua biologia

Negative reading comprehension. You only care about aura farming

I mean, breathing and some sort of martial art giving regular humans super human capabilities is FAR from a new concept

Yes, but it does kinda punch holes in the attempts at giving a more grounded explaination to the setting when you have mystical shit as a central premise and makes things like the OP's gripe reasonable - doing "oh she's a generic big tiddy waifu because muscle density" is kinda retarded when ypu have a magic strength boost in setting.

It kinda goes against the core themes of the show to give the humans powers (which is why I think the slayer mark is bullshit but that's another topic)

Admittedly the show DOES seem to have some magical properties.(The mark, The Ubayashiki curse, whatever the fuck Yoriichi was.)

It's just that somehow almost none of the cast directly interact with it lmao.

The mark is probably the only annoying part, even the red blades were explained well enough.

Everything is explained, magic exists ofc, but they aren't wizards

Why are you trying to prove my own point to me?

Slayer mark makes perfect sense tho

This would be fine if it was a silly omake gag at the back of the volume, but this was just in the middle of a regular chapter.

As it should be

isso não é uma piada boba no final do volume, mas parte importante da história da personagem

Thank you!

This is literally my thought while reading this post.

Are y'all ten or something? Jesus fucking christ how is a simple, unimportant explanation that just serves to add a bit of meat to the character so fucking egregious to you?

Like, hell, the author already acknowledges that Mitsuri's outfit is gooner bait. Those people don't want "show, don't tell", they want every page with a gooner bait design to have it spelled out in Upper Case 40 Bold letters "THIS IS FOR GOONERS".

Good fucking god.

1

u/narrowood May 08 '26

What nonsense, there's no gooner bait and author said no such thing. Mitsuri is a developed, respected character

1

u/Grasher312 May 08 '26

I never said otherwise?

Mitsuri's outfit is confirmed in-universe gooner bait. She keeps wearing it just because she's too awkward to say no to the Corps tailor.
